You need to do the road to Hana once if you havent done that before. The best way to do Hana is to drive one day making stops at all the sights in between and stay the night in Hana. Otherwise it feels rushed. Also make sure everyone is on the car rental agreement so you can take turns driving. Otherwise the driver gets screwed out of seeing anything.
Lahaina and Pa'ia are cute towns where the wife will like to shop.
In terms of food, Lahaina Grill is fantastic, Gazebo for breakfast (fried rice half order with mac nut pancakes), and Mama's Fish House will be the freshest fish you'll ever eat, although you do pay a lot for it. Local Boys Shave ice in Lahaina almost made me jizz too.
Edit: forgot to mention the luau we went to. It;s called Feast at LeLe and instead of a buffet, its full table service and much better food than typical luaus.

We rented a Maxima. My wife ran over a cat with it one night and it knocked the wheel well liner loose. I popped it back into place and am praying they dont charge us for any repairs.
Did not eat at a deli the whole time. Didnt really see any. Chipotle's either for the other guy who asked. I ate a lot of fish.

Chickweed: Kill, Control & Prevent It
Chickweed, also known as starwort, satin flower, and other names, is an annual that grows from seeds that sprout in the fall. It is found throughout North America most commonly as a lawn weed. In lawns, it rarely grows taller than 2 inches along the ground and forms a thick, dense mat that produces small, white flowers. Chickweed has a shallow root system and like most annual weeds it is best controlled in the spring or fall. Here's how.
Prevention and Maintenance
Chickweed in the Lawn
Treat chickweed in your lawn with a lawn weed control product. To kill weeds and feed your lawns at the same time, use a product such as Scotts® Turf Builder® Weed & Feed. If your lawn has warm-season grass, such as St. Augustine, Bermuda, centipede, or zoysia, use Scotts® Turf Builder® Bonus® S Southern Weed and Feed.
The best way to prevent future chickweed problems is to maintain a thick, healthy lawn. This is accomplished by feeding 4 times a year - two times in the spring and two times in the fall. A thick lawn will help prevent chickweed seeds from sprouting and seedlings from becoming established. Deep, infrequent watering will also help discourage chickweed since they prefer damp soil.
Stop Chickweed from Growing
In the fall, you can prevent chickweed seeds from germinating by applying Scotts® Halts® Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer. While Halts® will not harm most lawns, always check the label before use.

Yeah I heard this was great IF the weather cooperates. We choose not to do it because a) we'd have to wake up at 3 am on vacation for the sunriseand b) the weather reports for the top of the crater were not good.

A few times. Once at the Luau, a couple times in a sandwich from the poolside bar, and then in some fried rice as a side order one dinner.

Only been to Kauai and I liked it slightly better. Kauai is more lush and prettier in general, and has less people. I feel the hiking/ATVing/outdoor adventures are better on Kauai, but Maui hands down had better food. Also a LOT more kids/families on Maui. Kauai wins because its quieter and felt much more "remote". I dont like going on a tropical vacation and driving past Office Max's and JC Penneys, etc.

I've never even heard of this. I'm a believer of leaving a place the way you found it when it comes to outdoor places so I dont think I would've ever done this anyway.

I preferred Kauai for the same reasons. It's nice to be the only ##### on the island.

Roy’s- Kahana (there are two next to each other…..Nicolina’s is more formal- same menu)

Tropica- Kaanapali (at the westin) oceanside.
Hula Grill- Kaanapali (good place for lunch and app’s around sunset)
Mama’s fish House
Moose’s- in Lahaina. Good for happy hour….. $2.00 maitai’s,etc.
aloha mixed plate- GREAT Lunch place.... we prob hit it 3-4 times on our trips
maui tacos makes for a nice lunch as well

Activities:
Chocolate & champagne sunset cruise (scotch mist)- it’s on a small sailboat (holds about 8 instead of 80)
Scuba- there are some good sights near lanai. Hawaiian rafting adventures was very good. We’ve seen dolphins along the way…they let us get out and snorkel with them…also have seen whales on the ride over.
Snorkeling- you can go with a group (i used to like the catamaran booze cruises that had snorkeling). Some good spots if you just want to go on your own: Honolua Bay, black rock, and mile marker 14.
Kayaking
luau- feast of lele is pretty good
Haleakula- sunrise at the top of a large cater, then bike downhill for 7+miles……
Helicopter rides
The Road to Hana- it’s long!!! Nice waterfalls along the way. With a little hiking you can find some cascades (pools). there is not much in hana.
there is a winery on the island... not the best wine, but still fun.
there are some decent micro breweries.
renting jet skis
surf lessons (if you don't know how)
windsurfing
whale watching (when they are migrating)

Lahaina - Yes. Best shave ice on the island and Lahaina Grill is cant miss for dinner.
Black Rock - No. Read that the snorkeling was better in neighboring bays so we went there instead.
Jeep Tour - not really a fan of organized tours.
Whales - I think we missed the season by a month or two. Didnt see any. Largest marine animal I saw was the turtle that followed me around while snorkeling.

I was in Maui the 1st week in April and we saw some whales. Did a snorkeling excursion over to Lanai and the guide said we caught the tail end of the season that most whales and their calves had migrated to their feeding grounds.
Been to Maui twice and love it...really need to check out Kauai.

Cool Cats right across from the Banyan tree? The fish tacos there were damn good...wife and son had the Do Ho burgers there and loved them? Great milkshakes too.

We did our honeymoon there. Spent a week in Maui and a week on the Big Island. My thoughts on Maui --
Haleakalā -- Do this the first day you are there. Your not acclimated enough to the time change for it to really screw with you. Getting up that early still sucks though. Totally worth it to see the sunrise. Also - pack warm clothes for this. Even though you are on a tropical island the top of the mountain is freezing.
Road to Hana -- We did this. Loved it. Had a book called Maui Revealed that was written by a local. Gave were every hidden off the beaten path waterfall is on the Road to Hana. We did every one of them almost. Some of the most gorgeous stuff I have seen. Also - drive the back road of Hana. Rental car companies say you can't do it and you sign a paper saying you won't. We did it anyway. Really cool to see the difference in the island.
Snorkeling - Forgo the huge tourist trap of the big boats. Find a small boat company that takes people out and go that route. I can't remember the name of the place we went out with but it was way more cool than the monstrosity of a boat we went out on first.
Stayed at the Four Seasons. On the same floor as Hulk Hogan with his wife Linda and son Nick. Her knockers are bigger than they appear on t.v. Anyway - that place was awesome. Great experience.

That is about all I remember. I liked Maui way more than the Big Island.
