Jim Corbett, of the USA Today, reports New Orleans Saints WR Joe Horn, who at 34 says he's in the best shape of his career, has been taking on-field mental repetitions with new Saints' QB Drew Brees, whose throwing has been limited after surgery in January. "We go through plays, and Drew will say, 'Joe, this is what I'm going to do when the DB is here,' " Horn says. "Drew seems like a cool dude."

This is the kiss of death. Any time an aging Vet says he's in the best shape of his life (or someone else testifies to that) the guy always breaks down. Priest Holmes said that before one of the last two seasons. Faulk said it a couple of years ago.

Stallworth just got bumped up a peg in my rankings. Then again, I own both in 1 league so my loss is also my gain....

I think I remember Eddie George saying that one year before he went out and averaged like 1.03 yds a carry.

Telepathic fantasy football. Projections??

I predict 19 mental TD's by Horn and Brees this year and a few more in pregame warm ups before Horn pulls himself from the starting lineup despite being in the best shape of his career....

I believe Curtis Martin said it last year, too.

So did Tiki. How did his year turn out?

Shhhhh.....you are ruining our point!

If I were Horn, I'd tell everybody that I was in the third best shape of my career. That makes it sound more realistic.

Curtis Martin last year - 32 y/o, 3300 carries (career to date)

Tiki Barber last year - 30 y/0, 1532 carries (career to date)

Tell me the difference you see here...this might be the difference between one player being in the "best shape ever" and the other. One was trying to convince his body it was younger than it was. One was actually still feeling fresh.

I owned George that year. I remember his typical stat line was like 32 carries for 65 yards. Just horrible. It was always blamed on the O-Line though

Unless they're using Massengill, neither of them feel fresh after 6-7 years in the NFL. Horn talking about the best shape of his life, means as much as any other guy talking about the best shape of his life. Not that much.

But I prefer that over "I can barely roll out of bed - and it's the offseason".

I'm afraid to bump up Stallworth any more. I think I already have him ranked higher than everyone in the known universe.

memo to Joe Horn: Joe Horn is not in the best shape of his career.

I'd love to read a piece around this time of year from a football player admitting that he's in the "worst shape" of his career, that a decade of $$$ salaries has made him cynical and bored of the whole business, and that he can't wait to retire, but only after milking a few last multi-million $$$ salaries from his sucker of a team.

So did Jerry Rice (adding 10 lbs of bulk) in 2002 before ripping off a 1250 yard season...Joe is good for another year. Brees will revatalize him.

Add David Boston in 2002, 2003, and 2004 to this list of "best shape of my career" seasons (after a Pro Bowl appearance in 2001).

:lmao: No kidding. I'll believe it when I see it.

Wasn't CMart claiming to be in the best shape the year he "won" the rushing title? It was the year he was doing all the stair climbing in...San Fran (maybe).

Not to throw a curve to the overall consensus of it being the kiss of death.

I recall times where the player has done well after this statement but it's too early to recall any.

Call me crazy but I see Horn as a great value pick this year. You can probably get him as your #3 WR in most leagues - with upgrades at QB and RB I can see him putting up solid numbers and finishing as a solid second WR on most teams.

Curtis Martin said this before his big season in 2004.FWIW, this is just meaningless pre-season chatter. Guys are always talking about how they bulked up for more power, or slimmed down for more speed, or are in the best shape of their life etc etc.

What is he supposed to say? "Man, I feel like #### and there's no way I'm gonna be any good this year?"

I'm mentally calling him on his cell phone to tell him that Mud won't be touching Joe Horn this year before the 12th round. Fool me once...

I'd agree Kiddnets. But in the two Satellite Leagues I've seen he's gone in the 4th as a #2 and in the 6th as a #3.It will be interesting to see where he "lands" ADP wise, he could be a "Rod Smith Value guy.

I got him in the ninth as my fourth or fifth WR, I think.

I think I will take a shot at Mike Hass late in the draft. Young, hungry rookie who just flat out knows how to make the catch. Making a Steve Largent comparrison might be too much but he has great body positioning and just has football skills.

Stallworth has talent but just to unpredictable and a fantasy liability each week because you never know who will show up.
