Rick Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports a shakeup in the Jets QB pecking order.

Curiously, No. 2 QB Kellen Clemens didn't receive as many second-team reps as usual, as he was replaced by Kevin O'Connell in certain drills. Hmmm. Ostensibly, O'Connell is battling Erik Ainge for the No. 3 job. Ryan is calling it an open competition, although it appears that O'Connell is leading. O'Connell eating into the No.2 snaps in practice says more about Clemens' standing than O'Connell's progress.

As for Clemens, his days are numbered. The Jets are expected to sign free agent Mark Brunell in late July, and he would take over as Sanchez's backup. Basically, now that Sanchez is healthy, the Jets will look to move on from Clemens.

I think that once they ink Brunell Clemens is gone as well. They may as well develop Ainge or O'Connell at the No. 3 as Clemens will never be anything more than adequate (if he's lucky).I was of the belief that the Jets shouldn't have moved up for Sanchez when they had a former second round pick that showed a little already - but I'm glad that the Jets didn't listen to me. Clemens looked terrible in the Buffalo and Tampa Bay games when Sanchez missed time. He looked absolutely lost which is alarming for a "veteran" QB. I'm not even sure that he'll be an adequate backup QB but he'll likely bounce around the league as one for a few years.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but this tidbit caught my eye this morning:

Erik Ainge in drug rehab

With Ainge gone (or at least suspended for a lengthy period of time), it looks like Clemens and Kevin O'Connell will be battling for the 3rd spot. O'Connell is eligible for the practice squad, IIRC.

edit: neither O'Connell nor Ainge are eligible for the practice squad, since they both have more than 1 Accrued Season on the 53-man roster.
