John Harbaugh "open" to adding WR Plaxico Burress (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
"The Baltimore Ravens would consider looking at former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress to help their passing game, coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday.I don't know Plaxico Burress at all, I've never met him, but we'd consider him," Harbaugh said. "We'd consider anybody. It just depends on where he's at. I'd like to find out what kind of person he is, to see where he's really at in his life."The Ravens suffered through a series of receiver blunders during Saturday's 31-24 AFC Divisional Playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.Burress is set to be released from jail in June following a two-year sentence for carrying an unregistered gun that went off and wounded his leg at a nightclub. In nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Giants, Burress had 505 receptions for 7,845 yards with 55 touchdowns.

Whoever gets him is going to be happy. The guy got used as example and still has the size or more to be productive. I am sure there will be more than one team interested.

All teams should keep their options open on this guy. Mike Vick had a pretty good season. I wonder what kind of condition a leg can be in after a gunshot, but if it's good to go, he'll get another shot in the NFL. This off season people were saying Vick was done as a starter. Nobody knows anything about anybody.

Burress has had a year to rest and reload. This may have been the best thing to have happened for the longetivity of his career.

When compared to other crimes from athletes (such as L Little, and D Stallworth), this was truly a case where the punishment didn't fit the crime. I hope he gets one last chance in the NFL.

The Ravens need to take the Steelers approach, and draft some speedy young receivers. Wallace, Sanders, etc...

Quit drafting slow, aging vets.

Just what Baltimore needs: another hasbeen WR to complain all season and drop balls in the playoffs.
Yeah, what has Burress ever done in a big game! :loco:
:goodposting: Burress was foolish to be carrying the unlicensed weapon in New York City, and very foolish to be carrying it with a round in the chamber (and without a holster, in his waistband). However, he has paid for this many times over - he suffered a wound; he lost out on a lot of $ in the years he's been behind bars; he did his time in the lockup. If he still has skills at the level he displayed before the incident, he should be picked up by a NFL club. The guy was a game changer for a while.

It all depends on how much his skills have eroded while A). not having pro-level training facilities at his disposal B). spending two years away from his chosen profession and C). if he can convince a NFL franchise that his off-field street-thug persona is a thing of the past.

He'll probably get an incentive-laden contract at veteran minimum as the base, IMO.

Agree with most posters that he definitely served ample time for the crime, but he has not played since week 12 of the 2008 season. He has set out two full seasons and will be 34 when pre-season begins. I think that his age and the time out will make his return a severe challenge.

I agree..Burress has neven been known for his work ethic and that will make it even tougher.

The Ravens, especially as configured under Harbaugh, have no interest in this guy.

He was doing his end of season press conference and a reporter brought up Plax out of nowhere. So he gave a very non-comittal answer:

"I don't know Plaxico Burress at all, I've never met him, but we'd consider him. We'd consider anybody."

Agreed that the last thing this team needs is another aging WR who can't stretch the field.

Convenient that you left out the last part of that quote."It just depends on where he's at. I'd like to find out what kind of person he is, to see where he's really at in his life."

I don't think he'd bother adding all that if he had NO interest.

Don't know why that's "convenient." Just didn't think it was that relevant. From my point of view as a close and long-time follower of the Ravens is that they will have no interest in Plax whatsoever, especially after the failed Houshmanzadeh experience and Harbaugh's focus on "high effort" guys. I've never heard Plax's name mentioned once all year, and am just putting this thread in the context that Harbaugh only brought his name up in response to a direct question about Burress.

You can't go in da club and shoot someone and not go to prison, regardless of the fact that he shot himself. How does the punishment not fit the crime? Guy should be thankful he can still walk. Surprised his name is even being brought up.
