Cowboys might make a run at Detroit receiver Roy Williams

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t ruled out the return of veteran receiver Terry Glenn, but they also are looking at their options to acquire a veteran receiver via a trade.
“I don’t want to dismiss that we could look at a veteran situation, and we could look at a veteran situation before the draft,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “This is that time of year when you do get good value for players, and picks for players get good value. Players are depreciated right now right before the draft; picks are premium. You’ve got to have your eyes open, and that’s what we’re doing.”
Disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson isn’t likely to be the receiver the Cowboys add, even though he has stated a desire to play in Dallas. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis reiterated Tuesday that Cincinnati will not trade Johnson, who would cost the Bengals $8.03 million on the salary cap if he’s traded before June 1.
The Cowboys could make a play for Arizona Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin or Detroit Lions receiver Roy Williams. Williams played at Texas, went to high school at Odessa Permian, and, according to a source, “wants to play in Dallas.”
Lions coach Rod Marinelli has said Detroit has no intentions of trading Williams, who is in the final of year of his rookie contract that will pay him a base salary of $3.724 million in 2008.
The Lions have not talked to Williams about an extension, and, with Calvin Johnson on their roster, it is unlikely the Lions can afford Williams’ asking price for a long-term extension. But Detroit could use the franchise tag on Williams next year, which would give it the flexibility to re-sign him or trade him.
