Jericho Cotchery - Time to grab him if you haven't already (1 Viewer)

I was thinking of picking this guy up. He'd be my #4 WR and he'd be a fill in for bye weeks... probably over Jamal Lews and Mike Bell.

Should I go ahead and grab him? He's looking solid at #2 in NY. I don't think he'll make it any longer on the WW.

I'm thinking of grabbing either him or Reggie Williams, but Cotchery will probably see more balls his way this season

Yeah... real hilarious... I thought grade school was back in session these days, better close the window before the teacher sees you're not on the Word Muncher game or whatever it's called. Those were the days... hahaAnyone care to respond intellectually about this guy?

with a Horrible running game...this dude Jericho and Coles are gonna have great Fantasy years as long as Penny stays health :banned:

There's been plenty mentioned in this thread about Cotchery. If he's out there, grab him. Presumably, he'll have some uneven performances like most WRs, but consider what he's done in just his first two games starting in the league - he's only going to get better. Plus, the Jets' uneven running game is forcing Chad to throw the ball a lot.

just trying to have a lil fun. i had this guy rostered on my dynasty squad since the end of minicamps. he seems to be getting a consistent amount of targets from what ive seen. and that catch he had yesterday, amazing awareness. and hes a vaunted 3rd Year WR

Started him over Muhsin Muhammad and Joe Horn yesterday, and it made the difference in the outcome.

Sick play. Kid has talent.

LOL even though that's a sarcastic response, better be careful... be getting a PM from Schtick or whatever his name is, proclaiming you a waste of their bandwith

no doubt Cotchery looks to be a decent fantasy option.

the Jets don't have much of a running game.

Pennington is throwing the ball well.

And Cotchery's frequently targetted.

And though Cotchery deserves credit for holding on to the ball during "that play" (71yd TD) yesterday... it really wasn't "talent", it was a crazy/flukish play.

Cotchery was hit hard by 2 NE defenders and when they all went down, Cotchery landed on top of a NE defender and thus, never really "touched" the ground. He got up and ran it another 60 yards for the TD.

on the contrary, Laverneus Cole's touchdown was a tremendous display of skill and athleticism. Sure, you can site some bad tackling on the part of NE, but Cole's was amazing and deserves tons of credit for his speed and agility on the run after catch.

It just kinda' bothers me. People keep talking about that Cotchery play like there was some amazing talent involved... he held onto the ball (which is pretty darn good) but it was a fluke play.

:goodposting: I agree. I own him and like what I see so far but that play was indeed a fluke play. Great althletic play no doubt, but 99 out of 100 times that play is dead where he landed on the defender. That said, I think hes a fine WR3 that could put up WR2 numbers (FF wise) and wouldnt hate life if I had to start him every week. Lots of targets and is making plays - cant ask for much more than that.

This is where I come in.I was high on him coming out of college and picked him up at the end of last year just on speculation. He was supposedly too slow to be a #1 NFL receiver and granted he is not the fastest receiver but he runs precise routes and coming out of college had the ability to play all receiver postions. There was always speculation that in college Philip Rivers made him look better than he was and helped inflate his numbers but who's to say it wasn't the other way around. That hit he took yesterday and the way he maintained his composure and awareness to continue the play for a TD showed me all I needed to see as to what kind of player he is. With that said I think he will be a very consistant receiver but won't be overly explosive. He will be a Keyshawn Johnson type player.

:goodposting: I guess I shouldn't post my comment asking people to stop using the words "grab" and Cotchery" in the same sentance.

I thought Brad Smith was the sleeper to target here?
You could be right. Brad Smith has been LIGHTS OUT all training camp long. You can't read a Jets training camp report without his name turning up.
I think Brad Smith is a great dynasty prospect, but unlike Cotchery last year he isn't set up for a starting job. The talent is there but I think he's a year or two away from starting. He could maybe take over in 2008 for Coles, who is signed through 2009 but has large base salaries in '08 and '09.
3/9/2005: Signed a five-year, $25 million contract. The deal includes $8 million guaranteed. 2007: $3 million, 2008: $5 million, 2009: $6 million, 2010: Free Agent
