The Chad Pennington era is now over. According to the NY Post, QB Kellen Clemens will start next Sunday against the Washington Redskins.Pennington had another poor game yesterday against the Bills, throwing for only 106 yards on 20 passing attempts. Clemens, who started earlier this year against Baltimore, will make his second NFL start.

Ok, Jets fans - you ruthlessly booed Chad "the savior" out, treating him like trash... here you get your wish.

Enjoy the "next savior" - countdown until the Jets fan turn on him?

From the article.......

Eric Mangini has little choice but to go to his backup quarterback - and probably a number of other backup players - after his Jets fell to 1-7 with an offense that too often looked hopeless. After the game, Mangini would not give any hints whether he was poised to make a change, but a source with intimate knowledge of the team's thinking told The Post last night Mangini will turn to Clemens.
This is not fact yet....until the source is Mangini, Pennington, Clemens or another team official, we probably need to change the title. "Sources" have been wrong many times...see Eli Manning earlier this season

At 1-7, with Pennington playing the way he has, do you honestly think it's not in the best interest of the franchise to see what Clemens can do? :goodposting:

Exactly. But I do think that it needs to be done, and shouldve been done 4 weeks ago.

Now it is official...........

Mangini's Starting QB for Redskins: Clemens

By Eric Allen

Quarterback Kellen Clemens will start Sunday for the New York Jets when they host the Washington Redskins at the Meadowlands. Head coach Eric Mangini made the announcement Monday, less than 24 hours after the Jets scored only three points against the Buffalo Bills.

"I talked to Chad, I talked to Kellen, and I talked to the team," Mangini said. "And moving into Sunday, Kellen will be the starting quarterback."

This will be the second pro start for Clemens. He was at the offensive controls in Week 2 at Baltimore when Chad Pennington was shelved with an ankle injury.

In the 20-13 defeat, Clemens improved as the game went on and nearly led the Green & White back from a 17-point deficit. He recovered after an early interception against a good Ravens defense, throwing for 260 yards and two scores while completing 51 percent of his passes.

“I thought it was an opportunity he created and he deserved,” Mangini said of Clemens' opportunity.

Clemens takes over the offensive controls from Pennington, the first-round pick from Marshall in 2000 who has been the Jets' starter since relieving Vinny Testaverde in a 2002 Week 4 contest at Jacksonville. The 2006 AP Comeback Player of the Year started 16 games last season and helped guide the Jets to 10 wins and a wild-card playoff berth.

But at this season’s midway point, the Green & White have just one win and have dropped five consecutive games. In their last two home games, losses to Philadelphia and Buffalo, they didn't register an offensive touchdown. Pennington has completed 67.4 percent of his passes and has compiled an 87.5 passer rating.

“I made this decision not based on singling out Chad for where we are but based on the fact that I think Chad has earned this opportunity,” Mangini said. “And I want to give him this opportunity. In no way is Chad totally responsible — we all are. There are plenty of things each person can improve.”

The 6’2”, 233-pound Clemens, a 2006 second-round selection from Oregon, threw two late interceptions against the Bills after being inserted into the game in pass mode with 3:32 remaining and facing a 10-point deficit.

At Oregon, Clemens threw 19 touchdown passes against four interceptions in 2005. He assumed the starting QB role in 2003, throwing for more TD passes and yards than any sophomore in school history.

This is the first time in Pennington's career that he's lost the starter's job due to a coach's decision and not due to injury. Nevertheless, Mangini said Pennington took word of his decision well.

"Chad, he's great. He handles everything with the same professionalism and poise," Mangini said. "I respect him so much for that."

I have Clemens and I am trading for Cotchery this week. Going to be a good hookup.
I am going to try and dump Crotchery this week.
Agreed same thingI wont be playing him this weekend I know that
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I thought Cotchery had a pretty nice game when Clemens played earlier this year.
he had the best game of his career 7/165/0 on the road against Baltimore (wk2).

Indeed, although I think the numbers for all WRs be a bit uneven with Clemens in there as he works through growing pains. I think Coles takes the biggest hit (pun unintended) - assuming he's healthy - due to the unparalleled chemistry he had with Chad.Still, I see a lot of garbage points ahead, so it could all even out.

They should have let Clemens start after he almost brought the Jets back against the ravens. Penny was still sore. Clemens would have won the job that second start and the Jets would be much better at this point. I still dont understand why they didnt just sit Penny 1 extra week due to injury.

My opinion is the same today as it was a month ago - this has nothing to do with Chad anymore, and everything to do with Clemens. If the coaches feel that it is in CLEMENS best interst to start this week, by all means, it is time. If, however, he would benefit from a couple more weeks of prep and come back after the bye, that is what should be done.My point with the above post is not to disagree with yanking Pennington (he has done just about nothing this year, you can't support his candidacy at this point, any longer) but rather to point out how so many Joe Benigno's out there are going to create yet ANOTHER "savior" only to tear him down... and I can tell you this, while Chad deserved to be replaced, he did NOT deserve the disgusting treatment he received from Jets fans this season.

My only objection to what you have said here is not qualifying your statements by saying at the least, "most" or "many" Jets fans. As a Jets fan, I was and remain appalled by the treatment he's gotten by so many Jets fans. I'd go so far as to say that Jets fans may well be the worrst fans in the NFL as a group.... but that is not all of us, by any stretch. The guy has been a warrior. Worthy of songs of heroic doings and toasts in the public house. Having said that, every warrior fades away into song and stories of past glory. So it is with Chad. Benningo is a fool, and is hardly representative of Jets fans at large, even the idiots that booed Pennington. I am certainly NOT annointing Clemens as any sort of saviour, but I do think he gives the team a better chance to win now, and I'd like to watch how he develops this year. So far, in flashes, I've liked what I've seen. Let's use this year to find out if we need to use a high draft pick on a QB or not. Young, promising QB? Yes. Saviour? Stupid talk.

Chad is everything you'd want in a QB with the exception of a strong arm. unfortunately for him, that's a pretty important commodity for any qb. even in the face of losing his job, he's conducted himself with class and dignity. that said, there is no question this change had to take place. He was getting his receivers killed out there. Giving up INTs (for TDs) at critical point of the game. the team is out of playoff contention. the stadium has been getting more and more empty each week. This is the root of the boos for the past few weeks not just at Pennington, but the whole team.
