June 1st cuts (1 Viewer)

For the Browns, it was gonna be McGinnest and Davis, but they restructured their deals. Ted Washington is probably gone, but that shouldn't be of interest to any team not looking for a d-line coach.

The June 1 cuts don't happen anymore.

I don't know why it changed, but the players' salaries can now be added to the next year even if they are cut before June 1. Last year was the first year this took place.

Maybe someone remembers more details than I do, but I am sure I am right.

It has to do with the new CBA, and the ability of teams to cut TWO players before June 1st, but designated them as post june 1st cuts. There are still june 1st cuts, they just aren't as numerous or noteworthy as they were a few years ago.

 This is correct. This was something that the NFL changed so teams can cut players in advance of June 1st, but get the same salary cap benefits as they did previously after June 1st. I think it was something they ironed out in their latest collective bargaining agreement.

That should be good for the player, more time to find a new team & helps teams find player before draft. My best guss :moneybag:

I think you'll get more discussion of you take the June 1 thing out of the discussion. June 1 hasn't meant anything for about 3 years. There's more cap room, and teams are better at managing the cap.

Maybe a discussion about players that may not make the roster, whether because of salary, or because a younger player takes his job.
