KEEPER HELP NEEDED (1 Viewer)

Keep 5 majors and 3 minors: typical 5x5 roto league scoring

The four majors I am keeping now are:

A-Rod

Braun - to use at Utility

Holliday

Rios (Least solid of the four);

Who should the 5th keeper be: I have a lean but I am curious about what the great baseball minds around here think. This is the rest of the ML roster that has not already been dumped. I have to declare by 12/31.

Roberts, Brian 2B BAL

Kubel, Jason LF MIN

Billingsley, Chad SP LAA

Hill, Rich SP CHC

Jenks, Bobby RP CHW

Penny, Brad SP LA

Putz, J.J. RP SEA A

Sheffield, Gary RF DET

Gorzelanny, Tom SP PIT

If it helps, I have these three stashed in my minors. Only Jones is technically Minor League eligible per our league rules, so I once I bring up Ellsbury and Young I have to keep em' as Majors. I may leave Ellsbury and Young in my minors for as long as I want....................................

Ellsbury, Jacoby OF BOS

Jones, Adam CF SEA

Young, Chris B. CF ARI

The other minor I could keep is Soria, Joakim RP KC and I am trying to trade him away....

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance.

I would lean towards Roberts or Putz due to the scarcity at those positions. Do you have an idea of what other teams are throwing back for 2B or Closers?

Sheff still mashes pretty welll...
Ya, but what's better....Sheff or one of Ellsbury/Young plus either Putz or Roberts?I have a feeling he won't be thinking about keeping Sheffield after next season, so imo it's time to call up one of Ellsbury or Young when the season starts, allowing him to keep somebody other than Sheff.

OK - now ya'll are making me think. :

I was leaning with Billingsley. He is young (age 23) has an era of just over 3.3 and a K per inning.

It is a little tough to predict what is being thrown back and what is being kept. If you really want it I will figure it out and post later what each team is going to keep

Exactly right relative to Sheff. I can always call up one of the young OF I have to replace him. The fact that Young is a 30/30 guy already means I don't really see the need to keep Sheff.

What about Rios - I think I have to keep him, although his power numbers last year were down. I just can't see keeping anyone else over him. Do ya'll agree?

I'd keep the four you originally mentioned for sure.Billingsly is gonna be a nice option this year, and if you think he's gonna get REAL good then this is the year you gotta keep him. I'd prefer the 40 saves or Roberts over him and Sheff (since you have Young/Ellsbury). Plus, think about it from a redraft perspective right now....where do you think Billingsly is going? Not around the 5th round which he basically has become if you keep him. Roberts and Putz might not be 5th rounders either, but I'm guessing they'd go before Billingsly in redrafts. Maybe you get him back 5-10 rounds into your draft. If you keep him this year, it's because you're gambling on his future. Too much of a gamble imo.

 I think when the chips fall, Brian Roberts will be a Cub and be leading off everyday. I still don't know if I'd reserve him, but he should have a fine year with lots of runs/fair share of steals. It's a finger crossing situation, but I also like Jenks to have a solid year. Like him or hate him, Scott Linebrink is a much better setup guy than Mike MacDougal. The addition of Linebrink to the Sox pen moves all the other pitchers down into roles they're more comfortable in, which should help Jenks save chances and the Sox chances overall.

I think you are right Bobcat and Statorama- I did a little bit of research into this just a few moments ago. clearly the choice is Putz or Roberts. They are both much higher in redraft rankings by position and overall - even at the is early stage. I'll have to try to target Billingsley for a later pick.

Thanks for the help and talking this out with me. I appreciate it.

I'd keep Roberts and Putz and throw back Rios.

you already have a solid offensive nucleus with Holliday/Braun and Arod. They should be good for what, 120 hr's, 400 rbi's, 300+ runs and a .300+ average? Rios doesn't contribute enough to any one particular category to overwhelm me, whereas Roberts should get 40+ steals and 100+ runs and plays at a pretty sparse position at second. Putz may not put up the numbers he did last year....but he has had back to back 35+ save years, with WHIP's under 1.00 and ERA's under 2.5 with very healthy K/IP ratios. At only 30 years old, I think he should put up similar numbers again and be a solid closer.

But Rios is young and contributes across the board..... although I can't say I totally disagree with the logic. I have been trying to trade Rios this entire offseason with no takers.
