Jets ink D'Brickashaw

BY RICH CIMINI

DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

The Brick is in the house.

Continuing their streak of signing their top picks before the start of training camp, the Jets agreed in principle tonight on a blockbuster contract with left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, the Daily News has learned.

Ferguson, the fourth overall pick in the draft, is expected to be at Hofstra today, when the team reports to its first training camp under new coach Eric Mangini.

Terms of Ferguson’s contract weren't immediately available, but he likely received a five- or six-year deal that includes at least $17 million in guaranteed money.

Ferguson, who grew up in Freeport, L.I., is penciled in to start immediately at left tackle.

Reports are that Mangold and Clemens are also signed. Ferguson and Mangold signings have been reported by NY beat writers, the Clemens signing is being reported by a Jets message board owner, who has a fairly reliable history.

The Jets have a rather amazing string of no hold outs, and it appears they have at least kept one positive steak alive. TC opens at 2pm Friday, and I'll be there.

Yeah but you guys get to watch the first full blown open QB competition since Richard Todd v. Matt Robinson. Some past fun:

Kenny O'Brien v. Browning Nagle - No way Browning wasn't going to win that job - too bad he was shall we say a "slow learner"

Boomer v. Browning - Again - no way Boomer wasn't the man

Neil O'D v. Foley v. Vinny v. Chad- while competitions developed during the year - it was pretty clear who the starter was throughout camp.

Should be a fun summer to watch - I just think Chad's arm is shot - interested to see how he looks and handles the scrutiny (not fond of the media right now). Ramsey has the arm but thats about it. Bollinger even getting a fair shake. And the dark horse Clemmens may be the best of the bunch but do you put a rook out there?

I would start Chad/Ramsey as a sacraficial lamb the first few games then work Clemens in assuming it will be a non playoff year.

Love the Herm bashing from the local writers - crazy how they change at the drop of a hat but I agree with them 100% - it will be anice to see a real coach and not Tony Robbins.

Whoa, good thing I double-checked.... tomorrow is a two-a-day! Practice at 8:45 and 5:30. I'll definitely go to the morning session.... that 5:30 could get ridiculously crowded.

Widely reported now, all ten draft picked either signed or agreed to in principle. I really hope Clemens is there, I except he will be. I'll post what I see in the afternoon here.

Thanks for the heads up - I may be part of that crowd at 5:30!!!!!

Here's hoping that Brick has as successfull of a season as LeCharles Bentley.

Boooh....I don't think the Bills or Jets are good enough to have to Wish Ill will on eachother's teams.

Hey, I'm looking for a decent year where the Jets build an OL, find a starting QB, Jell as a team and position themselves for a Top RB in the draft.

Like Saban said last year - W/L record isn't that important right now.
