Keith Ellison (1 Viewer)

Did he show enough to be considered a contributor in 2007, with LFB possibly leaving?Below is a related bump (of sorts) of the 'Dynasty Young Backup LBs' post we had a while ago. Jene was the only one who mentioned anything about Ellison, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how this one might go?Cheers.

I'll turn this on its head a bit - lets think about big roles that are going to open up soon:Tampa WLB - Derrick Brooks is getting up there in yearsBuffalo MLB - Fletcher-Baker will be a free agentNew England ILB - Junior Seau is a one year plug inIndianapolis WLB - Cato June will be a free agentSan Diego ILBs - discussed at length in this forum - Godfrey is almost done, and Edwards was close to being traded in the preseasonCarolina MLB - Will Dan Morgan ever play again? Chris Draft is not the answer.Anyone with insight into these possible plum IDP spots for the taking?
The Bills' Keith Ellison is interesting but not particularly sexy. I don't see anything (other than Ruud) of reasonable value in Tampa or New England.

This one got no love the first time around and may very well not the second, however a few weeks on and Ellison has continued to perform ok at a consistent level with Crowell out. If (when) Fletcher leaves in the offseason, who replaces him in the middle?

I think (hope) the Bills will do whatever they can to re-sign London Fletcher. I think he's happy in Buffalo, his contributions are greatly appreciated, and I don't think he'll attract a ton of attention on the free agent market given his age and size. Given his importance to the team, and reasonable sign-ability (hoping I'm right about this), he shouldn't be too difficult to bring back. Losing him could be devastating to an already sketchy run defense.

If they lose him, the Bills LB situation is up in the air but I'd project Spikes to take over at MLB with Crowell at WLB and possibly a rookie/free agent at SLB. I love what Ellison has done this year, but he's likely the 3rd best WLB on this roster next season once Spikes is fully recovered. Given that take, I don't think he has too much dynasty value in the short-term, but it wouldn't shock me if he pulled a Crowell and wound up being better than I'm giving him credit for here.

Even if Fletcher comes back, there could be a very interesting battle between Crowell and Spikes for the nickel LB duties. But, one thing Ellison did this year is clearly establish himself as the 4th best LB in this group, so if Fletcher or even Spikes aren't brought back for some reason, he should get a chance to start.

This is what I was thinking, however I have read some postboards from St Louis homers hoping LFB might return. False hopes IMO.I hadn't tracked Ellison as well as I had other potential 2007 starters (Gaither, Anderson, Cooper, Keiaho), however added him as soon as Crowell went down as I knew he'd get his chance to showcase some skills. Like you mentioned, Crowell has become a quality producer and Ellison may very well do the same, which makes him hard to put back on the WW now that he's been noticed by the rest of my league.

Still, if a few others in here are of the opinion that Ellison has no short-term dynasty value, my mind can hopefully be clear enough to cut him.

Thanks for the insight.
