JoS A Bank Suits : 70% Off MON/TUES (1 Viewer)

The suits are of varying quality. I don't recommend the lowest line at all (I think they are called Executive), they look like a cheap suit. The signature suits are OK, and signature gold are decent. These suits never sell for list price though, so I always think this is false advertising.

I usually am a big fan of Jos A. Banks. I buy their ties when they have their huge sales, and I have been generally happy with their suits. I went and bought 3 suits for about a grand total in one of their big deals. I believe it was signature. The seem in my thigh tore the 2nd time I wore it.

I read an article about them recently; they basically want some kind of sale every week. I guess their focus going forward is factory stores (they just opened one at the factory outlet mall in Riverhead, NY - and they're planning on 50 to 70 more of these type of outlets in the next few years). The gist of the article was they have a pretty healthy ROI (something like 22% vs. 13% for the average clothing retailer), and this new strategy will probably change that dramatically. Forget how many stores they have overall but I was surprised at how widespread they are. I actually thought they were a local thingy until I saw a FFA thread about them a few years ago.:  :lmao: Anyways, agreed, the top end suits are OK, the lower end, not so much. But sounds like the sale the OP references is ALL suits.

I only buy about one suit a year so I stick to Hugo Boss suits. Might pay a little more but the quality is well worth it.

Don't waste your money. Wait for the big sales at the Saks/Neiman type outlets and get yourself a decent suit for the same price.

Guess it depends how often one wears suits. I never have to wear suits for work, so the only time I'm in a suit is at a wedding or special event. I have 4 suits, and I always go for a classic look that never goes out of style, this way, I don't have the need to constantly purchase new ones. Two of my 4 are from JAB and I haven't had any quality issues whatsoever.

I would disagree. I worked for Saks over 20 years ago, so I'll admit that they have some VERY nice suits, but Jos A Banks has plenty of quality for most suit wearers.I'm in sales, driving from appointment to appointment all day, every day. In and out of cars, packing and unpacking suits in the hotel room, pulling luggage and such, etc. I'm rough on a wardrobe.I've only had one suit from Banks give out on me, and it was a seam on the pants near the pocket, that gave out when I must have cought the pocket on something. Took it to the store, they fixed it for free, and the suit looked fine.I have over a dozen suits from Banks. For the price, they look good and they last.

Nothing wrong with JAB. I have purchased suits from a variety of labels over the years, including Brooks Brothers, Hilfiger, and JAB. The JAB suits have worn as well and look as good as the others.

They have 50% or 70% off sales, or buy 1 get 3 free it seems like every other week. My inbox gets flooded with their offers. I did buy some other stuff, but never suits. Their signature suits looked OK but most had funky stitching around the lapels and collars. Not my style..

How are their shirts and pants?
I have about 10 of the Travelers Shirts. Used to go to Brooks but didn't think their shirts held up that great, so tried Bank and really liked theirs.Suits are not as good as BB, but not bad.

I have 8 suits in my current rotation, and a couple of the older ones are JAB purchases. They look decent and I haven't had any quality issues with them. Of course, they don't come with all the bells and whistles (full lining in particular), but they are absolutely serviceable suits.

I have one of their signature suits. Standard navy blue. Nothing special, but worth whatever I paid for it at the time.

For those looking, I just picked up this suit at Macy's. With an additional discount from my Macy's card it was about $215. I'm pretty happy with it.

You're way off, Major.Nobody is comparing Jos. A Bank to Jeremy Street.

It is an excellent choice for guys like Brant ("driving from appointment to appointment all day, every day. In and out of cars, packing and unpacking suits in the hotel room, pulling luggage and such, etc.").

:lmao: JoS A Bank suits get a 6. No shame in putting yourself inside one every now and again, but wouldn't go around bragging to your buddies that it's sprawled out on your bed every morning.

I'm not laughing b/c he's wearing Jos. I'm laughing b/c he bought 12+ suits from there. Maybe, I'm just a quality over quantity guy but I'd rather buy a few nice suits and just take care of them. It really depends what industry you're in. Coming to a pitch in a wrinkled Jos A Bank wouldn't suit me well in my business.

Buy 1 suit get 3 free now through Saturday?

How are these? I will be doing traveling for my new job meeting with investors and visiting properties for purchase etc.

I have a nice custom blue suit, a custom black suit, and an older dark green hugo boss suit, but I feel like I need some lesser but nice looking suits and probably 1-2 more high quality suits from somewhere else.

Thoughts on this sale, and what types/colors I should have?

I have done them in the past, and they seem to wear down fairly quickly. I have had better luck with clearance shopping at Macy's. They tend to put their suits on clearance with good regularity and can get amazing prices. I have gotten nice looking and feel great suits for $100-150. Kenneth Cole, other designers they usually carry. Not even talking about their Alfani or whatever it is they have so much of.

I don't want to be an ### for those that shop here but we need a suit thread I guess. Bank is one of the worst and the suits do not hold up well. I can only share how I buy suits, not sure what everyone else is doing.

1. You want Italian wool plain and simple. I live down in South Florida and rarely travel into winter weather so my suits are the thin type but honestly I would buy Super 120s and 140s/150s.

2. Skip name brand suits like Hugo Boss, you are paying for the name and a couple of individual suit markings that other folks who own Hugo Boss suits will recognize and slap high 5s with you. Just go for Italian wool and don't get caught up in the name.

3. Go to a special suit broker that only deals in men's suits and is set up in a warehouse district. They might only be open 3-4 days a week in some cities. They will have a general section of suits and then they will have the special suits of finer materials in the back or a special room.

Bottom Line: I shop at Austin Burke down here in South FLorida, I buy 1 suit usually in the range of $500 to maybe $750…they have wonderful suits for $300 but I like the Italian suits. I buy one of these though and here is the kicker, they give you another same price for free. So Bank is giving away terrible suits that end up costing about $150-$200 a piece plus you gotta have those suits tailored which can cost money and if you go cheap on the alterations I promise you look like holy hell whether you realize it or not. Tailoring can cost more than some suits you buy off the rack.

Now the same place I go for buy 1 suit get one for free, I buy another suit at full price they throw in 2 more for free. So yes I go spend $1000-$1500 on suits but I am getting 5 top of the line suits and the end cost is not much more than what you pay per suit at the cheap places. I have suits that I have gotten 10+ years out of with very little effort. I find that most major cities have places like this around town. I believe it has always been this way but some guys gotta shop at Macy's. I would encourage you to seek out the garment district in your area.

And oh btw I am still a scum sucker compared to the guys who get their suits custom made. I looked into it at the place I have my suits tailored and he said upwards of $2,200 a piece, my jaw almost dropped.

No name Italian wool in the garment district preferably in a warehouse setting because you can assume there is little overhead compared to what Macy's is paying at the Mall of the Americas. Just use that as a guideline.

They vary in quality. The Executive Gold Collection isn't bad, but you're paying $850+ for the one suit. I'm not an expert, but I'd guess that Bank's top of the line suits are probably closer to a $600 suit if you're comparison shopping. Then they alter the other four suits (the alteration fees are significant) and you're well over $1000 spent. It's still not a bad deal. They're convenient, so that's where I've gotten most of my suits. Because I gain and lose weight a lot, I've never really worn out a suit so much as I've moved out of the size.

Questions. There's no way I'm spending $500 let alone $750 on a suit I may wear a dozen times. I'm all about spending wisely and paying a bit more for something that'll last me, but could it be you're a semi regular at this point and they're cutting you a deal because of that?

I actually buy two hugo boss suits per year. I wear a suit every day for work, so i need somethig that will last. Hugo Boss has an annual 50% sale in Feb where i pick up thier top of the line suit for under $500. One of the advatages for me is that the jackets fit me perfectly. Tailoring usually cost me less than 50. I have never gotten less than 7-8 years out of suit. Also, I have never had anyone high 5 me though, maybe an east coast thing?

Just had one of their stores open recently in my town. Was able to use a gift card I got for the holidays, $100 of their JOB bucks that I got from their website....and was able to get one of their "signature" suits (apparently "normally" $1k), 2 or 3 pairs of slacks, and 3 ties for a little over $300 on one of their "sales".

I'm not sure anyone ever buys anything from them a normal price.

70% off..buy 1 get 3 free....i hate these tactics. just price the damn suits. I guess it works, but not with me.

You do not wear a suit to work? A lot of folks do not.

I think it is about how you want to feel. I do not wear a suit much to work but I own quite a few for a variety of reasons. I like to throw one on and take my wife out to eat sometimes. The restaurant doesn't even have to be super fancy, just a nice mom n pop steakhouse is fine. I also like to have suits for when i need to go negotiate something or get the best deal on something, I find suits give off a vibe that you mean business and you understand business. I get treated with a lot better customer service. I'm not talking Swedish Fish prices here are Walgreen's but wear a suit the next time you pick out furniture for example, you would be surprised how much off the retail they go.

I think quality suits pay for themselves in many ways. I think a well tailored or custom tailored suit makes men look good and covers up a lot of flaws so many of us have. Mostly everyone looks pretty good in a suit. Look at how women treat you the next time you are wearing one in a non office or business setting.

When you add up all the little hidden costs at places like Bank, I don't think you come out ahead. And then there is the fact the suit won't hold up and will need replaced in a 2-3 years where I feel like with proper care you can easily get 5-10 years out of a good suit well made and tailored to your body.

But I understand why guys feel like they just need 1 suit, cheapest they can get by with for funerals and special occasions.

No offense, but this is way off. Bank's top of the line suit is more in the 300-400 range. It's not good stuff.

You can get a terrific suit from Suit Supply for $399, or a J.Crew Factory Thompson suit for $250 when they run sales (which are common).

 I dunno. it's just hard for me to look at a $800 price tag, plus the accessories to go along with it and see the feel-good-in-my-skin value of it. Maybe I'm just a total cheepo, Maybe there's Hugo guys and there's Banks/Macy's guys.

You don't need to spend that much money. Can I ask the closest big city you live in or nearby?

There has got to be a good warehouse suit style company somewhere in a 50 mile radius from where you live where you can get a good quality suit for under $300-$500.

Do you spend money on jeans or other types of clothes? ill you plunk down $150 for a pair of jeans? I assume no way. In Florida I wear shorts a lot so maybe the suit is like a novelty for me and I enjoy once or twice a week popping one on and going somewhere.

I like their boxer shorts. At $24 each it's expensive for underwear but when they have the buy 1 get 2 free sales it's the same price as boxers at a crappy place like Old Navy and the quality is far superior.

I like their suits just fine.

They used to only have a big sale twice a year - but now they have some program where they roll out a different big sale with ad campaign almost weekly.

In my opinion, they over charge for tailoring - for subpar quality work.

I'd rather spend a little more for an independent tailor.

Philly's my closest city. Took your advice and did some googleing and found this place. http://www.enzocustom.com/suits-and-shirts/ ( how the heck do we reword links since the board do over? )

It sounds & looks like the kind of place you've described and the prices look more in line with my sense of financial reality.
