Jeremy Kerley? (1 Viewer)

So I'm looking at my waiver wire, and I notice Jeremy Kerley sitting there, who is currently WR5 in total fantasy points in my league. Now granted, my league counts kick/punt return yardage, so that's probably boosting his numbers some, but even taking those out the guy is in the top 25 so far. I haven't seen him actually play - is this guy legit? It's hard to say a guy in the top 5 of my league isn't worth at least a roster spot. Any scouting/team info on this guy to let me learn more about him?

Thanks!

I like him. I don't have top 20 expectations but I added him as a rookie before the season last year. I remember he showed pretty well in preseason in his rookie year and has always seemed to perform in his limited opportunities. The Jets don't seem to be able to run the football so I think he has some opportunity.

He was Andy Dalton's top WR at TCU and had a decent rookie season. Jets used him as a wildcat QB a few times last season. He runs good routes, has good hands and is one of the few reliable targets the Jets have. I don't expect him to finish with the TDs he's on pace for but he's not a bad option in ppr leagues. The loss of Revis and the struggles of Greene means the Jets will pass the ball more than they wanted to.

I don't watch much college football, but I discoverd Kerley in 2011 when I was checking out YouTube compilation game clips on Dalton and Kerley was his "go-to" guy in moving the chains. In fact, I thought Kerley made Dalton look to be a little better QB than what he was. Kerley has really good hands and is tough for his size.I am not certain of his value in redrafts, but I think in PPR dynasty leagues he has a good chance to become a very solid flex player and I have rostered him in all my leagues.

Jets WR receptions in the Sanchize era:

[*]2009 57-30-14-2

[*]2010 53-52-41-7-2

[*]2011 51-45-29-18-8

Seems likely Sanchez, even under a different OC, will once again complete around 275-300 passes (bit behind that pace right now), and roughly 150 will to wideouts.

I see it this way:

Holmes - 60 receptions (maybe more)

Hill - 40 catches (assuming the hamstring injury doesn't linger)

Schillens - 15 grabs

That puts us at 115, so I figure Kerley (clear #3 behind Stephen Hill, and 4th option behind a healthy Keller) might get 35.

He is a playmaker, though, so not a bad flex play or bye week filler here and there.

But none of these guys are worth the risk of a 2-25 week.

with keller (sanchez security blanket) out with hamstring, the offense has gotten more varied. Kerley is a good player, sure handed, and as a slot receiver gets good matchups against dime type corners. in a league that also counts return yardage, I don't see a lot of downside.

depends on league size. In a 16 team league he absolutely has value and you have to sometime take those risks.

True, true. But I think my comment applies to a broader population that plays in the typical 12 x 16 size leagues. The other nice thing about Kerley is he is a dynamite punt returner. Can't expect to hit paydirt that way more than a few times a year *(had a TD WK1), but that's why I think he's a good flex/bye week play.

He's only got 8 receptions through 3 games, so that's on pace for low-40's over the course of the season, which is pretty close to your prediction.I think having punt/kick return yardage does give him a much better floor in my league, so I went ahead and dropped Tashard Choice to pick him up. After reading this thread, I'm convinced Choice for Kerley is a pretty solid upgrade.

He's got 8 receptions on 11 targets IIRC. I don't expect any WR catching Mark Sanchez throws to continue that kind of efficiency.

By way of comparison, Holmes is something like 15/33 and Hill is 5/15. It's brutal watching the Jets concept of a passing attack.

Anything to see? Yes. Consistency? No.

I really like his talent and he's making the most of his targets, but he's stuck in a terrible situation. He's worth it a bye week filler but not a guy you want to count on.

Edit: with Keller and Hill banged up he looks to be in line for an uptick in targets.
