Josh Gordon - August 1, 2016 (1 Viewer)

If Gordon is traded to New England, I am trying to move him like crazy before he fails his next test.
Came here to post exactly this.  Someone's gonna bite and as cheap as I got him I'd love to turn a quick profit and wash my hands of his dumb ###.  My intention was always to flip him, the denial threw a wrench in the expected return value but NE could recover that quickly.

Can we just leave this at the bottom of the pool until there is some actual news?  Thx.
Clearly you don't understand the point of this thread, which isn't for Gordon new, silly.  It's for needling Soulfly3.  Yeesh.  You just have to spell things out for some people I guess. :)

A trade to New England is a pipe dream. Not even the Pats will touch this box of rocks.
I disagree.  Not much downside to bringing him in for a late round pick, signing him to a deal with no guarantees,  and just cutting him at the first sign of idiocy.

Sort of the same logic as to why the Browns should just keep him for now, except they simply might not want him around any more.

They brought in a uber-talented Randy Moss at one time but I think the criticism of Moss' behavior far exceeded the reality.

Gordon is deeply troubled.  Didn't they just move Chandler Jones out of town because of a synthetic weed incident?  I think gordon might be toxic to everyone, including WR challenged NE.

Toxic?  Ok, as soon as there is any sniff of that, cut him.

And as for being "deeply troubled", let's relax on that just a bit.  I am willing to wager a lot of money that hundreds of NON suspended players in the league have been both drinking and toking much more than Gordon has for the past 3 years.  Yeah, the guy is a moron, but he is no Blackmon here.  He is actually still in the league and has passed one hell of a lot of drug tests that those hundreds of other players would NOT have passed at those times.

No chance.  After Hernandez, it won't happen.

Josh Gordon: Will Any NFL Team Risk Him?

https://nflmocks.com/2016/05/11/josh-gordon-will-any-nfl-team-risk-him/

There was a time when the Cleveland Browns clinged to the hope that Josh Gordon would return.  Not anymore.

The former All-Pro who led the NFL in receiving in 2013 hopes to get reinstated by the league after earning a year-long suspension for repeated violations of the substance abuse policy.  His first opportunity was lost when another test came back positive for marijuana, but he will have one last shot before the season starts.

Not that it matters to the Browns any longer.  According to ESPN and other top sources, it seems like his days are numbered in Cleveland.

“The Browns took an armada of receivers in the draft. The four drafted receivers match the most in a draft in team history (the Browns took four in 1966, per drafthistory.com). Though another talented player is always welcome, drafting four players at one position sure seems to indicate the team is moving on.

More important, another not-so-subtle policy shift (for lack of a better term) by the team also seems to indicate that Gordon’s behavior and actions do not mesh with the way the Browns want to operate in the Sashi Brown-Paul DePodesta-Hue Jackson era.”

Not surprising given what happened with Gordon and then Johnny Manziel.  This team needs a fresh start and the best way to get is by what they’ve been doing:  cutting ties with any and all players who were distractions.

If this happens, the interesting question then becomes what will the NFL do about Gordon?  He is only 25-years old with no injury history.  Aside from obvious rust not playing for over a year, he would look like a tantalizing target for teams who might be willing to gamble that he can still clean up his act.

Here are some clubs to watch carefully.

Cincinnati Bengals

Few teams have shown a greater willingness to take a chance on players with ugly backgrounds than the Cincinnati Bengals.  It has rewarded them in the past (though it came back to haunt them in the playoffs).  After losing both Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu to free agency, their receiving position has thinned somewhat.  Taking a gamble to pair Gordon with A.J. Green might be too good to pass up.

Arizona Cardinals

Bruce Arians is another head coach who doesn’t mind players with red flags.  He’s a big believer in second chances.  Just look at some of the names they’ve brought on:  Tyrann Mathieu, Chandler Jones and Robert Nkemdiche.  All have had some unfortunate mishaps off the field but the Arizona Cardinals believe their culture can help such players thrive.  With Larry Fitzgerald aging, the need for a young body at wide receiver might push them towards Gordon.

Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones is a gambler.  That has been proven through his tenure as owner and GM of the Dallas Cowboys.  From the Charles Haley trade to the signing of Greg Hardy, he isn’t afraid to weigh the risks on personality problems if it can help his team win.  Gordon might be viewed as just another talented player with drug problems but then again, in Jones’ eyes, so was Michael Irvin.  How can they ignore the idea of pairing Gordon and Dez Bryant?

So he isn't as bad as the worst the league had to offer?  Why don't we relax on that a bit.  When you're suspended from the game numerous times at the collegiate and pro level and you can't stay off a substance, you are deeply troubled.

I'm sure it's probably already been said in here, but I still will never understand how a player can get banned a full year (and have to jump through 1000 hoops) to get reinstated for smoking something that is legal in several states (and will be in all eventually) or drinking (yes I know DUIs are bad).  Yet, Greg Hardy can beat the #### out of his girlfriend and get 4 games.  So unbelievably backwards.

ETA: Pot and alcohol should be something policed by individual teams.  Not the NFL IMO.

I understand the "Law is the law" argument that people trot out but just because something is a law doesn't make it good or right.

I think within five years marijuana will become a sanctioned chronic pain management alternative in the NFL.

nope.

dez is playing, gordon is not. no one is deflecting anything.

come august, and if the reinstatement doesnt happen, it'll be deflection city

What are you expecting to happen August 1? All the league indicated is that Gordon can ask to be reinstated on 8/1. From there, they start their consideration and evaluation process all over again. If the league is inclined to reinstate him, it could take months and months before they do so.

It's when he'll start his deflectiongasm all over again.

I thoroughly enjoy how it HAS to be that the league will take months and months to make the decision.

It's every bit as likely they make it in 2-3 weeks, as it is 2-3 months. They wanted to see CLEAN samples. End of story.

Please supply even one time when the league took even 60 days to reinstate a player. I'll wait.

It is clear as day that Gordon has an issue with substances banned by the league. He may be able to mask it for a while, but no sane person is fooled. He may be reinstated, he may not- but the ultimate trajectory of his career is very clear- an uber talented athlete with a career ultimately derailed by substance abuse. I would not buy his stock- period.

Just waiting for the opportunity to dump this clown. Fooled me for the last time. At some point you realize that you can't change a ##### into a housewife.

This will be my last post in this thread. I only comment on players I own or hate. Josh Gordon is neither to me now. Just moved him and a 2019 2nd round pick for a 2017 1st. Good riddance. He is someone else's headache now. Don't even care if he blows up at this point.

Well done.

The Browns released Brian Hartline today.  Should free up the roster spot needed for Gordon upon his reinstatement....
