Keep Tony Sparano! (1 Viewer)

The dolphins have not been good this year. They have been mediocre. Now the time comes where you ask, well, what do you do about it? My answer is "keep the head coach, get rid of the OC"

The dolphins are the least penalized team in the NFL. That is on the HC. They are not the most talented bunch (especially at QB). That is on the Front office. They have not been good offensively, and that is on tony, but more so for sticking with henning and henne than anything else. Their D has been solid.

To me, the dumbest thing you can do is fire the HC here. This team has some very impressive wins and some really bad losses, but except for 2 games, they were in it with a chance to win.

Am I wrong here?

I like Sparano, I really do.

But the fact is this year we have played not to lose every stinking game. The playcalling has been awful, and the game decisions and clock management has been awful.

The Dolphins need to clean house in many areas and unfortunatly Tony will be part of the oncoming purge. Jeff Irlend is gone (and Bill slipped out the back door that piece of ####). A guy (along with Uncle Bill) who passed on Matt Ryan (I wanted Matt Ryan you take the QB) when we finally had the #1 pick. And we don't take the franchise QB? I know it was a gamble no one knew if Ryan would be the "guy" but when you have the #1 you take the shot. A guy (along with Uncle Bill) who traded down and did not pick Dez Bryant to team up with Marshall and Bess...it is just sickening.

So Steve Ross (who is a tool of an owner and has ruined going to Dolphin games) will bring in his people. Whether that will be Cowher (who wants total control) or Carl Peterson to run the team, something is changing big time in Dolphin land.

Your plea will fall on deaf ears no doubt.

Tony is a goner.

7 straight losses at home.

Done.

Get Cowher and do whatever he wants. I am so tired of going to the games and watching this lousy team play not to lose, and then lose...

article on Cowher

I want Sparano gone almost as much as I want Henning lynched. Either way, HC and OC should be drop kicked. Please bring in Cowher. We have wasted too many draft picks (mostly 2nd rounders) on finding our QB. We need to pull the trigger on a franchise Qb...but am not sure if there is one available for us this next draft.

My only concern is that Cowher will take a Giants HC position over a Dolphins position ony because he is ensured to have a solid QB already in place there

Tony Sparano should be fired, along with Dan Henning.

I've never seen a team that plays for the FG instead of the Touchdown more than Miami does. So when Dan Carpenter gets a case of the yips, they lose games that they shouldn't.

Chad Henne is just terrible. He locks in on his primary and throws to him, regardless of whether he's triple-covered or not.

As much as I like Sparano, I'm getting really tired of the fist-pump "yeah we won the ballgame!" reaction to field goals. Unless it's a game winner or end of half, a field goal is an admission that you can't score a TD. The play not to lose mentality reminds me way too much of Wanny.

I mean, seriously, what's happened since 2008? We had a much better QB playing for us back then. That was a great year and we've been sliding precipitously into a downward spiral offensively since then. Not to mention going 1-6 at home! Completely uncalled for.

I would slightly prefer Gruden over Cowher due to his offensive cred, but I'd be thrilled with either one quite honestly.

I disagree with the original post. Sparano tends to overthink everything with his stats and constant analysis. It wouldn't take too long to dig up articles from last year where Sparano justified not using Wake (this years current league leader in sacks) more than 15 plays a game because of some spreadsheet analysis he had created on snapcounts. Nolan immediately saw the talent in Wake and put him on the field with great results.

Sparano is a good guy, but a bad coach. The biggest problem with the team is Henning. The playcalling was just as bad last year but Sparano defended Henning and fully endorsed bringing back his offensive coordinator this year. Sparano has influenced and endorsed the "play not to lose" style and he has let his personal relationships cloud his judgment. This is the mark of a good guy, but not a good coach.

We have the talent to win now but coaching has made all the difference. With a good defensive coordinator this year, the same core of players went from being a liability last year to being one of the top defenses in the league this year. That is the result of a coaching change. I guess you could use this argument against me and say that a new defensive coordinator revived the defense with Sparano still in place, so the same could be done with a new offensive coordinator. The problem I see there is that Sparano has made his bed in Miami with Henning. There is a blog entry on the Miami Herald today with Sparano still defending Henning as doing "a tremendous job this year". Blaming all the problems on execution instead of shifting rightful blame to the playcalling hints to me that Sparano will keep sinking with the philosophy in place rather than change his ways. I hope for a new direction next year.
