Jets Firing Robert Saleh? (1 Viewer)

Ulbrich seems like a badass, and immediately demotes Hackett.

I might be a fool, wouldn't be the first or last time, but I'm starting to think this might actually work.

I'm not sure I'm with you on this - assuming it is still Hackett's "system" (easy to decipher, minimal motion, etc.). Also, I would venture a guess that Rogers changes the play at the line of scrimmage quite often. In other words, a "new dish" produced from the same cookbook using the same ingredients won't necessarily taste better than the last dish. Maybe it will look like the 2023 Jets (different, kinda... but same result on the scoreboard).

The O-line play has been pretty shaky as well.
No idea if it works.

But he did what every spectator and every player on his defense has been hoping for for the last 22 games, and Saleh didn't do (for whatever reason).

Maybe it's not better, but holy hell, it couldn't continue. I don't know if the next step is the right one, but he at least eliminated the clearly wrong one.

That shouldn't be a monumental feat, but this is the Jets. It's been a very long time since somebody said "we're just going to get rid of the obvious incompetence and go from there".

This. They hired Hackett to maximize their chances of wooing Rodgers to Florham Park. He's incompetent and terrible and it (in part. Not totally. Saleh was bad) cost Robert Saleh his job. Ulbrich (and probably Douglas) aren't willing to bet their jobs on him turning the ship around. There's enough evidence to support the idea that he simply doesn't know what he's doing. His career was built on the prime performance of Rodgers and now every single person with a football brain knows it.

He's Adam Gase (who was only a candidate for ANYTHING because of the 2013 Manning led Broncos) with a LITTLE more social awareness and an NFL father (who was also a terrible Jets OC. No idea why being the son of someone terrible gets your foot in the door, but it is what it is.....)

Yes, I think we can all agree that Hackett's existence in NYJ (maybe anywhere in the NFL at this point) is wholly reliant on Rogers being there. If Rogers decides to retire after the season, I have little doubt that Hackett would be shown the door 5 minutes afterwards. Sadly, if Roger does come back for 2025, and I think he will unless they pull off a Super Bowl miracle, Hackett will probably be there as well.

It is weird, Rogers is in a similar boat... being 100% tied to Hackett's offense. I have heard it straight from Rogers' mouth a few times when questioned about Hackett's scheme... he gets immediately defensive, "Well, I did win 2 MVPs in this system, so... " I believe he didn't see eye-to-eye with his previous HC in GBP over the complexity, motion, etc.

Todd Downing officially play caller now.

:suds:(Admittedly likely premature, however almost anything has to be better than Hackett).

I got rid of my Rodgers share (QBBC Team), but I have some Breece, Wilson and Conklin who could sure use a kick in the pants. Here's to that!
Unfortunately, still working with the same system. It'll take weeks and weeks to install a new offense and that ain't happening. Best case scenario is that Downing can incorporate some motion, bunch set, and the like to put some lipstick on this turd of an offense.
Yeah but a lot of teams entire playbooks have a lot of the same plays.
I'm sure the Jets have common things in Hackett's.

It's which is commonly called that could make it seem like Downings.

The Ravens did it in 2018. Flacco got hurt in November and they played a rookie QB who couldn't be more different than Joe. Now, maybe Baltimore had spent weeks and weeks of practice time for this eventuality. They did run a few plays during games when Lamar Jackson was the QB before Flacco got hurt, but they basically rewrote the script on the fly and made the playoffs.

The Jets don't have to make that drastic a change - same QB and players, after all.
