Kearse - the freak (1 Viewer)

Defensive end Jevon Kearse suffered a season-ending left knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Giants. The injury included sprains of multiple ligaments, including the medial collateral ligament, the lateral collateral ligament and the posterior cruciate ligament.Treatment options for his knee will be determined in the near future. The aftermath of Sunday's stunning overtime loss came Monday when head coach Andy Reid released an injury report which included Kearse, starting guard Shawn Andrews,The news is a severe blow to a defensive line that has enjoyed great success with its pass rush. Kearse was credited with 2 1/2 sacks Sunday.Earlier in the day, head coach Andy Reid termed it as a "severe knee injury." And the MRI and further evaluations confirmed just that.

Will Kearse be put on IR? If the injuries are sprains that don't require surgery than there's a slight chance he could be back if the Eagles make the playoffs.

The D-line is deep but obviously this is still a big blow. I hope for the best for Kearse, he's been (and hopefully will continue to be) a great part of this team.

I don't think this is a sprain and that he'd have any chance to come back this season. He tore his MCL, PCL and ACL. Similar injuries to Carson and Culpepper.

They are calling them sprains, not a complete tears, and it's his MCL, PCL and LCL - not his ACL.

Of all the big name injuries, Kearse's was the one the team could most afford. The defensive line is DEEP and has been getting a ton of pressure with and without Kearse in the lineup (the backed 2nd line has been playing almost as many snaps). That said, the Birds are still a better team with Kearse than without him obviously.

The injury we Birds fans should be more concerned about is Lito's. If he really is sidelined 8+ weeks, and Rod Hood can't play, Jim Johnson simply won't be able to be as creative or aggressive in his blitz packages because Huselius and Dexter aren't good enough to be put out on islands.

In the same article:Sheppard is improving, but Reid does not expect him to play next Sunday in San Francisco.

If Reid is already talking about his return, I can't see him out another 6 more weeks.

This just adds fuel to the Philadelphia media/fans against Andy Reid. If the Giants don't get into OT Jevon Kearse ends up fine.

I've had two buddies email me that exact sentiment already today. Believe me that viewpoint is pervasive.
Which brings the question, would the Eagles do better under a different coach? Are the Championship Games and Superbowl berths due to a talented Eagles team or a well coached Eagles team? But again, this is one (albeit: shocking) loss and I think the rest of this season will dictate if Andy's job is in jeopardy. I for one would be sad to see the fat man go.

I would also be sad to see Andy go, but at some point the glaring mental errors have to rest on the coach. Why did the team look and act like the game was over at the end of the 3rd quarter? How can your team leader get a false start penalty just messing with the defense? How come, and this kills me, the Eagles Def always starts out cold? They seem to always give up easy TD drives the first possesion of the game. How come our clock management is so bad? And why didn't we try to pin the Giants deep in their own territory instead of going on 4th and 1 with a 10 point lead? Asmuch as Kearse's injury was chance we should have been off the field with a W before it could have happened.

And for once, I think they are wrong. Reid actually tried to run the ball to kill the clock and it backfired on himCBuck failed to convert a 4th and 1 with about 9 minutes left when they were up 10Westbrook fumbles with 4 and a half left when they are still up 10And of course there's nothing he could have done about Cole getting that PF.
