This news seems to have been lost in all the Super Bowl coverage, I did a search and didnt see anything posted on it.

Matt Birk won Walter Payton Man of the Year.OPOY - Brees. Because he was the best player from the offensive side of the ball for the season. He won it rightfully so.Rogers won MVP because it's a knee jerk award given out to the QB of the best team of the reg season. Absolutely no thought went into it at all. If fact, I heard about 18 of the writers let monkeys vote for them. Take that for what you will.IMO MVP award should be given out prior to the Super Bowl. Keep the Supe MVP and give that out for the SB game's performance, but the MVP should be given out for reg season plus playoff games. Rogers (nor Brees) would have won. Brady would have taken it home this year if that had been the case and I think that would be have been justified.

/ Why exactly would Brady have gotten it? Based off his beating up on a mediocre Denver team and then laying an egg against the Ravens? Your version is nothing more than a knee jerk award given to whichever QB gets to the Super Bowl.

Awesome, especially on the defensive side with 3 guys nominated in the Def.POY category. Good to see Aldon Smith get in there as well. He's going to be a force for a number of years. The future's certainly bright for the 49ers on the defensive side. Now if we can get the offense going a 6th superbowl ring in the near future is definitely not out of the question. I'm ok if they bring Alex Smith back but please get him some receivers who can play as Crabtree hasn't developed into the WR they took with the 10th pick 3 years ago.
