Keeper question (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I could use some advice on who to keep this year. I am in a 10 team league with standard scoring. I can post the complete scoring system if anyone wants to see it. We can only keep 4.

Here are my choices:

Chase Utley

Ryan Braun 3B

Bobby Abreau

SP

J. Santana

B. Webb

C. Hamels

RP

J Nathan

JJ Putz

Right now I'm going to keep Utley, Santana, Webb, and either Braun or Hamels.

Thanks for the advice!!

Are those your only reasonable hitting choices? I go Braun for sure in that case and probably would anyway.

I've got a similar situation where I can keep 3, which is lame. Next year we keep 8 :(

Braun

Hanley

David Ortiz

Ryan Howard

BJ Upton

Atkins

Pedroia

Lincecum

Webb

H2H - Pretty standard. We lose a point for strikeouts, get 2 for steals. I do not want to keep Howard. Am I wrong about this? He missed about 50 ABs and ended up around 40th for scoring last year.

I'd keep

Utley

Braun

Santana

Hamels

Although you didn't say how long you can keep these players, I am going to assume indefinitely. Hamels is 4 1/2 years younger than Webb, and a lot less innings pitched on his arm.

I ordinarily don't advocate keeping more than one pitcher however, as offensive output is usually a bit more predictable than pitching. I'd probably keep Teixeira over Hamels at this point.

utley, braun and santana for sure.

Depending upon scoring, you can make the case for Tex, hamels or Webb

do you have an idea of who else is being kept. That may help fill out the final roster spot....

Ortiz over Howard? I'd have to disagree.

for sure, utley, johan, and braun

i'd go with webb over hamels. i never like to put my pitching eggs in young baskets. too much can go wrong over the course of their careers. hamels is young and "could" be better than webb eventually, assuming he stays healthy. webb, however, is already a top-flight pitcher who's shown he can handle a workload year after year.

which is precisely why I say you can make an argument for Tex

actually, i didn't see he had teix, too. i'd probably go with him over webb and hamels.i think it's smarter to build around hitters in a keeper league. whether it's true or not, i always feel like pitchers are at greater risk of having their careers derailed by injuries. hitters get banged up too, but a pitchers primary job (hurling a baseball 85-100 mph over and over) is unnatural for the human body and makes it hard to stay healthy. unless they are on the juice, banking on a long, dominant career out of them feels like a gamble.i feel much more comfortable grabbing up stud hitters b/w ages 25-27 and enjoying 7-9 years of dominance.
