Josh Hamilton's throw yesterday... (1 Viewer)

How many junkies stay clean? I hope the kid makes it, but I wouldn't bet on it. And I don't think his skills were ever the problem.

the saying goes, "once a junkie, always a junkie".

i like some of the steps he is taking to remain clean. he never carries cash, and his wife pretty much drives him anywhere he has to go.

i suppose there will be some dealers out their hunting this guy down on road trips, but i sure hope the organization takes the steps to protect him from outside influences when he is on the road.

This guy's upside is so high, it's unbelievable.
it's been for 7 years now. wake me when it happens.
You get paged to the red courtesy phone and this is all we get?
:o guy has tremendous talent, no doubt. I would think he'll be held back this year as he has to stay on the big club and there's just no way he's ready to hit MLB-caliber pitching yet. he should be in single or double-a and allowed to work his way up, but the rule V rules won't permit it. he'll either not get enough at-bats (and at-bats are what he desperately needs) or he'll get plenty of them which you'd have to think he's not ready to handle. he only had a handful of ABs in low-A ball last year, which was his first stint of any kind in 3-4 years. maybe I'll be wrong and he's just a prodigy who can slug at any level, but he needs at least another 1000 at-bats in the minors, IMO. and that's not even getting into the whole drug thing.as for the rays, they have crawford, rocco, young, upton and dukes all fighting for playing time. it sucks, but they just had no room for hamilton any longer.

easy there feddie. Dewon Brazelton looked like Cy Young in Spring Training last year and imploded once the season started.

I played HS ball against Josh. He pitched in HS and I have to tell you he threw ####### pellets. Unbelievable.

He was(i use was because I have no idea who he is now) one of the nicest people you would ever meet.

I hope he makes this time around. He seems to have his head screwed on straight this time.

I am certainy pulling for him.

This is what I read as well. His family used to travel with him back in the early days with Tampa but eventually they stopped. Then he got hurt, was there without his family, started hanging out "with the wrong crowd", began boozing and getting high...repeat. Hope the guy makes it. I don't worry about the talent but the chance of a relapse is really high. No pun intended either.

To a point, I agree with you Cappy. I also understand that ST is small sample size etc. But it's not just his hitting at over a .400 clip. It's his awareness at the plate that has me stunned. The guy has not played pro ball, essentially, in 4 years, yet he's been on base either thru hits or BB's almost every single game. Most of which was vs LHP. I suspect that he's going to get plenty of AB's this year and even just as a defensive replacement, his range/arm/wheels are a huge + in the OF.I am not saying he's an allstar, yet. I am just shocked at what he has shown thus far. Again, I understand that it's ST, but strike zone awareness, plate disciplne are not something that you need ST for. Either you have it, or you don't.I, for one, am quite excited about him being a Red.

Wow. Imagine if he kept that throw down a little or even one-hopped it. Unreal.

I'd honestly give my right nut for that left arm.

His family did travel with him everywhere. He used a good portion of his signing bonus to buy to large plots of land in North Carolna. One was for his parents and the other was for him. He built his parents house for them. I would see him out on his piece of land chopping wood. he just kept getting stranger and strager. the tatoos were nuts. I heard that his parents had to sell off the house he build them because they could not longer afford it once he was suspended. He went through all his money on drugs and booze. Terribly sad story.

:goodposting:

I've seen Jesse Barfield throw it from the corner of right field in Yankee Stadium and throw out runners at 3rd.

And he didn't do no Coke
