Hypothetically, say you didn't do coke. Could you afford a suit?RokNRole said:Well the jokes on them. My family hasn't got 2 nickels
He could hypothetically just go to Goodwill for a jacket and still do blow. He could also hypothetically get his #### together.Hypothetically, say you didn't do coke. Could you afford a suit?
Somebody in my family is a Lab Tech that works in a lab where they do substance abuse testing on urine and blood samples. She laughs at the people that submit samples that clearly show somebody has drank excessive amounts of water to "beat the test". They also can spot the "test cheat" substances sold in head shops. But, I'm sure you know more about it.RokNRole said:For the sake of arguement
yes I do know and it varies by person. Less so with follicle but no company is going to do a follicle test for an office job.
Didn't you state you would be switching from weed to coke? Either way, I think you are underestimating how long you can still test positive after you use.I'm guessing you don't realize I'm not talking about weed
A OTC cheek swab is as sophisticated as the test equipment they have in a lab, so Congrats!BTW I just took the swab and it was negative
I have references that can vouch for my work ethic. How are you going to prove how hard of a worker you are? Saying without proof is silly. Really have to show and doesn't look good if you are currently unemployed.
There can be good reasons to not go to college but will need to explain that as well.
I've passed urine tests after 2 weeks of not smoking. Less than two weeks even. I'll be fine because they won't be doing follicle tests.A OTC cheek swab is as sophisticated as the test equipment they have in a lab, so Congrats!
I was kidding about the coke. Geez.Didn't you state you would be switching from weed to coke? Either way, I think you are underestimating how long you can still test positive after you use.
But, your methods have put you on the road to success, so keep up the good work.![]()
I don't do coke.Hypothetically, say you didn't do coke. Could you afford a suit?
What's the usual base salary for something like that?Congrats(?) To the folks sniffing this out as an insurance job early on.
Sounds like they are one of those companies that gets you to call friends and family and set up meetings for ways you can save them money. If anyone bites, you can then go through the script and at the end say "look, we can save you $100 a month. Now don't you think you need some life insurance for $50 a month?"
Something I actually learned from my wife - try TJ Maxx or Marshall's. They have men's, do it yourself, find it, try it on, etc. But if Jos. Banks, Penny's, Macy's type thing is too much $ that's what I'd suggest. What are my options for an affordable suit?
What town are you in? NO even has second hand stores with decent suits and jackets *cheap*. If TJ Maxx fails try that. Get "a suit."After crunching the numbers I just can't swing a suit or sport jacket at the moment.
DFW area but I barely have a penny to spend on a suitWhat town are you in? NO even has second hand stores with decent suits and jackets *cheap*. If TJ Maxx fails try that. Get "a suit."
Have you tried this kind of thing?DFW area but I barely have a penny to spend on a suit
I remember in the far reaches of my back history an experience like this, could happen. But imo every interview was a step forward and learning experience. Be prepared, look good, go through the exercise and you will be readier when the real thing hits.Fwiw my wife, with no working experience outside the home was called in for a similar (sounds similar from what you wrote anyway) position, or so they said. Turned out to be a sales pitch for an almost exclusively commission-sales job. She, without having worked in over a decade, was easily the most put together person there. She declined the "job".
Hopefully this isn't that. If it's a decent job, be upfront and honest about your experience. They will figure it out if you're not. But emphasize your motivation.
Business appropriate, imo anyway means suit. Honestly if you can't afford it they may not want you.
One of my interviews, which job I declined, was as a "financial advisor" but really selling whole life was how they make most of their commission. Couldn't do it, I won't work somewhere where I'm encouraged to push a specific product that might not be right for the client.
I think the best I could do is pick up a white shirt and tie to go with my black slacks and boots.I remember in the far reaches of my back history an experience like this, could happen. If you iron the shirt, yes.I think the best I could do is pick up a white shirt and tie to go with my black slacks and boots.
do you think that would be adequate for "business professional" attire?
i could always explain that my previous career was business casual attire and I do not own a full suit
Not at the moment. I haven't received any unemployment yet
If I can find a way to swing it would it be appropriate to wear that jacket with khakis and light blue Lacoste shoes?
Really?Commence eye gouging. Are you serious?
Edit: Never mind, carry on. Light blue Lacoste shoes will look marvelous with the jacket and khakis.
If I went with brown shoes do I need a brown jacket?@RokNRole - you need a pair of loafers. I prefer brown w khakis, but if want to go black fine. Check out your local WalMart/TJMaxx/Ross/Marshalls or thrift shop. Stop w the blue Lacoste....it's not interview appropriate.
No. Navy blue blazer/sport coat is fine. Works w chinos, light blue or white shirt too.If I went with brown shoes do I need a brown jacket?
I only have a black/brown reversible beltNo. Navy blue blazer/sport coat is fine. Works w chinos, light blue or white shirt too.
Belt = matches shoes
This has gotta be schtick, right?I only have a black/brown reversible belt
would that work? Do they make light blue belts?
You're ####ed for anything other than pizza delivery.http://imgur.com/a/ejiRE
Those are the nicest pants and shoes I own. Is there anything I can put with that on the cheap for business professional attire for this and future interviews?
Tie? Yes. Absolutely.Just tried on my blue shirt and a can't get the top button fastened without being noticeably choked.
tie necessary?
This is something I considered for the interim as well as waiting tables. You're ####ed for anything other than pizza delivery.
Black shoes are fine w grey.http://www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/burlingtoncoatfactory/Men/Suits-Suit-Separates/Suit-Separates/Modern-Fit-Grey-Suit-Collection-ModernFitGreySuitCollectionset.aspx?h=57418,57429
ive got my eye on that one and I have the same shirt as in the pic. Would black shoes go with this? What color tie would you recommend?
thanks for the heads up on collar extenders. I didn't know those existed
Think I can put this together for $200 max?Black shoes are fine w grey.
Look for a tie that's close to the pic, something w grey+black
Yes. Definitely.Think I can put this together for $200 max?
I have a few instruments I could probably pawn to make 2 c-notes quickly if needed. I think Burlington is the way to go. I will update once I have put something together.Yes. Definitely.
Suit = $90 (if I read that link right)
shoes = $50 (and you can probably find them for less)
tie =$15 (at most)
you've got shirt and belt. assuming socks are not an issue.
After you find a gig that pays on a regular basis, you can upgrade as necessary. You're just looking to make a good 1st impression for this interview, and the ones that follow.
You guys all realize that this is exactly what this is.Fwiw my wife, with no working experience outside the home was called in for a similar (sounds similar from what you wrote anyway) position, or so they said. Turned out to be a sales pitch for an almost exclusively commission-sales job. She, without having worked in over a decade, was easily the most put together person there. She declined the "job".

edit- just released you meant for the brown shoes.
i was just looking at Burlington coat factory website. There is one down the block and they seem to have some great deals on 2 piece suits.
if I can find a way to get a blue or grey suit from them can I wear my baby blue button down underneath with appropriate footwear?
is a tie necessary if I'm wearing a 2 piece suit? I'm not even sure I can wear a tie because I have a very thick neck from a lifetime of head banging and there is no way I could button the collar comfortably
Sometimes you just go too far with this shtick. You sell the genius IQ plus the naivete', but then you up the ante too much and overplay your hand. Shirts come with different collar sizes, who knew?
