Joe Nedney (1 Viewer)

I know Kickers are almost irrelevant in every league, but in mine they have allot of value.

In the Salary cap league Joe Nedney is a very cheap kicker to put on my roster.

I feel he is terribly underrated and will go undrafted in many leagues.

I just see the 9ers constantly in Red Zone, failing to capalize on TDS in a very very weak division. Pts gotta be put on the board some way. Not to mention the 9ers defense will set up ALLOT of short fields for the offense.

Do you feel he can be a top 5 kicker this year?

Thanks.

The reason kickers are "almost irrelevant" isn't because they don't score much in most leagues.

It's because the best ones don't score all that much more than the worst ones, and because figuring out who those will be is such a crapshoot.

Could Nedney be a top 5 K this year? Sure. So could 20 other guys. If Nedney is cheaper than most other guys, he's probably a decent play.

How is your league scoring different?
In our league, the top kicker scored as many points as the #5 RB. The problem with kickers is they are so unpredictable. To score a lot of points they have to have the team get into position to kick field goals, and then fail to score a td. That's why the previous year's top kicker almost always falls out of the top five the next year.

A few K stats (for those into that sort of thing)...

27. Profile of a Top Five Kicker

“The whole is more than the sum of its parts.” - Aristotle

In summary of various sections above, a Top Five kicker can be profiled as follows:

- Could end up just about anywhere in the rankings the year afterward

- Nearly half of them ranked between 6th and 15th the preceding year

- 87% of them ranked in the top ten in number of field goal attempts

- Kickers with a field goal completion percentage from 85%-90% have the best odds of being a top five scorer

- 73% come from top ten scoring offenses

- 60% come from top ten yardage offenses

- 52% come from top ten scoring defenses

- 51% come from top ten yardage defenses

- A team with a new kicker is less likely to be in the top five in kicker scoring than one with an incumbent

- A team with a new quarterback is less likely to be in the top five in kicker scoring than one with an incumbent

- A team with a new head coach is less likely to be in the top five in kicker scoring than one with an incumbent

- Kickers with a home dome stadium do slightly better than those outdoors, but the difference is small

I play in a league with roiessere scoring. You get in first if you rank the best in 8 statistical categories:

Yars per Throw

Per Carry

Per Catch

Touchdowns

Passing Yards

Rushing Yards

Recieveing yards

and

Kicking

I got in fourth overall mainly becuase i finished 1st in kicking and was ahead of the other 24 players in my league by bunch of points.

Got lucky and rolled with Akers, Tynes, and Longwell.

Should i just go with simple strategy of getting the most expensive kickers that are proven to be top 5 such as Akers, Keading, or Crosby.

I'm thinking of going with Akers, Crosby, and Harley (Who is listed at a VERY cheap price)

Just thought I could roll with another cheap kicker like Nedny who could do just as well as Crosby or Akers. Which is why im asking about him.

As Doug Collins might say, the team that scores the most points almost always wins.
