Jets trade for Panthers Jeff Otah (1 Viewer)

The Panthers have been busy today with trades... link

The Jets have traded for offensive tackle Jeff Otah, the team announced today.

They sent the Carolina Panthers an undisclosed conditional draft pick for Otah, a 2008 first-round draft pick by the Panthers.

The trade is a bold move for the Jets, who had affirmed their faith in Wayne Hunter and had not invested in the tackle position this offseason. But Otah's health is a question mark. He has ended up on injured reserve each of the past two seasons with knee injuries, playing only a total of four games in 2010 and 2011.

Hunter is due a guaranteed base $2.45 million salary this year.

Wayne Hunter was definitely among the Jets player most bashed by fans and radio hosts in NY last season.

Jets traded conditional 7th-round pick to Panthers for Jeff Otah. Panthers traded conditional 7th-round pick to Oakland for Louis Murphy
I think that is a nice move by Carolina.

Nice upgrade but they should also trade for either Stewart or Williams too.
that would be hard to get equal value.I am sure the Panthers view both way higher than the Jets will give up.
I am so tired of these owners and GM's putting their perceived needs ahead of my fantasy team's needs.
:lmao:

I think it's a nice move for the Jets and Panthers. Very low risk for Otah, who would be a steal IF he can stay on the field. That of course is the big ??involved in this whole deal. Trading for Murphy was nice for the Panthers, and they gave up almost nothing for him. The Raiders? Eh, Murphy had his moments, but they practically gave him away...

This is a good move for the Jets if Otah can stay healthy and stop being so lazy. As a Panthers homer, I'm happy with the move. He was lazy when he wasn't too hurt to practice, and he was getting outperformed by Byron Bell on the line anyway. This trade shows that Carolina is confiendent with Bell and the other linemen on the team.

I think the trade makes sense for both teams. Jets get a player who could be worth much more than the cost, while Carolina makes a statement with the move. If you're not willing to work, there isn't a place for you on the team.

Apparently there are some other teams who are still interested in taking a shot on Otah.

I hope the Panthers get something for him, but I think it's likely he'll just be cut at this point.

Panthers announce they have cut Jeff Otah.
Otah is only 26 years old, 1st round pick in 2008. 2010 he was coming off "minor" surgery, Panthers shut him down in November. In 2011-IR after 6 games...Knees must be shot somehow or perhaps a team needs to try and redevelop him from scratch. Price is almost nothing right now.

character issues, in that he's lazy and has some money in the bank

Good riddance.

Maybe he can get his career back on track somewhere else, but he is going to need to show that he can stay healthy and put in a little work and effort.
