Abraham furious at Jets<Feb. 18> According to the New York Daily News, the Jets' decision to place the franchise tag on Abraham for the second year in a row has infuriarated the defensive end, who has told friends he doesn't want to play for the Jets anymore. The designation prevents Abraham from being an unrestricted free agent, and it enables the Jets to trade him after March 3. The franchise tender for a defensive end will be $8.3 million in 2006. The amount is determined by the average salary of the five highest-paid players at the position. Several teams, including the Chargers, Redskins, Browns and Texans, are reportedly interested in Abraham. One possibility could be a deal with San Diego for quarterback Philip Rivers. New Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was Rivers' quarterback coach the last two seasons.
