Jonathan Stewart - RB, CAR - OUT (1 Viewer)

My guess is that the "unnamed source" is Darin Gantt, who works for PFT and used to be a Panthers beat writer.

He hasn't said anything directly yet though, so I'll wait for that before I take Stewart out of my lineup. The news here in NC hasn't seemed overly positive about him playing, so I'd say it's probably a 25% chance or less that he goes tonight.

I really hate Thursday games.

Still not definitive, but sure doesn't sound good:

Jonathan Stewart is edging closer to a no-show for Thursday night's game against the New York Giants. The Carolina Panthers running back has battled a toe injury all week and coach Ron Rivera doesn't expect him to play."I would be surprised if Jonathan is ready to go based upon what we saw this morning," Rivera told NFL Network's Stacey Dales just hours before kickoff.Rivera said Stewart tested the toe Thursday morning, but "it didn't feel right." Stewart hasn't been ruled out for the game, but another source told Dales that Stewart will likely be inactive. Fullback Mike Tolbert will see increased carries if Stewart can't go.

Figures - I follow every beat writer for the Panthers and no one has reported this yet. Ever since Darin Gantt and Steve Reed left, the Panthers beat is really suffering.

Jonathan Jones (who covers the Panthers for the Charlotte Observer) reported a hour ago that it looked like Stewart was going to be inactive, and a hour before that he said it didn't look like he was going to play. Gantt deserved being fired. He was too disrespectful to the Panther's staff on a regular basis.

OUT tonight. For what it's worth from CBS Sportsline:

Jonathan Stewart, RB, CAR

News: Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart was not in uniform for Thursday’s game against the Giants, after missing practice all week with an ankle injury. This confirms earlier reports saying that Stewart was unlikely to see the field as a result of the injury. DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert will see a boost in action.

Analysis: These weekly Thursday night games are going to be a problem all year, as they simply do not give injured players enough time to recover from the minor aches and pains of playing in the NFL. Fantasy owners should not have been relying on Stewart, as this is the way the signs were pointing all week long, but he should be taken out of the starting lineup in all Fantasy formats with this news.

Good to know. I stopped following Jones because he seemed to just report Joseph Person stuff. Maybe he's getting in the flow now... I loved Gantt because he was willing to give an actual opinion rather than just spew out what the team told him to. Plus he was always first with news.
