Josh Freeman's Dynasty Value Hinges on this (1 Viewer)

I just traded away Joe Flacco for Josh Freeman in a Dynasty trade. May have been a dumb move but who knows.

So out of the potential coaches they have it narrowed down to

Schottenheimer, Phillips, Childress and Mike Sherman.

Which Coach do you think could help Freeman move forward as a better QB and develop better as a Player??

Just curious on the Shark Pools thoughts on him. I think Freeman rebounds next year. But I'll be honest I'm not excited about any of the Coaching options really. I wish we could get the OC for Panthers to come Head Coach Tampa. But I doubt that happens.

I'd prefer Sherman to be honest. I that offense was pretty good with him there. His acumen as a talent evaluator was sorely lacking as far as skill position went. But he was solid as an x's and o's guy. Childress lost his locker room when Favre showed up. I'd imagine he'll make sure that doesn't happen but lets face it, this Bucs team was about the most immature team in the NFL last season and it just didn't work. They need a strong hand.

Sherman is a good coach. He gave Favre a little too much slack, but by the time Sherman got there, Favre had already won 3 MVPs. His teams leaned a little heavier on the run that the other Packer teams over the last 20 years. However, they did have Ahman Green in his prime too.

I'd like to see them higher an up and comer. Like Sean Payton was before he was the HC for the Saints. Or like Mike McCarthy was before he became a HC. There has to be a few of those.

Jay Gruden is probably that guy but he declined the Jags chance to coach maybe. Not sure they where hiring anyways but he was on a short list. Maybe Joe Philbin or Tom Clements. Rob Chudzinski seems to be getting attention also

I did the exact same thing before the season started. :wall: Painful year but I'm hoping for a bounceback.

I really really hope it's not Childress, guy is turrible as a HC.

Thought this was interesting

There are only two active coaches most consider ready to lead a team and whom have the pedigree to prove it. Mike Zimmer and Joe Philbin have the numbers, experience, and Playoff/Super Bowl credentials which put them at the top of most lists. Both candidates have interviewed with the Buccaneers and recent news puts the Buccaneers in a must act now position. I have been touting my stance on the Buccaneers need to act and the perils of not doing so. While I would love to be proven wrong, recent news dictates otherwise.

THE BAD NEWS: The Miami Dolphins have narrowed their list to three candidates, one of them Joe Philbin. They have already asked for a second interview and Philbin is no doubt at the top of that list. What he would be able to do with the Buccaneers current offensive roster is limitless. Josh Freeman, Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn would have the potential to become the Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, and Greg Jennings of the NFC south. Unless Miami passes on him, the Bucs have missed their opportunity for one of the premiere offensive minds in the league. He is exactly what this offense needs.

THE GOOD NEWS: Mike Zimmer was apparently “too blunt” for the Miami Dolphins and they have taken his name out of consideration. That “bluntness” would come in handy for a locker room used to hearing “stats are for losers”. The Buccaneers are expected to call Zimmer back for a second interview and unless Philbin is still available, they should offer him a job on the spot. Zimmer is one of the best defensive coordinators in the league, taking the 2007 Bengals defense from 27th in total yards allowed to 12th in his first season. This season saw the injury riddled Bengals defense finish 7th in total yards allowed, 9th in points allowed, 10th against the run and 9th against the pass. He is exactly what this defense needs.

With either selection, the Buccaneers address one side of the ball. There are plenty of names out there which would make great coordinators but not head coaches. Zimmer and Philbin should be at the top of the Buccaneers list and that list could be one deep by the end of the week.

Freeman still doesn't have an OC. I hope Schiano is just taking a long time to make sure he gets one that will really help Freeman take the next step. I don't see why they don't just get Hue Jackson. I think he would do alright as OC.

Recent news on the matter below... Shoop, Turner, Cignetti mentioned.Buccaneers Offense - TM - BuccaneersThe Bucs will reportedly interview North Carolina OC John Shoop for their offensive coordinator job.Shoop has plenty of NFL experience, serving as QBs coach and coordinator for the Raiders and Bears early last decade. He joins ex-Bears OC Ron Turner as candidates to join Greg Schiano's staff. After being turned down three times, the only name known to be on the Bucs' list is former Bears coordinator Ron Turner.Source: Charlottesville Daily ProgressFeb 8 - 9:03 AMBuccaneers Offense - TM - BuccaneersThe Bucs are reportedly interested in former Bears OC Ron Turner and University of Virginia OC Bill Lazor for the offensive coordinator position in Tampa.New coach Greg Schiano is defensive-minded, so the coordinator will be charged with overseeing the continued development of Josh Freeman. Turner's history was mixed in Chicago, as Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton often held back a strong defense and special teams. Schiano has been blocked from interviewing Packers TEs coach Ben McAdoo and Cardinals WRs coach John McNulty for the job.Source: FOXSports.comFeb 7 - 2:06 PMBuccaneers Offense - TM - BuccaneersRutgers coordinator/QBs coach Frank Cignetti is considered a "name to watch" in the Bucs' search for an offensive boss.Cignetti was the Scarlet Knights' replacement for John McNulty, who was blocked from interviewing with Tampa Bay by the Cardinals. Cignetti's last appearance in the NFL was as QBs coach of the 49ers in 2007. He's said to have a philosophy on par with new Bucs coach Greg Schiano, who oversaw offenses with more rush attempts than passes nine times at Rutgers.Source: St. Petersburg TimesFeb 1 - 12:01 PM

I don't like the direction this is going. I'm tempted to trade Josh Freeman and Mark Ingram to get the no 3 overall pick and get Andrew Luck or RG3. Whichever falls to me. Man I hate doing that too.

Bucs offense is average and their defense is abysmal. In that division, that's a recipe for last place in the division next year. They have a RB who can do some damage when he gets going and a couple young WRs who look good, though Williams needs to cure the drops he had this year. The o-line is good, but not great. Freeman regressed this year and has to progress if the offense is going to take the next step. But a lot of it hinges on whether the d will get better. If that d stinks again and this o has to keep playing from behind, it doesn't play to their strengths at all. They're not built to win shoot-outs.

I agree on most but you say Williams needs to cure the drops? lol you sure you didn't mean our high priced TE who seemed to either go the wrong way or drop the ball? I personally think Freeman should have been forcing the ball to Williams not Winslow.

Williams' partying every night probably contributed to his lack of separation which caused Freeman to force ball to Winslow and Parker for a time since none of his WR's could get open. They need a WR that can take the top off a D like Desean Jackson, then Freeman will be fine and the field will open up. You don't throw 25 TD's and 6 picks during your 1st season starting in the NFL by accident.I'm buying on Freeman at this price.

Williams had a 52% catch rate this year, according to the stats page I checked. If that is correct, then I think my point stands. Winslow is overrated imo and not worth what the Bucs pay him. I wouldn't grieve if they parted ways with him.

Provided they have a backup plan I would love to see the Bucs part ways with Winslow. He showed up Freeman more than once this past season. Definitely not a fan of that.

From what I read, Mike Sullivan's passing offense is downfield, not intermediate like the last few years in Tampa. He also had something to do with getting rid of Shockey in NY. I wouldn't be surprised to see Winslow move along.
