Joel Zumaya (1 Viewer)

Threw a pitch... crumbled to the ground in agony. Looks awful. :lmao:
That looked real bad. No way he plays again this year.
I see no way in hell he pitches again this year. Every step he took walking off the field was unbearable. So let's say he goes through (another) rehab and comes back next year. How do you mentally prepare yourself to throw 100 mph after what he just experienced. Very, very difficult situation. Would not surprise me if his career is over.

Joel Zumaya placed on DL; Tigers recall Fien

The Tigers took the first steps this morning in life without flame-throwing reliever Joel Zumaya.

The team recalled right-hander Casey Fien from Triple-A Toledo. He will be in the bullpen for tonight’s game at Minnesota.

Zumaya officially went on the 15-day disabled list today with an injured right elbow. However, he is expected to be out much, much longer after suffering his injury throwing a pitch in the eighth inning Monday night.

Zumaya, 25, was scheduled for an exam today. After the game, manager Jim Leyland said: “It doesn’t look good. It breaks your heart.”

Fien appeared in 26 games with the Mud Hens, going 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA and three saves. He had 27 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings.

the guys arm motion is so violent and injury was bound to happen. Detroit sports talk radio throwing around the term "tommy John surgery". too early to tell

That certainly wouldn't surprise me, but there is no way to tell yet. The injury that typically results in Tommy John isn't generally such a catastrophic injury. For all we know, he may have dislocated his elbow or something.

The team said an MRI revealed he had a nondisplaced fracture of the olecranon.

Wow, to bad for Zumaya great player and person. But the first place Tigers will have to move on without him. Before the loss of Zumaya best bullpen in A.L. and even after the loss it still is.
