Jimmy Graham -- 2011 Hype Train (1 Viewer)

He has actually been the main option on a couple of redzone looks, but Green bay had him blanketed so Brees had to eat it.I am disappointed in this game, but I do like that it seemed like they were really looking to get him the ball in the redzone. He wasn't targeted as much because the Saints were so worried about the GB pass rush. I still think he will be a solid starter at TE .
yeah, the 4th down play from around the GB 15 was definitely designed to go to him but the safety didn't bite on the play action and jumped his route.

Without that late TD, Graham could have been a trade target for those without him, but now the final tally looks like a top TE for Graham. GB had bracket coverage on Graham, but Brees DID look for him a lot. The pass rush and coverage didn't allow for a huge game from Graham. Better things to come and I didn't see anything that lowered my top-3 TE numbers I see coming from Graham in 2011.
Brees passed for over 400 yards and 3 TDs. If Graham were completely shut out you could expect absolutely nothing from him the rest of the way. Look, there are alot of targets in NO and so Graham is going to suffer the same inconsistency all NO skill position players, aside from Brees and in the past COlston do, inconsistent production. And Sproles is actually more dynamic as a receiver than Bush was, so there is no advantage there. He didn't look special to me at all yesterday. And I didn't see any sort of double coverage on him. I am sorry but I think a lot of you are going to be disappointed. It is helpful that Moore and now Colston are hurt, but Henderson and Meachem are more than adequate fill-ins and get theirs.

My view is this. Graham showed again he has great hands and athletic ability . If NO can put up them stats against the GB secondary I think graham will have a very good season and future with the saints. Full disclosure he's on my dynasty roster and I will have a hard time choosing between him n Owen for my byes... Started finley last night and we all know how that turned out

laugh at the first part...yeah nobody ever did very little the first game of the year and then went on to a nice season....hopefully I have a bunch of unspecial players this year.....

I think almost every fantasy owner would take the production they got from Graham last night every week at the TE position and not be "disappointed"......he is obviously going to be a big part of this prolific passing game...

love these assessments after one game and against one of the best defenses in the league where a guy still produces.....yet the future looks bleak....what did he have to do, come out of the gate with 10/140/2...?

I think this is a draw for Jimmy Graham. I don't think any more or less of him. If he has a game like this next week maybe, but I expect him to be a red zone beast with a Mark Chmura floor.

Nothing to see here. 49 passes won't happen every week. They appear pretty set on using Ingram near the goal line, too. I can't see Graham outperforming his ADP at this point.

Not to mention that he looked plenty special towards the end of last season. And how about a 6'6", 260 guy lining up in the backfield, split out wide, etc. Nothing special there right?

I'm not expecting Gates numbers. I also didn't draft him where Gates was drafted. But TE is not a deep position. He won't be as prolific as Gates, Witten, or Clark might be.. and Davis is the #1 receiving option on SF.. but there is no doubt Graham is an oft looked at target in a high powered offense. He should finish TE5-6 with TE3 upside, which is what most who drafted him are expecting. He got 1/7th of the targets and several of them in the red zone. There will be some 3 for 35 stat lines, but just as easily could be some 7 for 100 and 2 stat lines. That's just the way FF is.

Man, he sure does a lot of talking/woofing on the field. Goodness... Lance Briggs said he absolutely did not shut up the entire game. Putting on the belt as they were losing to the Packers was a bit odd too. I guess he must have been tutored closely by Mr Shockey.

Interesting info from Week 2:

Heads up Jimmy Graham owners – he played just 33 snaps, compared to 48 by Dave Thomas. Graham was pulled in run blocking situations, but his pass routes did drop by 20 this week, which is a red flag.

Should be expected with game in hand and the running game in full effect. Nothing to see here.
Yeah, Jimmy is the unquestioned starter. NO CHANCE dave thomas takes over for him without injury.

No, Thomas isn't going to leap-frog Graham, but it wasn't simply a matter of running out the clock last Sunday either...I went back through the play by play of that game and the Saints were passing right up until the end of the game...

Isn’t there a legitimate explanation for why Jimmy Graham’s pass routes dropped this week? Weren’t they nursing a three score lead and running more to preserve it? Why does this info count as a red flag for graham?

There were 16 fewer opportunities for him, which is part of it. However, he ran 41 of a possible 56 in Week 2. He ran 21 of a possible 40 in Week 2. That’s still a drop from 73% to 52%. Red flag? Maybe. But he still has as much upside as any of the top TEs not named Gates.

I'm a Graham owner so I hope it's just a blip on the radar...

I don't know. Which game was the fluke? It's fair to wonder if his usage in game 1 was the fluke since they trailed early.

Personally I'm a little worried that Payton might be using Graham like he used Bush and uses Sproles. More like a weapon than a starter.

I'm not, he 7 targets in week 1 and 7 targets in week 2 the number of snaps doesn't matter and will change based on game plan/flow of the game. As long as his targets stay consistent then there is nothing to see here.

per Rotowire:

Graham has been targeted by Brees more times (48) in his first five games than any receiver in Brees' six-year tenure with the club, according to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.Spin: Graham both leads the team in receptions (32) and yards (496). As if owners needed any more reason to start Graham weekly, Tampa Bay, the Saints opponent on Sunday, is beat up defensively, listing linebackers Mason Foster and Zac Diles as questionable and Quincy Black as probable.

When Brees throws jump balls to him in the end zone over midget CBs, I break out my impression of Paulie in Goodfellas.

"It's not even fair..."

:excited:

I understand it is early....but does anyone want to throw out some projections for next year? I am curious what some of the bandwagon starters are expecting as far as production. He is on the waiver wire in my dynasty league (no TE required).....18 man rosters.....12 teamer.
60/750/5
60/720/10
ummm.. lol
Really? Why?If any part of that projection is accurate, it would be the TD portion. Learning to run routes may take more time but I think he has already figured out how to go get a rebound in the end zone. He had 5 TDs this year in the last 8 games.
:bag:

Having kind of a bad game today and is still 7/82/1. I freaking love this guy.
