Jets QB situation (1 Viewer)

Sanchez terrible, Greene terrible, defense terrible. What changes do the Jets need to make?
sanchez has nobody to even throw to and no run game. Since Tebow doesnt really know how to utilize wr i guess you may as well try but the results will be the same.

He has had no chance the past two years. No run game to speak of, a defense that's great in talk only, Holmes as your best wr, no offensive gameplan, bring in Tebow... nobody makes that work. We really have no idea how good or bad Sanchez is/can be.

This team has gotten progressively worse. Rex is gonna start feeling it. He's in trouble.

Not gonna happen, at least not yet.

While the season is starting to look very unsettling, they're still 2-2 and tied for the division lead.

They have a big MNF game at home against the Texans - I suspect that Tebow will be used a bit more liberally in that game, but not in the form of pulling Sanchez.

If the Jets fall flat again under the lights though, then all bets are off IMO.

I do think they need to make a move to Powell though. He probably isn't the answer either to take pressure off Sanchez, but we know Greene isn't.

ETA: just posted after ponchsox did.

The O-line actually pass blocked pretty well today from what I saw (I was at the game in the corporate box, so I had to do some schmoozing, so I didn't pay attention like I usually do). Right now, the skill players are horrible, but that doesn't excuse all of Mark's mental mistakes. He has regressed BADLY in the past 2 years from a decision making stand point (and its not like that was his strong suit to begin with). I've never seen someone throw so many INT's to D-linemen. Its unreal. The fumble towards the end of the first half was inexcusable as well.

I used to think it was schottenheimer's fault. I don't think Sparano is much better, but at some point, Sanchez has to show some signs. I don't think its going to come and its pretty freaking depressing.

Would Mark be better with a real #1 WR (Holmes only has a #1 attitude), a healthy TE and RB's that don't suck? Probably. But at this point, if you're blowing up the entire offense, the QB has to go as well. Time to start over. He hasn't earned the right to be a building block when everyone else is getting the axe.

And oh, yeah the defense sucks as well despite spending 3 high draft picks on DL in the past 2 years and having 2 of the stoutest fat guys in the league (Devito and Pouha) in the middle. Scott and Pace are old and awful. (Genius move by tannenbaum to guarantee both their contracts during the Asomougha pursuit last year)

And starting Tebow will get them nothing, other than 2 years of nonsense while the rebuilding effort is delayed.

What about the running game? Stick with Greene or give Powell a chance? (Or Grimes?)
I know nothing about Grimes. Greene has no ability. He's a #3 RB at best. It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't make an opening day roster next season. Slow, doesn't move the pile, injury prone, ZERO wiggle. Its painful. He is below average at every single skill an NFL running back should have. I don't think Powell is the answer either. He doesn't have starter ability in my eyes. In an ideal world, the Jets would spend a big asset (either a high draft pick or a lot of FA dollars) on a RB this off-season. It won't fix the team but it will at least make it tolerable to watch them. The problem is you also need a WR, an OLB, a guard, a CB (since Kyle wilson is a bust and Revis will probably walk after next season) and oh yeah....a QUARTERBACK.I don't know how high his stock is right now, but I'd cut off my pinkie to get Marcus Lattimore on this team in April. Kid is a beast.

Jets coach Rex Ryan reiterated his support of Mark Sanchez at Monday's press conference.

It's Ryan's second vote of confidence in 24 hours. "He's definitely our guy," Ryan insisted. "I know this is killing him. He's going to want to respond." Ryan's show of faith is admirable, but he could hardly be faulted if he decided to make a change. Sanchez has completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes in three straight games, and posted a 4:2 turnover to touchdown ratio since his fluky Week 1 performance. He's completed just 49.2 percent of his passes, which is only 2.7 percent more accurate than Tim Tebow was for the Broncos in 2011. With the Texans' No. 2 pass defense coming to town in Week 5, Sanchez is going to be hard pressed to get back on track.

I think the move is to sign Braylon Edwards, Plaxico Burress and Terrell owens this week. They might not be any good and those guys might not have anything left but it sure would get people talking.

Sanchez sure seems a lot like Vinny Testaverde. I think he is maybe a decent QB but we might not know it for 10 more years. Tebow might be a better fit right now due to all the issues but the problems the Jets are having are far deeper than Sanchez.

Even though Rex is saying Sanchez is his guy they just don't have the weapons on offense nor the dominant defense they had a couple years ago to succeed. Sanchez was ok at being a game manager but he cannot lead this offense to any consistent scoring. Perhaps Tebow is the only guy that can create some offense with nothing. Even last year during Tebow mania in Denver he had Decker & Thomas. What does he have now? Kerley and Hill?

Hill is also out with injury. Hard to blame Sanchez for lack of receivers.

They need different players and coaches.
I agree. Fire everybody and start from scratch.
Time for Jets fans to watch more college ball.I had that WVU / Baylor game on Saturday, fell asleep for about 7 minutes and I missed more TD's than Sanchez has in 3 weeks.1) Fire Tannenbaum2) Draft QBIf it were me, I would also get what I can get for Revis and use the money elsewhere at this point. If the new GM wants his own HC then so be it, Wouldn't be that smart to draft a young QB and have Sparano/Rex/Cavanaugh groom him anyway.IMO Rex is a real good coach but, a total failure at talent evaluation -thinks he can coach up anyone. Needs more than tanny to help him there.

No way is it Tebow time. If you bench Sanchez now when you're 2-2' you are saying the Mark Sanchez era in NY is over. This would be a complete panic move and one I don't see Ryan making right now. The Jets defense must play better and they have to run the ball better to have any chance at winning games. SF is tough to run against and they're receiving corps is the pits right now, you can't put this all on Sanchez. He's the Jets best QB and gives them easily the best chance at winning football games in the future.

Might as well have signed Randy Moss and brought back Favre too.

They have ZERO weapons on offense so maybe Tebow is their only hope.
Now I'm picturing Ryan on his knees saying "Help Me Timothy Tebow - you're my only hope."Of course that might be more my issue than yours. Carry on. This is not the post you're looking for. *waves hand*

Ummm. That was meant to be a joke.

IMHO, the Jets need to move to Tim Tebow. Last year Mark Sanchez, when he wasn't wiping little itty bits of Scotty McKnight off his mouth, threw 18 picks and coughed up 8 fumbles. Right now, at the quarter mark of this season, he has 4 picks and a lost fumble. Projected over a season, that's 16 and 4. Starting in Week 4 last year, Tebow threw 5 picks til the end of the season, with 3 coming in Week 15 to the Bills in a blowout. Tebow will - Provide better ball security ( when you have an aging defense and not too many weapons on offense, you have to keep games close to win them)- Be the Jets best running threat, bar none. - Give the Jets a chance to mix in some single wing, which allows Keller and Cumberland to both play and account for the lack of depth at WR. - Make the most usage of Stephen Hill's size and catch radius- Along with John Conner, provide a pair of heavy hitters to beat down on any defense over the course of a game- Force teams out of their prevent/dime packages and open up more opportunity for mismatches all over the field- Turn any road game into a quasi home gameIs Tebow the better overall QB? No. But can he limit the turnover differential better and be the Jets best rushing weapon? Yes. Tebow is a beef eater at the end of games because teams shift into their prevent packages and Tebow has time to throw and has time to let coverages reveal themselves ( because he can't read most of them) and accommodate some issues with his arm/delivery. This is where you can start creating mismatches when teams shuffle out of their prevent and move to their base packages at the end of games. Joe McKnight can be a speed contrast ( if you can't throw a good pitch, throw a pitch that offers a dramatic contrast to screw up the batter, McKnight to Tebow is a longer distance than McKnight to Greene) to Tebow/Conner and if you sign Terrell Owens, you get a different type of weapon ( he's not the same player, he's lost a step, but he can go up and get the ball, he is an elite blocker for a WR and he absolutely can fight for yardage after the catch) Cromartie isn't wrong, he is one of their better receivers, a mix of Hill, Owens and Cro, in spots, would be a tough trio to cover. The Jets need to go to the Pat Riley Knicks blueprint. Limit turnovers, keep the game close, limit the total number of possessions the other team has, inflict as much violence as possible at all times. With some semblance of a rushing attack, the Jets can try to control the clock and keep their aging/porous defense rested and best used in spots. Crazy as it is, some people in life smoke 10 packs a day and never get lung cancer. There are just some things you can't explain. Tebow is one of them. I've learned to just stop trying to bet against this guy. Teams just seem to appreciably play harder for him than other QBs and the variance he gives you on road games with the crowds, I think that goes understated. This is like when Jeremy Lin hit that ice cold three pointer in Toronto against the Raptors. The home crowd got on their feet and cheered louder for him than they ever did for their team. Hell even the Raptors announcers sounded a bit excited. I think what goes also understated is that late game, it's not just about scheme that Tebow starts to do better, he's also spent the whole game softening up the defense. You don't tackle Tim Tebow, you become a speedbump long enough for someone else to finish him off. The kid takes a lot of punishment when he runs, but he dishes out a good amount of violence himself. The best chance the Jets have this year is to get in the mud. Fight dirty, bloody, ugly, close games where people are punching each other in the mouth. NFL teams ( here's looking at you Baltimore), need to stop apeing the NE Patriots and be the teams that they are, not the teams that they think will look the best in a highlight reel. Tebow is a lousy passer. But the other upside he gives you is still a better chance to win compared to Sanchez. What this team needs is for Rex Ryan to get an "out" They need a minor Sanchez injury to shelve him for the rest of the year without compromising Ryan's loyalty. ( Say what you want about the loudmouth, he stands by his people, right or wrong)
:goodposting: I think Rex needs a reason to put Tebow in, without having to lose his loyalty to Sanchez. An injury, maybe a broken finger on his throwing hand that'll keep him out a few weeks to let Tebow takes the reigns. If the Jets go, say, 3-0 while Sanchez is out, I think Rex can keep Tebow in because they are winning and still save face by claiming Sanchez is his guy.

From a job security standpoint, you don't make the switch now. You let Sanchez stink up the joint vs Houston, then switch to tebow as the schedule softens up and uou olay indy, and blame Sanchez when the team starts winning. That might buy Ryan more time and then he will double cross tebow in the offseason like elway did.

Ryan is probably thinking the same thing. Throw Sanchize to the wolves this week, come out tebowing the following week and proclaim that Tebow is your man and you are building around him. Of course, it will set the franchise back about 3-5 years when they could just suck with the sanchize, securing a top pick for a real franchise QB. Instead the Tebow will win them a game or 2 with his stupid game, thus costing them a top QB.

Is Rex wearing a golden bikini while doing this, while chained to his twin brother? If so, yeah you have issues... :P Obi-Wan Tebowi. Crazy, this is.Mmmm

Tebow and his fans are going to be in for a rude awakening. The 20 extra pounds he put on in the offseaon appears to have slowed him down and without his feet the Tebow is out of a job. The Texans will be licking their chops if the Tebow gets the call this week.

I guess this would be enough to bring FavreCo back to do a few victory laps in the Tebow thread, could potentially be entertaining.

My understanding is he is over on Rotoworld forums sharing his wisdom.

They need to put both Sanchez and Tebow on the bench and give Greg McElroy a shot. Try Grimes, Powell or McKnight at RB, then go out and try to trade mid-round draft picks for some halfway decent receivers. And that's just to start. Then they need to find a way to get the defense to play up to it's ability. And next year, demote Rex to DC and find a real coach.
