Josh Cribbs gets some practice time under center (1 Viewer)

There have been a couple of trick plays with Cribbs before, but they are already practicing a whole package with Cribbs under center in camp this year. He was a QB in College and has a strong arm. That might make him a little more valuable in leagues where he'd already be drafted as a return guy. It may also be a sign that the Browns may pull out all the stops against Dallas in week 1.

Why not have him throw the ball? He has shown he is a liability catching it.

I love Cribbs as a return man. He might get a chance to contribute on a few gimmack plays.

Awww crap...There goes Quinn's value. Seriously, what r the Browns thinking?
It just gives the other teams something else to worry about and prepare for. Cribbs is well suited for an occasional slash type role. Especially late in the game! Given the offensive line of the Browns, it would make sense to put a guy in that's a threat to score every time he touches the ball after a tired defense starts taking shortcuts because they don't believe a slow-footed QB can beat them outside. If they cheat up to defend him, he has the arm to go deep on them.

or just blow the game with a dumb read. A play or two would be fine. A whole package is overboard.

It would be nice to see something a little different this year. It was just Edwards-Winslow-Jurevicius most of the time last season. They were 30th in percentage of plays with 3 out wide last year, including all the times Winslow was out there. And I really don't recall many trick plays. Cribbs could give them another element for defenses to think and worry about.

I think a play or 2 is what is gonna happen most games. I think they have a whole package to make sure it's not the same play or 2 every game. Maybe they might get to the point where he runs a few consecutive plays in a series, but I can't see much more than that.

There ya go, I was screaming for this all last season, kept thinking 'today's the day we see Cribbs on a trick play' but those days never came. Glad to see they're building an arsenal. Watched Cribbs play a lot on school, he's not the greatest QB in the world but in a gimmick mold can get the job done. Don't know how I feel about him under center though, it'd have to be some sort of bootleg. I'd much prefer him on an end around option run/pass.

Didn't the Dolphins do this with McDuffie during preseason years ago and then never use it all season?

If the Browns were really going to use this I doubt it would show up in an open practice.

I think part of the benefit of this is the opposing D wasting time(or is it?) worrying/game planning for it, so it would have to be in an open practice to get the word out. With several former college QBs in the league, I think alot of teams toy around with these ideas in preseason. Jets do with Brad Smith. Seneca seems to be a fascination of the Seahawks yet their fans always want more of him. One other thing is there's something stale about playing the same O everyday and putting in a new QB can liven things up even if it's just for a few plays.Sidenote-different but...Ingle Martin kicked and punted the other day due to a couple minor injuries
