Jerricho Cotchery? - Anyone starting him? (1 Viewer)

Played well last week with a cast, How did he look other wise? Think he could perform well against the Pats?
Tough call. The weather doesn't look too good, but it is NE and it is 5 days away, so much can change. I wouldn't expect the Jets to move the ball that well through the air in snowy/windy conditions, and a slick ball with a cast seems like a bad matchup. However, he had a nice week last week, and its possible ( likely? ) that the Jets are playing from behind and need to throw. Couple that with the Feeley and Boller games, and it could be decent for Cotch.Right now, I have him out of the lineup, for Santonio Holmes. I'll revisit this choice several times this week.

I'm starting him. He caught 6 for 57 in the first meeting; Clemens throws to him a ton and this is likely to be a game where the Jets are behind quickly and have to throw all day. Cotchery has had only two down games in PPR leagues this season so when he's on the field 5+ receptions. He's also caught 6 passes in each of his last three games against New England. He only has one TD this season so I wouldn't bank on him scoring against the Patriots but I could see him catching 5-7 passes for 70+ yards.

Then pending weather is the big issue here I think. I tend to overlook that mostly because many times it's not as big of an issue as it's made out to be. However, there are severe cases (Pitt v. Miami for example) where the weather plays a real factor. This storm could be the real deal, and if the forecast stays as is, or get's worse I'm going to be thinking hard about sitting him. My options, in a 14 team league, are very thin. I'd be looking at Roydell, or Micheal Jenkins...or worse, Urban hoping he can repeat last week. Meh...even with the weather, Cotch sounds like a better option.

Clemens throws to him a ton
Thats false. Maybe last week, but not the weeks before. Crotchery cost me 2 regular season games this year..there is no way in hell I play him in the playoffs.
Didn't he have a game with one catch then followed it up with two?
Yeah I had Coles and I bought into the hype that cotchery was going to be Clemens guy. So I traded for Cotchery and started him in both those games. He only cost me Foster..and I was stacked at RB. But he cost me those 2 games. Live and learn. But I sure dont believe the hype that Clemens is going to him.

Here are the targets Cotchery has had in the games Clemens has started:Week 2: 11Week 9: 11Week 11: 5 Week 12: 7Week 14: 10That's an average of 8.8 targets per game. That's a healthy number of targets. So I stand by my statement that Clemens throws to him a ton.

Townsend did shut Cotchery down in the Pitt game (1 catch). The Dallas game was an absolute mess - no real explanation for that (2 catches). By in large, Clemens does target Cotchery quite a bit as noted in the post above on the targets.

I don't think there's anything misleading about my statement at all. If anything, this is a case of semantics. I don't know how anyone could argue nearly 9 targets per game isn't a healthy amount. If it's not a "ton" that's up to each person's interpretation. The bottom line is Cotchery sees a lot of passes come his way when Clemens is the QB. So again, I stand by my statement.

again another semantics issue. The thing I keep hearing over and over everywhere is how Cotchery is Clemens guy. Look at the targets when Pennington was in there...if anything Cotchery saw more targets with Pennington.the matchup of Cotchery and Clemens is no difference than Coles/Clemens or Cotchery/Pennington or Coles/PenningtonI personally would rather see Pennington back in there.

Cotchery is a pretty good WR in my opinion so whoever the QB is, he's likely going to see plenty of targets. The bottom line is Clemens does throw to him a lot and in a game which figures to see a lot of passing by the Jets that bodes well for Cotchery's potential production. Again, he's caught 6 passes in each of the last three games against New England. I think in a PPR league he's no worse than a solid WR3 this week. I wouldn't expect a TD but 5-7 receptions and 70+ yards is very possible in my opinion.

It's either Cotchery and his cast or Michael Clayton or Javon Walker my WR3 isn't looking two good.

WR 1 - AJ

2 - BERRIAN

yikes... :goodposting:

A couple interesting things from FBGs "needle in a haystack"

Only two WRs have caught more than six receptions against New England this season - Laveranues Coles and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The last to do so was T.J. in week four

The Patriots have had only five games in which only one WR caught a TD pass. Randy Moss has caught at least two TDs in six games this year

If Coles isn't healthy enough to play, and Cotchery draws Samuel in coverage, in a snowstorm... I think I'll take my chances elsewhere.

I think Coles will play FWIW. And yes, I concur with this sentiment, if Cotch draws Samuel that certainly makes him a less attractive option.
