JSTEW to start season on the PUP. CONFIRMED (update) (1 Viewer)

Suprised that there isn't much interest in Barner here, he came on as the 2nd RB behind DW and played w Cam and the 1st team offense in the 3rd preseason game through the 1st half (until he left w an apparent ankle injury). He's looked pretty good w the ball in his hands in limited opportunities.

Perhaps it's the lack of info/hype on rotoworld? I noticed this year more so than in years past that RW has more or less set/destroyed the value of certain players in the draft.

It is an odd situation as other than maybe Tolbert, nobody has any love for any of the Panther running backs. There will be value there somewhere. Maybe not as a weekly starter, but there is useful fantasy value.

Anyone already successfully cash in their Williams ticket on an owner who fell short of RBs in the draft?
I doubt you will get much value, Williams has burned so many people in fantasy that most people are down on him.
Put me on that list. With Stewart out, DeAngelo should do well. Should. I just refuse to get burned by that coaching staff again.

I floated a trade out to the JStew owner (who is short on RBs) and his response was, "Williams sucks." Ummm...you drafted Stewart. Who sucks?
Haha, so true.

DWILL is going in the 10th and 11th rounds in a 12 team redraft. That probably holds the best value if that stands. If given the opportunity Dwill can produce rb2 numbers easily and it wouldnt surprise me for him to sneak into the top 15 if Stewart doesnt fully recover. From all accounts Shula (panthers OC) is committing to the run this year.
Grabbed him in the 10th in my 10 team league. Excited to see what he's capable of when running out of a base running package!
I got him cheap as well.

Tolbert might not start the season either. Hamstring.

Panthers FB Mike Tolbert promises the team will take a more run-heavy approach under new offensive playcaller Mike Shula.
The Panthers ran a "deception" offense for the first half of 2012, basing their entire formula on shotgun plays and read-option. The offense took off in the second half when more base runs were incorporated, and Carolina won four of its final six games including a 30-20 victory over Atlanta in Week 14. "I can't wait," said Tolbert. "In the running back room, we rejoiced when (Shula) said we're going to run the ball. That's one thing we're gonna do."

(08/23/13) Panthers running back Mike Tolbert did not suit up for the third preseason game in a row Thursday against the Ravens, as he continues to be bothered by a hamstring injury.Tolbert has yet to appear in the preseason, and has been unable to practice as a result of the injury. The Panthers have just one preseason game remaining Aug. 29 against the Steelers, and it is not clear if Tolbert will be available.

Sounds like a vet camp/preseason injury

Rotoworld has said stuff..

Panthers rookie RB Kenjon Barner has "turned heads among his teammates" in training camp practices.
With Jonathan Stewart (ankles) still on the shelf, Barner will back up DeAngelo Williams in Friday's preseason opener. "The biggest thing really is the diversity in what he does as a football player," coach Ron Rivera said. "He’s got a great feel for the passing game. He does a nice job in terms of getting out into his routes. He does create some mismatches." Barner could also contribute on returns. For now, he's off the redraft radar, but that could change if Williams' health goes the way of Stewart's. Barner is a Dynasty-league prospect.
Rookie RB Kenjon Barner rushed nine times for 37 yards and a touchdown, and caught two passes for 17 yards in Carolina's preseason opener.
Barner rebounded from losing a fumble on his first touch with solid, explosive running and all-purpose play. He's obviously got kinks to work out, but Barner has some deep-sleeper appeal this year due to Jonathan Stewart's ongoing ankle woes. DeAngelo Williams looks ticketed for the Week 1 starting job
Panthers sixth-round RB Kenjon Barner has been getting increased reps.
Jonathan Stewart (ankles) is a real candidate for reserve/PUP, costing him the first six games. That would leave DeAngelo Williams as a workhorse, with Barner and Mike Tolbert in specialist roles. Through two preseason games, Barner has rushed 15 times for 42 yards (2.8 YPC) and caught three passes for 16 yards. Extreme deep leaguers can put the speed back on their radar.
Here's the obligatory highlight video.

Here's how bleachereport feels about the situation.

IMO, he looks like and has the measurables of a COP back but I could be wrong.

Anyone already successfully cash in their Williams ticket on an owner who fell short of RBs in the draft?
I doubt you will get much value, Williams has burned so many people in fantasy that most people are down on him.
That's my impression.
I floated a trade out to the JStew owner (who is short on RBs) and his response was, "Williams sucks." Ummm...you drafted Stewart. Who sucks?
I'll bite. What did you offer?

It's tough to offer trades with draft bargains. Most people can't see past recent seasons or what round the player was drafted in until a few weeks in. That is, if the player is having productive weeks.

DeAngelo/Garcon for Larry Fitzgerald. I didn't expect him to take it, but floating it out there to see if he would counter or had any interest. He took way too many WRs and not enough RBs, his team has some issues.

That's not that bad.

True, but if the guy really did draft a bunch of WRs and is short on RBs then it wouldn't make sense for him as it would probably leave Garcon sitting on his bench. He'd be better off trading a top WR straight up for a RB much better than DeAngelo.

I agree, but I was just looking to see if he agreed. Or if instead of Fitz, he would come back with someone else. That said, if we did trade, Garcon would still be his #3 WR on most weeks and he has Amendola who could miss some time over the year.

That looks reasonable to me, although trading off a guy like Fitz who never misses time for Garcon who missed most of last year makes it pretty easy to turn down/hard to accept from the other perspective.

Jonathan Stewart (ankles) may not be ready when he's eligible to come off the PUP list in Week 7.
Reporters have noticed Stewart "grimacing in pain even after a slight exertion." Writes columnist Scott Fowler, "Stewart may not play the whole year, either." It's clear Stewart isn't close to playing in a game, and there's no guarantee he'll be healed up in two months.

So dropable in redraft?

We're only alowed to carry four RBs, so there are some not completely horrible backs out there as free agents. I can afford the luxury of waiting for Steward (wouldn't have drafted him otherwise), since we can start 0 - 2 RBs and 2 - 4 WRs and I have two good backs and plenty WRs.
