I don't like the look of Green Bay's OLBs, may see alot of down and distance rotation. WTS... I hear Thompason made an impression this spring. Whoever does start, not sure they'll have a great deal of value. You want your OLBs in a 34 to be able to get after the QB, from what I've read on Thompson, he has impressed with his coverage skills.Mitchell has a very good chance to start out of the gate. He missed most of minicamp with a hammy, and OTAs because of NFL rules. He's behind, needs to be a sponge and stay healthy.Do you guys think that Thompson will secure the OLB spot in Green Bay? And How about the chances of Mitchell winning the SS spot in Oakland?
Sure, don't think Thompson ig going to be much of a sack guy.I also had alex hall from cleveland on my radar as he is also listed as a DT on ESPN.................So would hall or thompson be worth playing at DT??
What league? In MFL Thompson will be listed as an OLB. Mitchell would be a better start. Few 3-4 OLB's do that well unless you get a lot for sacks or PD's.If Kampman does leave next year Thompson could start with Matthews.I also had alex hall from cleveland on my radar as he is also listed as a DT on ESPN.................So would hall or thompson be worth playing at DT??
ESPN League.............1 point per tackle, .5 per assist, 6 points for sack and interception, 3 points for pass defensed and forced fumble...............bcr8f said:What league? I've not seen that stated anywhere. I think it's a three way battle for the two positions, with Branch probably the favorite to start and Eugene and Mitchell battling for the other spot. These safety spots have been said to be interchangeable this offseason, though, so it's not going to be a clear cut-and-dried FS/SS split. It'll be interesting to see if one starter gets tasked with more run support duty than the other. I'm not sure either can be considered strong enough in coverage to be slotted as a every-down cover safety in an "interchangeable scheme". If the Raiders are serious about moving Asomugha around, the spots may be even more interchangeable, with the safety away from Asomugha rolling into coverage.I'm hearing that Mitchell is going to be a FS and not a SS.
Projected starters: RCB Nnamdi Asomugha, LCB Chris Johnson, SS Tyvon Branch, FS Hiram Eugene. Backups: CB Stanford Routt, S Mike Mitchell, S Michael Huff, Justin Miller, CB John Bowie, CB Jason Horton, CB Darrick Brown, S Jerome Boyd.
Seems to insinuate that Branch would be the predominantly "strong safety". Far from concrete confirmation, but at least it is a sourced opinion. How does the DC change affect Gibril Wilson's heir apparent, be it Branch or Mitchell? The key battle: Mitchell vs. Eugene. The Raiders want Branch and Mitchell to be their safety tandem of the future, and claim their positions are interchangeable this year from strong to free.
I must be missing something, didn't see anything that insinuated "Branch would be the predominantly strong safety". As Jene stated neither Branch or Mitchell are all that in coverage, but they both have great closing speed and are physical. Didn't Branch play some corner in college? .http://www.ibabuzz.com/raidersblog/2009/07...efensive-backs/

Just seemed as if the author was implying that Mitchell was battling Eugene for the FS position leaving Branch solidly in the SS role.I have no clue if this source is at all credible, but the thought Mitchell and Branch are on the field at the same time has at least been floated.I must be missing something, didn't see anything that insinuated "Branch would be the predominantly strong safety". That interchangeable stuff is nonsense, IMO. They run a FS/SS and have forever, they said that two years ago as well. It is way too early to tell what is happening.1. The Raiders liked Branch last year, but they didn't see much of him either, not on defense anyway.2. MM missed most of minicamp because of the ridiculous NCAA graduating class rule, and a hammy injury.3. The battle lines, to me, are Mitchell/Branch, and Eugene/Huff. And all of them are a toss-up. 4. In order for the starters to be Mitchell/Branch, one of them would have to prove he could handle deep middle. That seems more likely to be Branch, leaving MM at SS.When it comes to drafting these guys, MM has been going pretty early in rookie drafts, and Branch is still a FA in a lot of leagues. It is possible to lock down the SS position, and maybe get top 10 DB production, but I wonder if it is really worth the hassle. Heck, the winner of the job isn't guaranteed to keep it, either.I've not seen that stated anywhere.
