Not that this is relevant to this discussion at all but, haven't there been a number of players that have actually killed another human being while driving drunk.....yet were still able to resume their NFL careers?

Of course I disagree with the rules the way they are, and the vague way they are allowed to carry out punishments.  The rule is "you are suspended until we see fit".   Leaves way too much room for them to screw with players just because they don't like them.  "indefinite'????  So lame, just pick a damn punishment and stick to it. 

How many NBA and MLB players you see getting popped for weed and/or alcohol??  Seems they are doing it right. 

The NFL is the toughest league there is.  Guys are basically in a car accident every play, yet they are treated like children.  Lebron can smoke a doobie in the pregame interview and nothing would happen.

Then they should have negotiated for different rules in the CBA?  Also, for the underlined secion - lets not pretend that's the punishment for just any player.  It's the punishment for the guy who's screwed up at least 3 times, that we know of.

If his sample was diluted, and the league is giving him 3 months to get right, that's a pretty big sign that the league wants to reinstate him.  

The notion that the league was out to get him was always really, really stupid.

Nah. It's more in response to the idiots here who can't admit the guy is a knucklehead. Personally, I couldn't care less if Gordon prefers being a stoner over being a football player. But when trolls post here 20 times a day pretending that he's a victim of Goodell and his dictatorship, it's fun to laugh at them when their idol proves, once again, to be a moron.  That's the danger of trolling. It's a two way street.

I gotta admit I am ignorant to the CBA and how this all will work now that they changed it a couple years ago, but how could he test "positive" again (under the rules re diluted samples) and not be suspended again?  Does Schefter's tweet mean they reinstate him, just to suspend him again?

Honestly, I am really confused on how he is not suspended "at all" if he tested "positive" under the leagues rules/policies given his multiple "positive" tests in the past and the ratcheting up of penalties per the league rules.  Does anyone know how this interplay works regarding this latest report?   :hey:

Well, the test was diluted, which counts as a positive, but the league might be giving him a mulligan here.  

Trace amounts of weed, but not enough for a positive test.  Really, tho, if there are trace amounts of weed in his sytem, i means he is still smoking, but is covering his tracks.  So, good news if he gets reinstated, but I would like to know if his testing is still more often than other players.  If so, it's probably a matter of time until he gets popped again.  

 
60-90 days with no 'red flags'.... if you can't go 60-90 days without any red flags for millions from playing football you have failed at life.

I can't believe that attempting to 'fool' the NFL's testing process is considered a positive for Gordon.  The league has always had a system (for any infraction) where the penalty got stiffer each time the rule was broken. Noit sure how Gordon can get an entire year's suspension, get busted smoking weed again, and it only be 60-90 days this time. Something isn't adding up.

I read somewhere that he could be tested up to 10 times a month. It looks like he has had one failed test. Who knows, maybe he was around a group smoking weed, panicked and ingested the dilution agent. Granted, he should never put himself in that situation, but that could be what happened. So he may be fine for another three-months. If he is not using and this was all an "accident".

I sure haven't heard of anything like this happening before.  Might be a move to avoid more litigation.  

''You have a diluted test.  We are going to call in inconclusive, instead of positive.  You have three months, and if we see another diluted test, you're not getting reinstated.''

I agree. Although, it's funny how whenever someone breaks a rule, the punishment is different every time (not necessarily speaking for Gordan's situation). Someone can get in trouble for smoking weed the first time and get suspended 2 games. Another player gets suspended for the first time and they're suspended for 5. There needs to be set punishments for each infraction. The NFL's "punishment" system is entirely too flawed, and Goodell is a joke.

That would be well and good until you ordered some thai chicken and it turned out to have been cooked in beef fat.  Then the mocha ice cream at your nephew's birthday party.  Now you have a low threshold detection of "beef products and coffee derivatives" that triggers a positive test, and you're calling a press conference to try to explain your upcoming suspension...

Yeah, or maybe he just got lazy with his piss-cleaning regimen.  

At this point, giving Josh the benefit of the doubt is really, really silly.

Which is about the same as your girl believing you tripped over the bed, and your P landed in that girl's V.

I get that...we just dont know HOW far below the treshold he was, nor am I enough of an expert to know what other substances might trigger the test the same way.  Any chemists in the audience?

He might be able to stay clean for 60-90 days and maybe he gets reinstated then but I'd say the chances are very high that he fails another test after that and is then done.

The word is there was trace amounts of weed in the system, and diluted sample.  

That combo is very common.  Among weed smokers that dilute their sample to beat the test.  Let's not make this hard.

Lol. Exactly. We've all been saying it for the last month. Why would you put yourself around Manziel and his cast of losers and druggies? Even if Gordon picked up second-hand smoke, it's nobody's fault but his own.

The 99.8% of the NFL players that behave within the league's acceptable guidelines might take issue with your characterization of them.

 
Isn't it kind of obvious that Josh Gordon is addicted?  He probably knows deep down that he shouldn't get into trouble and shouldn't be around pot, but he probably doesn't have the will power to stop himself.  If he's gone through a year and a half out of the league and knows that one more slip up means he could be done forever, and yet he screws up 1 month shy of being reinstated?  In my eyes that shows that he can't help himself.  60-90 days clean?  Send him to 3 months of rehab and his reinstatement is guaranteed.  Why risk it?

Not necessarily, and it depends on how much was in the sample and where their threshold is.  I sell life insurance for a living, and part of the application process is a blood/urine profile to see how much nicotine is present, if any.  You can easily have a "positive" test for it if you hang out in bars (I mean, there are numerous studies about the effects of "second hand" smoke).  I've had it happen on more than one occasion.

I don't buy, for a second, that the NFL has any intention of reinstating Josh Gordon 60-90 days with no red-flag tests or not.  The guy needed to have zero no red-flag tests for the length of his suspension and not show poor judgement by hanging around with known enablers like Johnny Manziel.  The dude is done.  Accept it.

 
Not sure how you can get rid of other people's posts in a quote, as I hit quote by accident.

In any event, the league will publicly say they will continue to monitor and investigate Gordon's request for reinstatement. But they will continue to slow play things. If they do give him an opportunity to stay on the straight and narrow for whatever time frame they come up with, I suspect they will restart their investigation after that time. That way, they can force him to miss real games at the beginning of the season without announcing another suspension. My Spidey sense tells me that could equate to missing another 4-6 games if things are as they appear currently (maybe a couple games longer if they are worse). So at this point, I would guess Gordon will be available to play the second half of this season (provided he doesn't do anything stupid (which is a crap shoot to begin with).

Schef knew there was WAY more going on, hence he kept his mouth shut. There was NO way in hell he did that Hardy interview without getting ALL the scoop from Rosenhais

You mean like this?

DUI discipline: The league is becoming stricter on this topic. Where previous first-time offenders were generally let off without a suspension, the new policy calls for a two-game ban for a first violation. Second violation will draw an eight-game suspension. Aggravating circumstances can lengthen the suspension in either case.

PED discipline: First-time offenders can be suspended four games for using a banned substance (including HGH). Any attempt to cover up results of a test (a masking agent, for instance) gets a six-game ban.

Marijuana threshold: The NFL is ramping down it's stance on marijuana use. The threshold for a positive test has been increased from 15 ng/ml to 35 ng/ml.

Marijuana discipline: The punishment for a positive test is also changing. As is the case now, a first-time offense lands the player in the substance abuse program without a suspension. The primary difference is the punishment for a second positive test: simply a two-game fine. Each additional violation receives the following progressive discipline: four-game fine, four-game suspension, 10-game suspension. A player can therefore test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended.

Huh? No. I'm saying exactly what I was questioning, was what was happening. Schef knew something more than the other guys - all because of taking a deepthroat from Rosenhaus w that Hardy interview.. Hence why he kept his mouth shut yesterday

I absolutely hate Schefter. With a passion. But he knows what's going on
