Joseph Addai big game week 1? (1 Viewer)

With Peyton Mannings neck injury do you think Joseph Addai will have a big game? I for one think Kerry Collins will play like #### and theyll just keep feeding the ball to addai against a weak Houston Defense...

discuss.

The Colts couldn't run the ball with Manning. Do you think their opponents will respect their passing game?

Manning depended a lot on Addai for pass blocking and Collens is going to need him even more, but I can also see Addai getting more dump off passes than he has in the past too. Addai might actually be a decent RB2/3 start in ppr leagues, but I don't believe he's going to have many yards on the ground. If he does score, I would almost bet it would be through the air rather than on the ground. I think Carter might end up being a goal line vulture here.

i question how you think he wont do good at all....
Because he's just not very good. He had trouble even WITH Manning keeping defenses more than honest.
 2006 he was top 12.2007 he was top 5.2009 he was top 10.2008 and 2010 he dealt with injuries. He was a RB1 3 of his 5 years. Just not very good?
Yes, Addai was very good FF wise for 3 of the last 5 years. Which is why I thought I was getting a bargain with him as my RB3/flex in two leagues. But here's the problem. Most of his success comes from finding the endzone and catching the ball. I think both of those suffer tremendously with Collins at the helm instead of Manning. Some believe that Collins will look to Addai often out of the backfield but the Kerry Collins I watched the last few years has been HORRIBLE at checking down. There is a reason CJ2K went from averaging over 10 ypr with Young taking the majority of snaps in 09' to 5.6 ypr with Collins in 10'.And obviously without Manning the Colts are gonna move the ball less and be in position to score less. In the 3 years where Addai has been an RB1 he's averaged 12 TDs a season. That number is likely to fall significantly without Manning.Addai's skill set fits very well in a Manning run Colts offense and he has had FF success because of it. But the argument could be made that he is a marginal talent (or just not very good) and his skill set may not translate to success in another situation. He now finds himself in a different situation and I don't think he or the Colts overall are going to fair very well.

If there is less concern about pass blocking for the franchise QB, does this open the door for Carter to have a larger share of carries?

I think Addai will get plenty of touches. I just don't think he'll do anything noteworthy with them.
Unless INDY revamps their entire rushing offense, the running game will suck all year. It's completely dependent on the pass game working. And their OL is not a good run blocking line. It looks ugly to me.

Sometimes numbers lie.Addai is a good back in a great situation. He doesn't create on his own, but rather benefits from being on the field often for Indy - as Peyton's top RB. With Peyton out and teams now not defending pass first, second and third - run opportunities for him will drop significantly.

I'm wondering whether the Indy staff would consider moving Addai to a 3rd down RB role & having Carter be the lead ball carrier....

No one knows what Indy's offensive line is going to look like, because they have 4 new starters from last year. They've also beefed up since Howard Mudd left, leaving behind the old narrow waisted athletic agile footed finesse pass blocking "Dylan Gandy" types for guys like 6'7" 320 Joe Reitz. The Colts offense as a whole is going to undoubtedly suffer without Peyton, but a part of me wonders if the running game won't improve just because they'll be able to escape from Peyton's shadow and establish their own identity. Power running is as much about philosophy and mindset as anything. It can't be good for a power running mindset when the offensive linemen have to sit in their stances for 20 seconds waiting while Peyton is changing the play 3 times at the line of scrimmage. Maybe with Peyton out they're just going to keep thing simple by calling the play in the huddle, line up and fire off the ball.

All in all, I really don't know what expect from the Colts running game. No one does. It's completely uncharted water in a variety of areas. If I were an Addai owner, I would sit him and just sit back and wait a week until you get a better lay of the land. It's week 1, most teams should be healthy and you should have candidates on your roster to fill in.

If it's close he could have a very good game. I'm not sure why everyone is expecting a blowout. Collins isn't a rookie. He can make good decisions and has plenty of receiving talent. Houston's improved on defense, but they didn't become the Steelers in the offseason. They're probably without their best runner as well.

They are the more talented team and they are at home. They should win. But this is a divisional game, and while they lost their best player the Colts can win the game. I think it will be pretty close and Addai will get plenty of chances.

Glad I didn't play Addai, though the argument was valid.

I wonder though if he's a strong week 2 play. Collins showed enough competence (barely) to present a passing game threat, and it's the Browns. I think 100yds and a TD are well within grasp for Addai.

I didn't see any of the game other than the Houston scoring plays on the RZ channel. Addai's YPC looked good, but it seems to me that they completely left the running game behind in trying to keep up. Can anyone comment?

since 2008 Addai has had 2 100+ yard rushing days and that was with Peyton. I think he's playable but I wouldn't say he's a strong play at all. Personally, I was bigtime down on Indy after Manning went down and I think I may have underestimated his importance. The Brown's may run it up on the Colts this weekend like Houston did. Hell, the one thing the Browns can do is run and Indy can't stop anyone....actually this post just made me think that Hardesty may be a sneaky start as a #2 flex this week.
