JoS A Bank Suits : 70% Off MON/TUES (1 Viewer)

Buy 1 suit get 3 free now through Saturday?

How are these? I will be doing traveling for my new job meeting with investors and visiting properties for purchase etc.

I have a nice custom blue suit, a custom black suit, and an older dark green hugo boss suit, but I feel like I need some lesser but nice looking suits and probably 1-2 more high quality suits from somewhere else.

Thoughts on this sale, and what types/colors I should have?
They vary in quality. The Executive Gold Collection isn't bad, but you're paying $850+ for the one suit. I'm not an expert, but I'd guess that Bank's top of the line suits are probably closer to a $600 suit if you're comparison shopping. Then they alter the other four suits (the alteration fees are significant) and you're well over $1000 spent. It's still not a bad deal. They're convenient, so that's where I've gotten most of my suits. Because I gain and lose weight a lot, I've never really worn out a suit so much as I've moved out of the size.
You're in biglaw, right? You feel that they still look professional in that setting and in court?
:lmao: I leave my custom suits and Rolex at home when I'm in trial.

I just am asking whether they look notably cheap.

I hate to sound like OldOtis here, but the biggest issue with respect to whether a suit looks cheap or not is proper tailoring. A properly-tailored JAB suit is fine for court. The last thing I want is for some juror to notice that I'm wearing a hand-stitched Italian wool Hugo Boss suit in court.

100% agree, used to see Nick the Greek in Los Angeles, now have a guy in the Gables, people think I'm crazy for paying what I do for tailoring but the kind words people say when I wear them trumps the sticker shock IMO.

Maybe I do though if I am trying to get people to invest their money with me, but not so much on site meetings and the like.

Philly's my closest city. Took your advice and did some googleing and found this place. http://www.enzocustom.com/suits-and-shirts/ ( how the heck do we reword links since the board do over? )

It sounds & looks like the kind of place you've described and the prices look more in line with my sense of financial reality.
Enzo's is located in Rittenhouse Square/Penn Center and I bet you will find other suit dealers around there, maybe some of them actually get their suits from the bigger dealers there. A lot of the Yelp reviews on it appear to be good however I also know a lot of the reviews are from folks who have less than 5 reviews so you might assume they were friends of the owner sort of speak, just be careful.

I think the idea here also is to not load up on shirts and ties from the place you are buying the suit. I prefer Brooks Brothers dress shirts and not much is gonna be comparable in a suit store. Suits at one store, Brooks Brothers for shirts, and then run over to Off Saks or Nordstrom's Rack for really good deals on silly priced ties. I won't spend $100 for a tie, simply will not do it. I rummage thru the ties at the expensive retail outlets like Saks and Rack because they discount the ties by 75% sometimes and you are getting an $80 tie for $20, far better than the Hilfingers you get at Ross and Marshalls.

Good luck if you are suit shopping, have fun with it and always be willing to walk away with nothing in hand if things are not to your liking. Only so many folks that go suit shopping on any regular basis so they want your business, always remember that.

Suits are for people working for the man or for people over 60. I fit neither category and in generally find suits the dumbest things ever created.

If I don't need a tux for the party, then pants with a nice cashmere sweater or long sleeve button up does just fine.

I wouldn't get any suits tailored there. Bring it to a good tailor and he will make it look good. If anyone is in the Hoboken area PM me and I can recommend a great tailor.

Keep telling yourself that.

They almost got me in there last weekend with the "Buy 1 suit, get 3 suits free" deal.

I'm holding out for eight free suits and a couple of belts.

I bought one of their $129 polos when it was "on sale" for $17.99

The quality was on par with what you'd find at Sears.

Their clothes just don't fit well. But I use their shoe trees and a cedar belt hanger, and I have a few ties that aren't bad for $20-30.

Their suits are typically crap. I've tried them many times in recent years. That said, I've gotten a couple of suits there that were dynamite and lasted some time. I've probably had a 10% success rate there.

So far I'm much happier with the suits I got recently from Charles Tyrwhitt at 399 a pop. Awesome value.

Well I'm normally trying to get investors to fork over a few million bucks when I'm suited up, so I cannot look like a schlub.

Charles Tyrwhitt

Best suit I've bought in a while. The slim fit pants are SLIM, beware. I went slim jacket, regular pants. Mostly because I pack a giant rooster.

how to the JAB traveller shirts compare with the CT?

I'm getting frustrated with CT never having my size in the colors I want

I have 8 suits in my current rotation, and a couple of the older ones are JAB purchases. They look decent and I haven't had any quality issues with them. Of course, they don't come with all the bells and whistles (full lining in particular), but they are absolutely serviceable suits.
These are no longer in my rotation.

As an alternative, I'd consider getting the Nordstrom Smartcare shirts. The basic ones are $49.50, but they are cheaper during the men's sale.

I ended up getting two Nordstrom suits, three shirts and three ties. I get compliments and they fit nicely. Although, one fits better than the other; better tailor on the first one who barely spoke English.

I found a couple of JAB traveller shirts on clearance at a local store last week. While I like having the forearm button on the JAB, the material quality doesn't seem as good as CT and the JAB is a little on the short side. If I was wearing it untucked, it would be perfect and I didn't have any issues with it coming untucked, but still made me a little uncomfortable worrying about it.
