Did anyone catch Madden saying that Stallworth is the best No.2 WR in the NFL during last night's game? I must have missed it or something, but according to Skip Bayless right now, he did.

So I guess Stallworth is better than Wayne when Harrison is healthy?

or better than Houshmandzadeh?

or better than Santonio Holmes?

or better than Anquan Boldin?

Please forgive me... but wow. What an insane comment, if he said this. We can't always believe Skip Bayless either though.

I vaguely recall him talking about Stallworth and Buffalo Wings, but then I turned off the game.

Stallworth isn't even the best #2 WR on his team.

It's boneheaded comments like this that fuel the fire on this board. The Pats fans have nothing to do with it, but someone will inevitably come in and defend it, sparking Jihad. Enough kissing the Pats' behinds already - I'm the biggest Pats homer there is, but I honestly can't stand all the hype. Just get me to the playoffs and then they can hype it all they want.

Yes, I can confirm that he did make this statement. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it last night.
Madden's age is starting to show. He's always been a little goofy but mixing goofiness and age is a bad combo for a commentator. Seems to me Al Michaels is politely laughing at Madden's comments, but Al has to be wondering where Madden is going with his commentary half the time. I wonder when NBC will have the cajones to show him the door. He still knows football but his time in a booth should be coming to end. I always thought Pat Sumerall was getting pretty bad towards the end of his days of play calling and was calling games when shouldn't have been.

True story. Said Moss was the best #1 WR in the league (can't argue there), Stallworth's the best #2 WR in the league (oh wow), and Welker is the best #3 WR in the league (you could make that case)

why does anyone take anything Madden or Bayless said as useful , credible information about football.

Take Madden as pure entertainment now a days ... he's just unintentional comedy.

Bayless talks to hear himself.... and he is the only person that should even be listening.

I can live with those comments. I love listening to Madden. If I was looking for someone with ALL their facts straight, I would look elsewhere, but there's something comforting (even with the inaccuracies and off the wall comments) listening to Madden call a game.

wow. I can't believe the Stallworth comment got it's own thread when Madden came straight out and said Brady is playing better than any QuarterBack ever, including Joe Montana.

and I do think Madden has been better this year. There was a while there on Monday Nights that he had completely lost it.

IMO, he's doing a bit better on this Sunday Night network.

How about when Moss was arguing what a call was on the sideline with a teammate, Madden suggested he was just ordering a hotdog.

Why? The Stallworth comment is pretty controvercial. The Brady comment is true.

Every member of the Patriots starting lineup

is better than that of any other team in the league,

therefore Stallworth is the best #2 WR in the league.

:goodposting:

I\'d love to hear Madden stammer his way through an answer to the question asking who is better as between Favre and Brady. We\'d probably hear more about Buffalo Wings than anything substantive.

Maybe Madden was having a "senior moment" and meant Steeler great John Stallworth? Or maybe he was just thinking about getting his hands on some chicken wings....

This entire thread has me rolling. :D

Madden makes some darn funny comments. I heard the comment about Stallworth and I could not possibly believe it. I think Boldin, Housh, Harrison/Wayne would definitely have something to say about it.

While we are on the topic of the game last night, I wanted to make a comment about something I found odd but did not want to start YET ANOTHER Patriots thread. Did anyone catch around the beginning of the second quarter after one of the TD passes to Moss, Brady walked over to Moss (who was sitting on the bench), told him to get up (you could read his lips), Moss got up agreeably, and Brady laid some towels on the bench before he could sit down in Moss' spot. I found that quite intriguing and odd. It was almost as if it was assumed that if Brady wanted the seat, it was his before he even looked at it.

I think Greg Jennings is better than Stallworth as well.
Me too. Stallworth drops too many passes and he is constantly injured. I cannot believe he is not injured yet this season. He has only played 1/3 of his career completely (2 out of 6 seasons where he played 16 games).

Madden's best player at each position depends on which game he's covering that particular week. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I thought he meant best #2 ever. Jabar Gaffney is the best #4 ever. God, I'm sick of the Patriots, or I should say coverage of the Patriots.

 Guys - it's just Monday Night Hyperbole. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
:goodposting: :goodposting: The guy gets paid to talk during the game, he has to say something. It seems like he does make some statements that aren't fully thought out but I like that WAY better than ##### bag Kornheiser and his folder full of notes, stats and puns that he has every game. I think you could make the argument that moss+stallworth+welker = the best 1-3 group in the league. Admittedly I am a huge fan of Madden. I think he has changed the way we look at football, really brought attention to the guys in the trenches and his use of the "coaches clicker" paved the way for a lot of the great production we see now. Not to mention he was a very good coach and wears a super bowl ring. The guy has credibility. If he says, off the cuff, that Stallworth is the best #2 in the league I'll just listen and agree to disagree. No matter how "sharkish" we think we are nobody on this board has the resume of John Madden.

Exactly. My wife and I basically listen for his "This guy is the best ____ in the league" comment during each of his games. That and "____ is so big and so strong" are just part of his commentary.Move on.

As much as I hate Brady (it's my duty as a Jets fan), Brady has done it in the past and is playing lights out right now. *38* TDs already? My god. Not only is Stallworth not the best WR #2 in the league, he's not even the real #2 ON HIS TEAM, and he's barely outscoring the TE who missed half the season.

He didn't say that Stallworth as the best #2 in the NFL, he said "Moss may be the best WR in the NFL, then you have Stallworth who is a great #2 option, then you have Welker who may be the best #3 WR in the NFL.

Not very controversial there, if that's what he really said. (I was at the Jets game and tailgating afterwards and didn't see the Pats).

I'd be willing to agree with this. Brady is gonna end up as the winningest QB to ever play the game as well as possibly owning EVERY QB record. And I love Joe Montana!

Stallworth is one of the more talented WRs in the league... NE got him cheap because he's had a history of hamstring issues, and New Orleans went a different direction. But yes, as a Colts fan, I will say that Stallworth is every bit as good, if not better, than Wayne.

Correct. He seemed to mumble a bit during the Stallworth portion.

New Orleans went in another direction & Philly did as well. Stallworth has more speed than Wayne and that's pretty much where that comparison ends.LAUNCH

Pats homer. I did hear him say that. IMO Stallworth will be cut loose at the end of the season and Chad Jackson will take his place. He dropped a perfect pass last night. A good player who commands respect but he is not one of the best number 2 guys in the league. Stallworths contract escalates dramatically next year and the pats will not get hurt by cutting him. IMO they will use the extra money and some cap money to wrap up Moss.

He was a free agent, PHI didn't "let him go." The only edge Wayne has on Stallworth is hands. But speed, and routes, Stallworth is better.Stallworth would be a #1 WR for any other team, as would Wayne. He played lights out in PHI before injury, had comparable numbers (when healthy) to what Wayne has put up this season. Wayne has Manning throwing to him, Stallworth has had Aaron Brooks and Donovan McNabb (not a pretty passer). You can knock him all you want, but he is one of the elite WR talents in the league.

And BTW, this has been my stand since well before Stallworth was a Patriot - he is a great WR, but has been limited by injuries. You could ask any professional NFL scout and they would agree with me.

Take away Brady, and Stallworth is garbage. There, it had to be said. He underperformed in PHI, and he underperformed in NO. I could name about 30 non-#1 wrs thatd put up his stats or better in his current situation.

Funny - he underperformed in PHI? Are you CRAZY??????????

Not to nitpick here, but I believe the context of what he was saying was lost in your translation. Didn't he say that he was the best kind of #2 for this NE team? Going on to say that with Moss on one side consistently drawing double coverage and Welker working the middle better than anyone in recent memory. Stallworth is ideal because of his ability to get deep especially vs single coverage.

If you asked me who the NE #2 WR is I'd say Welker. Do we have to call Stallworth the #2 only because he lines outside all the time?

Stallworth is clearly not the best #2 in the league. However,Even before the injury, Wayne has become the #1 in Indy.Housh is the #1 in CincyHolmes MIGHT be the #1 in PittsburghBoldin/Fitz is a toss up

 I believe Brady will break the QB wins record and be considered the winningest QB in history but I am pretty sure he isnt catching Favre/Manning in yards or TD's. His yardage in his first 6 years were pedestrian to good (although he did lead the league one year I believe) compared to Favre/Manning/Marino.

 Stallworth was EXCELLENT for Philly last year. He was an excellent deep threat. The fact that he was playing with a QB that couldnt really throw the deep ball cut down on his stats. I know watching every game there werent many drops and after missing 4 games early in the year, he didnt miss any others inlcuding 2 playoff games. He scored a TD in each playoff game.
