Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" (1 Viewer)

I have watched a few of these, they are pretty dull IMO and it is nothing like you know Seinfeld, NTTAWWT!

But I fell like the episode with Michael Richards is really good, the 1st one with Larry David was disappointing to me. Was hoping for a lot of insight, nada.

Also, people in my house tonight were saying Jerry looks really old…he looks old compared to Seinfeld but I don't think he looks that bad, he hasn't put on a lot of weight.

Really? I don't find them dull at all. Well, the one with Todd Barry was pretty dull but the others are great. You really get a sense that Jerry just loves standup comedy.

You were expecting a lot of insight from the 2 guys who made huge careers making shows about nothing?

Some of them are good, but the comedians seem pretty nervous a lot of the time.

Enjoyed Aziz Ansari a lot -- he came across well as an actual person. Plus Jerry drives some trucker's 18 wheeler.

S7 E1 Barack Obama. I don't care for Obama the President

but he does seem like a guy you could hang with.

ETA you could watch the Jim Carrey ep just to see his artwork

Huge fan of this show. Seinfeld has gone on my very short list of heroes because he has figured out how to be happy without any prevention, just an embrace of connections with fellow humans and good humor.
Real happy guy:

It’s a typical reality: funny onscreen, but the smile stops when the cameras are off. Jerry Seinfeld is a comedic legend, but in a recent interview he admitted that, despite his worldwide success ad $800 million dollar fortune, he struggles to stay alive. He called it a “tendency toward depression,” claiming, “If it wasn’t for my kids, I’m pretty much done with living. I could kill myself. Now, there’s something else to live for.”
The observational comedian behind the hit series Seinfeld admitted in a recent interview with himself and rapper Wale (via Complex) that he has a terrace at his apartment 19 storeys up, and on more than one occasion, he has considered jumping.

“Yeah, well I have a terrace at my apartment and it’s fantastic. You have to come see it sometime. Every time I go out on that terrace I think, Maybe I’ll jump. [Wale laughs.] Because if I jump, the list of things I don’t have to do is so long, the issues I don’t have to deal with. All I have to do is jump and everything is taken care of! Now, I don’t jump. But I don’t care to know why I want to jump. What’s the difference why? The mind is not that great.”
When pressed on whether he was serious, Seinfeld insists that he is.

“I am being serious… Every time… I look over it and I think, I could do it. I could do it. I’m on the 19th floor. [Laughs.] All I got to do is jump…. But there’s nothing there. There’s nothing there to explore, is my point. I’m not going to a shrink to find out why I want to jump off the terrace. That’s a waste of another hour!”
To this, Wale, the man behind some Seinfeld-inspired rap albums simply said Jerry was “scaring us.”

The full context to this particular section of the interview was that Wale is very reactionary to his critics while Jerry Seinfeld isn’t. He doesn’t care what you think of him because, as the title of the interview indicates, “Nothing really matters.”

Later on in the interview, Seinfeld followed the terrace-jumping talk with thoughts on the length of life.

“They say life is too short. It’s way too long! And we’re filling it in with a lot of fake stuff…. There’s a lot of stuff. Maybe I’ll jump, maybe I won’t. We have to come up with things to fill in the time. There are old people sitting on cruise ships, doing crossword puzzles, just trying to finish it up. [
Wale laughs
.] They didn’t want all that time! But it’s there. That’s why there are a lot of no-talent celebrities, just to fill in the air. We’ve got too much time, too much space. Too many gigabytes.”

Season 8 started on June 16th. New episode every Thursday.

First two episodes were good even though they featured comedians I don't really enjoy. Episode One guest is Jim Gaffigan, Episode Two guest is Margaret Cho.

new season coming to Netflix July 6th!
I very recently got into this.  Great show . My wife and I dig it and they are so short it's easy to knock out several at a time

What's the deal with him getting sued?  Dude is saying he stole the idea for this show?  Not sure I believe him.

I've watched the episode with Jerry & Will Ferrell probably 5 times, at least. they have good banter together. the bit about the cat and the phone killed me.

New season is on Netflix. Starts out strong with Eddie Murphy, Seth Rogen, Gervais and Matthew Broderick. Then it starts to falter and limps to the end. Imo it is all down hill after the Martin Short episode.

Big internet mystery regarding which comedian Jerry disses in the Bridget Everett episode.

Finished the latest season and then removed it from my queue.  Boring.  I found the cars more interesting than the conversations.

I watched the one with Eddie Murphy and I can't get into this show. It was kinda boring and Seinfeld comes across as pretty pompous.

(And I like both their stand up comedy)

The shows are hit and miss depending on the guest. Ricky Gervais, Martin Short, and Jamie Foxx were good. Melissa Villasenor was pointless. She spent the whole episode giggling at Jerry's jokes.

I think this was the low point of the series so far.  It's such a shame because I like Jerry, I think he's a good entertainer and I've really enjoyed the series but, wow, this season just felt laborious to watch with the exception of Eddie Murphy, that episode was fun to watch.  The rest were either mediocre (Jamie Foxx, Martin Short, Matthew Broderick, Barry Marder), forgettable (Seth Rogan, Mario Joyner, Melissa Villasenor, Sebastian Maniscalco) or simply unwatchable (both Ricky Gervais episodes were awful and the Bridget Everett episode simply fell apart after his meltdown.)  Watching the last episode, with his first guest and the first car he used in the first episode made me wonder if he was putting a bookend on it and perhaps he's tired of doing this and hanging up his keys?  It had that vibe to me anyway.

I'm guessing that's the last we'll see of the series, what with the re-run guests, the "two funniest women who live near me" eps and ending the season with the pal, Barry Marder, who gave him the idea for the show.

I LOVED this series, i watch em on a loop to begin each Netflix movie nite, coupla times a wk. I'm very glad he had Mario Joyner on because he & Seinfeld & Colin Quinn have been sitting in booths at the Cellar or wherever one of em is working for decades talking the funny. And the funny will always be the best topic. But stick a fork in this'n.

I'd be shocked if he was "tired" of doing this. How much work do you think this actually is for Seinfeld himself? His people choose the locations, get all the permits and clearances, do all the filming setup and editing. He probably spends max of a few days per episode filming the conversation/intro and looks at the edit, gives feedback, and signs off on the final version. And Netflix gives him a big fat check.

It's too bad this couldn't have started 20 years or so ago so he could have got some of the legendary folks they often end up talking about on. To see this with Don Rickles, or Rodney Dangerfield. He should figure out some way to have Mel Brooks and/or Carl Reiner, people like that on while they're still around. Why no Steve Martin yet?

You’re in luck - he did one with Rickles

he supposedly does all the editing, at least.  also pretty sure he jerks off to coffee being poured/made

you aint looking at the backlog, my friend, or you're being sarcastic & i dont get it. there's one w Carl Reiner where he invites Jerry over to Brooks's house - he was then bringing deli over to Mel's house since his wife died and they'd watch Jeopardy & a movie together - for an evening

he shonuff seemed to be playing out a contract this season. dunno what his contract is, but Seinfeld dont seem the type to re-up if he thinks it's played

Now that I think about it, I think he did one with Reiner too

He did, and Mel Brooks was in the same episode.

I'm toward the end of the Netflix First Cup "collection" (the Michael Richards episode is up next), so I guess I haven't got to those yet. Seems like the "collections" aren't in the same order as the original release dates. Looking forward to it.

thanks - great article, I wasn't watching that closely but didn't pick up on the lip reading aspect - but this fits perfectly.  She was in a couple of the "Monsters" shows too (which I would recommend ...not all of them are great, but several of them knock it out of the park).

I love Bobcat (Shakes) and I like Jerry.  I love his show and I liked his stand up - but always thought it was mid-level.  Maybe because it was fairly innocent stuff and not all that insightful ...it was mostly light stuff (socks clinging to the sides of the washer/dryer ...something, something).

I think Jerry heard Bobcat talk about him dating an underage girl and decided he hated his guts.
