Jets, FB Richardson agree to terms

Posted: Thursday March 6, 2008 12:32AM; Updated: Thursday March 6, 2008 12:33AM

By Bucky Brooks, SI.com

Tony Richardson has confirmed to SI.com that he has agreed to terms with the New York Jets. The financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is for one year.

Richardson, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is latest addition to a revamped Jets' offense; and he will be counted on to pave the way for Thomas Jones in the running game.

Originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowboys, Richardson spent the first 11 seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs before suiting up for the Minnesota Vikings the past two seasons.
Excellent signing. Expect a a competent run game from the jets until further notice.

Here's hoping Kellen Clemens or Chad plays well enough to keep 8-9 out of the box.
Thomas Jones did pretty well last yr with NO QB and a much worse offensive line and NO FB. I don't see how his numbers can be worse unless we draft McFadden.

What about an impact on ADP? Obviously it was mostly his talent that got him his numbers, but I'd be interested to to see if Richardson's loss might hurt him at all. I didn't watch enough Vikings games to have an opinion, but there must've been a reason that Ricahrdson made the Pro Bowl...

Boy, if the Jets pass on an early RB in the draft, this news bodes very well for Thomas Jones. Despite the lack of TDs, the guy had over 20 touches a game. He'll be pure value this year.

Unless they take McFadden.

further to my post a few days ago on T Jones, whoever is the Jets starting RB could seriously surprise with all of the positive changes they are making...

T Jones is a heavy sleeper if the Jets dont draft a RB in rounds 1-3.

Great player and awesome locker room leader. :sadbanana:

He is getting up there in age, but should still have another year or two left in him.

That is my only concern - how much does he have left. Obviously he's done yeoman's work for Holmes, LJ and Peterson, but I just hope the Jets didn't get him too late. If we can get a good year or two out of him, it will be a big lift. As noted by reg, if nothing else, he'll definitely be a welcome presence in the locker room.

I think TJones will be a great sleeper. He quietly had 1200 total yards on 300 total touches.... and that was on a pretty bad team. Now with all the signings, he could do very well this year. Clemens has a nice arm to throw to a healthier Coles/Cotch.

But do they take McFadden even with his off field problems? The risk is there, and T Jones has IMO another 2 years of quality production in him. He has not seen the high wear & tear other RB's his age have seen since his stint in Arz & TB saw so little action. He averaged 125 carries a season during his first 4 years. He will hit the 30 years old WALL this Pre-Season. That is a concern.

Richardson is a quality FB and will help the whole offense, not just the running game.

McFadden going to NYJ could still see TJ as the primary RB for the first part of the season anyway..... atleast until Week 7 or so....

Maybe T Jones' age is the scary part of why Jet Front Office is thinking McFadden.... just a thought..

He's been in NY for 1 season. I don't think the Jet's feelings about his age is any different than it was a year ago when they signed him.

also I think they have what could potentially be a great feature rb in Leon Washington. My hope is that the CS want to groom LW behind Jones for a year or 2 before giving him a shot. maybe wishfull thinking though

Why not just take Mcfadden? You'd be lining up a pretty tremendous running game.
there is no doubt in my mind they are going RB in round 1 or 2... and I hope its McFadden. They are doing this the right way. After a terrible season; it feels good to be a Jet fan.

Because as soon as McFadden ran a sub 4.3 at the combine, Al Davis locked on to him. The Raiders will have the next greatest triplets in Russell, McFadden, and Javon Walker for the forseeable future. Book it.

ummm... it is Al Davis; so u never know. I think the resigning of Fargas to something 4M a yr meant they were going a different direction.. plus they haven't released Jordan yet. These 3 seem to be the top 3 Players

Chris Long

Vernon Gholston

Jake Long

Ryan & DMac are wild card to do at anytime in the top 10
