Jon Baldwin is ACTIVE today (1 Viewer)

Abstract

Footballguy
Baldwin is finally active today. He's missed the last 9 weeks due to breaking his thumb in a locker room fight with Thomas Jones. He may be someone we need to keep our eyes on.

Looks pretty good for all the naysayers calling him a bust already... I think the kid has some potential and could be a beast for years to come under haley.... What do you guys think???? He should be wr2 behind Bowe and ahead of breaston very soon.

But...but...Thomas Jones punched him in the face! He must be a bust!

Yet another example of why you shouldn't downgrade players until they get a real opportunity.

He's built very similar to Calvin Johnson - 6'4 1/2" 228lbs.

If he can harness his athleticism, I think this guy could be a stud.

Definitely somebody to keep an eye on.

I automatically downgrade all rookies who get knocked out in training camp by a vet
Did he really get knocked out by Jones? That has me thinking about when T.O. apparently beat up Hugh Douglas.....
I don't remember that one.
If you remember at one time him and Hugh Douglas got into a fight, not in the locker room, but in the room where they had the underwater treadmill. They got into it and all of a sudden you see T.O. hitting the button and he's rising out of the water and when he gets out they start getting into it. They were about to fight and T.O. goes, "Let me go get my shoes."

I said he's built similar. They are.
For the record, Im built similar to Adrian Peterson at 6'1" and 220
just picked you up in my big money league.

I'm from philly, and from what everyone was saying when this incident took place, it seemed like T.O. got the better of him. From what I remember, after the "fight," T.O. was challenging anyone else that wanted to fight. The Baldwin vs Tjones fight I haven't heard anything other then Baldwin broke his hand during the fight. Doesn't seem like he got knocked out like somebody else previously said...

Took him at 1.10 in a dynasty in May. Even if he does nothing this year feel positive about his future.

I get your point but come on. They are much different people but do have similar talent. How he channels it is unknown but he could be a very good player. His drops in this game are a problem though.Calvin ran the 40 at 4.35 in borrowed shoes. Baldwin ran it at 4.5.

So you're ripped like AP? Gotcha. Height and weight does not a similar build make. Nice try though..... for the record.

Baldwin is clearly someone to watch, if not add at this point. He has top level body control and leaping ability, last night he was meeting the ball at the highest point of his jump with both hands. On a different team I'd be more excited about his potential but even so he is on my short list of young WRs with strong WR1 potential.

Every wr will drop a few. I'm definitely going to try and pick him up this week. The next couple of weeks he has an opportunity for some nice numbers. Home games vs Miami and Denver the next two weeks. Hopefully Champ Bailey will be primarily on Bowe.

First of all, Calvin Johnson is bigger, stronger, faster, and has less diva qualities than Baldwin.

Now having said that, Baldwin has some exceptional tools to work with, many in the same ballpark as CJ.

Baldwin: 6'5" 230lbs

Calvin: 6'5" 239lbs

40 yard dash:

Baldwin 4.49

Calvin 4.35

10 yard split:

Baldwin 1.58

Calvin 1.52

20 yard split:

Baldwin 2.57

Calvin 2.53

Vertical:

Baldwin 42"

Calvin 42.5"

While there is a pretty sizable gap in the 40 times, the 10 and 20 yard splits are much closer. They both have great height to go along with great leaping ability. I don't think there is a CB or S in the league that can match either of them when it comes to snatching a ball at its highest point.

The tools are certainly there for Baldwin to become a star in this league. The biggest question about him is between his ears IMO.

Baldwin does have the tools; I agree with you. The TD catch he made was very nice. His body control was amazing and he seemed to stay in the air for a very long time. I was also impressed by his control on the one he dropped, when he was double covered. Cassell threw it up, Baldwin made a nice adjustment, just dropped it. It is very easy to see his talents translating to the. He will be one of the biggest red zone threats in the NFL very soon. I do, however, think he will be more Vincent Jackson than Brandon Marshall. Marshall has the tools to dominate all over the field because of his footwork; Jackson does not and is more restricted to the homerun. This will mostly limit Baldwin in PPR formats.

Those even mentioning Baldwin in the same sentence as Calvin are off their rocker. A more accurate comparison would be a young Marques Colston. They are both very big, somewhat slow and possess elite ball tracking and body control to make great catches. Baldwin showed some serious potential last night.

4.5 isn't really slow. Colston may be a good comparison though I think Baldwin is more athletic.

You're probably right, but it's also not fast. Calvin can outrun most people on the field. While you're right Baldwin is more athletic than the current version of Colston, did you see Marques his rookie year? He looked amazing. Over the years he's been hampered and changed by injuries, but he looked extremely athletic his first couple seasons on the NFL.

Jon Baldwin, physically, looks like Calvin Johnson. Why is that so threatening to people?

Agree and Haley as his coach might be the best place to start off his career.
Why is this? Will Haley feature him in the offense or were you referring to him straightening Baldwin out " between the ears"?
Get him straightened out. He'll eventually move outside and push Breaston to the slot.

I think Baldwin's already done that

Interesting discussion from Peter King on Michael Holley's book about Belichick. Baldwin comes up when they are talking about the trade Atlanta made for Julio:

Fascinating, too, is the discussion of last spring's Julio Jones trade. Blank urged Dimitroff to feel out his friends in the business to see if the trades makes as much sense to them as it does to the Falcons. Dimitroff called Belichick. "As a friend,'' Belichick told him, "I wouldn't do it.'' His advice was to not move up 21 picks in the first round, with all the attendant costs, to get Jones. Stick where you are, and take a good receiver like Pitt's Jonathan Baldwin. He's just as good, Belichick says.Of course, the Falcons dealt for Jones. And Pioli took Baldwin for the Chiefs at the bottom of the round.

Really, Haley as his coach the best place to start his career. I'd say the complete opposite because haley doesnt like to utilize his best players. He thinks he is some kind of genius and plays mind games. Chiefs will never go anywhere with that clown.

No, he played in the slot.

I'm most fights, the guy with the broken hand is the guy who was knocking people out.
