Jeremy Maclin (1 Viewer)

He fell to 6.09 in a startup dynasty draft that took place this past weekend.

Why are we waiting on Reid to update us? Isn't Andre Maclin the one people should be camping on to hear the news?

I really don't know Andre Maclin's medical training.
Probably the same as Reid's. I'd guess Andre, though, is closer to Jeremy than Reid.

IIRC, Reid had quite the in-home pharmaceutical business going for a while. Not sure whether he is licensed though.

At this point, we really can't rule anything out.
I don't think cyborg assimilation is in play. Not yet, anyway.
Nicely played...that way if they don't think we're on to them, they'll let their guard down. Carry on as normal.
p sure Google knows that we know what they are up to already.

Has anyone seen Maclin traded in dynasty leagues lately? What's he going for; or are owners sitting tight not wanting to sell at the absolute lowest point.

From Rotoworld.....

The Eagles didn't give an update on Jeremy Maclin's (illness) status Tuesday, but GM Howie Roseman fully expects the receiver back in town when the team returns to NovaCare this weekend.

"We totally anticipate Jeremy being part of our football team," Roseman said. "We anticipate him being back here shortly." Coach Andy Reid hinted that an announcement could still be forthcoming. "Today, right? Well possibly today," said Reid. "We have a few hours. ... We're still waiting for some tests to come in." Aug 16, 5:20 PM

Schefter this morning on ESPN..."It doesn't look career ending"...that sounded good but the rest of his language to me sounded like Maclin has almost no chance to be in there Week1...maybe not 100% for some time.

Bump Vick up? J/K

Same speculation from ProFootballTalk.com

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/17/eagles-think-maclin-will-be-back-soon/

uesday came and went without Jeremy Maclin or the Eagles providing any more clarity on Maclin’s situation, despite a Monday promise from Maclin’s brother that an answer was coming. And that is serving only to cause more speculation regarding Maclin’s condition.

Despite the rampant rumors, the word in the locker room is that Maclin suffers from mononucleosis and/or the lingering effects of it. Maclin disclosed in April that he lost 15 pounds in February with a “mono-like” illness.

G.M. Howie Roseman told 97.5 the Fanatic on Tuesday, via the Philadelphia Inquirer, that “[w]e totally anticipate Jeremy being part of our football team” and that “[w]e anticipate him being back here shortly.”

We continue to hope that’s the case. But we continue to be baffled by the lack of information regarding Maclin’s condition.

He sounded more positive than that to me on Mike and Mike. I think he used the term "will be fine." Sounded like he knew something that he couldn't share, but that could obviously just be my interpretation. And it was early. :)

But when is my question. Short is relative in terms of possibly career like what was being kicked around last week. Just doesn't feel like Maclin will be a go Week 1. He fell to round 7 last I saw, that's pretty good for a guy going round 4/5 in most leagues but you have to be concerned even when he does come back as Steve Smith gets acclimated to the offense.

So many WRs to choose from, I simply pass with al the outs. I like Mario Manningham at about the same spot assuming Maclin were healthy and they both got drafted in the 5th.

Jeremy Maclin's value

As I wrote this morning, still no update on Jeremy Maclin's condition, nor any indication from the Philadelphia Eagles on when we'll have one. Eagles GM Howie Roseman spoke with ESPN's Sal Paolantonio and said this:

"We totally anticipate Jeremy being part of our football team. We anticipate him being back here shortly with us when we get back to NovaCare" after the preseason game in Pittsburgh.

Which is more or less what Roseman said Tuesday, which is more or less the Eagles just saying they have nothing to report.

In the meantime, Sheil Kapadia took up the question of just how important Maclin is to the Eagles. And with all due deference to DeSean Jackson (Sheil makes it clear he's not saying Maclin is more valuable than Jackson), he has Maclin down as the Eagles' best red zone receiving threat, most reliable receiver against the blitz and more reliable than Jackson (per Football Outsiders) at actually catching the ball.

Which means, if Maclin's illness is serious enough to cost him part of the season (as it seems more and more likely, as weeks go on and he doesn't practice, that it will be), the Eagles will suffer for it. All of the free-agent additions they made were intended to augment a roster that was already relying on electrifying offensive stars, and Maclin is unquestionably one of those.

Should they be forced to play without him for any significant period of time, the sky-high expectations that have grown out of the Eagles' free-agent spree will have to be toned down. As good as Jason Avant may be, and as much as a healthy Steve Smith could help, they simply don't have anyone on the roster who can replicate Maclin's value to their team.

Soaring expectations for Kolb-led Cardinals

ESPN's John Clayton envisions Larry Fitzgerald approaching 115 receptions and the Arizona Cardinals improving by about three victories with Kevin Kolb as the team's new quarterback.

"Mike & Mike" has the audio.

Kolb made a very positive impression during Clayton's recent trip to Cardinals training camp at Northern Arizona University. Kolb also impressed when I visited Cardinals camp earlier, more for his demeanor and leadership potential than for the limited snaps we've seen him take for the Cardinals during practices and the team's lone preseason game.

Injuries stand out to me as the biggest threat to Kolb. He's no lightweight at 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, but my first impression at practice was that Kolb would benefit from a full offseason in the Cardinals' strength program. It was just an impression. And no matter how frequently coach Ken Whisenhunt downplays fears over Arizona's offensive tackles, those fears exist for a reason. Levi Brown and Brandon Keith have not demonstrated over time an ability to protect the passer at a high level by NFL standards.

We're all projecting, obviously, and I'm more conservative in making assessments based on practices and games that do not count. There's every reason to think Kolb will easily clear the low bar set for him by Arizona quarterbacks last season.

A stat to consider: Kolb tossed six touchdown passes in four starts last season. The Cardinals had 10 touchdown passes in 16 games.
What does that have to do with Maclin?

Sorry guys - I had two windows open and posted some stuff in this thread that was intended for a different thread - will delete the posts made in error!

Per Jay Glazer via twitter:

Just spoke w Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin, who said he's been cleared to play finally after months of tests for Lymphoma, type of cancer

And Mort:

As expected, good news for Jeremy Maclin. Sources say he's cleared final tests & series of exams . No lymphoma, no cancer, no leukemia!

Had his lymph nodes removed. Not sure if the article says that. Sounds like he had a cancer scare. Cleared to practice sounds promising but in redrafts I think i might pass. If it was cancer, that's a tough thing to just bounce back from mentally not just physically. I'll hang up and listen.

Pretty sure they don't remove lymph nodes unless they're pretty sure you have cancer. If his significant symptoms were from lymphoma there's no way he comes back soon.

Per Dan Graziano (http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/43543/report-maclin-cleared-after-cancer-scare):

Timing is everything, and while changing planes in Charlotte I happened to spot this three-part Twitter report from Fox's Jay Glazer:

Just spoke w Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin, who said he's been cleared to play finally after months of tests for Lymphoma, type of cancer

Maclin told me final test came back today after he got a scare on his bday May 11th. Had lymph nodes removed last week

Told me he's totally fine and was a virus that has left his body and expects to return once he recovers from last week's procedure.

So now we know. And we know that it was a pretty serious scare, and that the smiles Maclin was wearing on the sidelines at Eagles camp while he watched his teammates practice were almost certainly nervous ones, designed to conceal real worry.

Reports out of Philadelphia indicate that the Eagles will release a statement tonight.

Sounds like he dodged a bullet

They removed lymph nodes to check for cancer, not because you have it. He's been cleared.

There are gobs of WRs, simply let someone else assume the risk unless he falls 3-4 rounds minimum. He could easily be in and out of the line up. There is a whole mental aspect to this as well that is being glossed over. You can spin it however you lie but it takes its toll.

So happy to hear he is okay and wish him an easy comeback to football shape and weight.

As far as mental, you can't know if/how he'll be affected, but there is the possibility that the relief sends him into superman mode.

I was thinking the same thing - if he processes this experience a certain way he could take his game to another level. Not saying that is likely but I think the potential upside of the mental aspect at least matches the potential downside.

Good news that this was a viral-infection-related situation and not cancer.

"It was all caused by an inflammatory virus," Maclin said on August 17th, "something that just runs its course through your body or you can treat with medicine. I didn’t need medicine. It’s just something I had to deal with."
He'll still miss more time recovering but it sounds like he'll be back for regular season.

For all the people that speculated HIV or AIDS and all that, hope you feel happy now. This was the biggest overreaction to nothing ever.
