Kelvin Benjamin - WR - FSU [UPDATE PAGE 1, 7/3] (1 Viewer)

I do think this guy has opportunity and ability but this is still a rookie. At his current ADP, its a no brainer to take a flyer but if he starts to creep up in the round 10-12 area, I don't know.

Per reporter Steve Reed, the duo has "forged a close relationship on and off the field." Coach Ron Rivera calls their relationship a "big brother, little brother thing." The off-field chemistry is nice, but the Panthers will be in a world of trouble if they don't strike up a big-time connection on it. Early returns suggest they will.

Any ideas as to where he's going in a dynasty league rookie draft? I've got the 4th pick and I'm thinking about grabbing him there before I miss out.

He's in the conversation at 3 for me. Not probable, but he's an option. Maybe I'm just not sold on cooks yet though

 
FBG experts have him ranked 47-54th best WR. I think this guy needs to be slotted between 15-30 after his 2 preseason games. Would it surprise anyone if he finishes the season with better stats than V-Jax, Colston, Michael Floyd, Eric Decker, or Emanuel Sanders (all ranked much higher)? Number 1 target WR on team, and a huge redzone threat. He is a guy I will gladly roll the dice on and take early.

 
I thought Benjamin played pretty well. We know other teams are going to concentrate on him so other guys need to show up. Olsen being out hurt Cam a bit early I think. But ol slow Benjamin got behind the DBs a couple of times and the one should have been a long touchdown. And although I didn't like the penalty I did like the nasty streak. Just got to keep it within the rules.

Agreed...they have nothing and apparently he and Cam have quite the repore with one another. It looks like he'll have the opportunity and has a good skillset.

Assuming both guys are healthy, it would *shock* me if Benjamin outproduced VJax this year. The other guys I wouldn't be too surprised, but it seems like Jackson doesn't belong on that list.

Agreed, VJ was one of the names that stood out. I guess I could see Floyd, but Colston, Decker and Sanders are in another tier from VJ and Floyd IMHO.

He may well be. It will be interesting to see where he goes in drafts. 2 of my 3 are Charlotte based, although my neighborhood is almost all transplants, so less Panther lovers, but again Benjamin is getting a lot of press here, so hard not to hear about him.

 
I think in redraft if you want to mess with the Panthers wr's (which I probably wouldnt) then I would target Avant. I think he produces above his draft position early on and then maybe KB finishes out the season as top dog. But I just dont think the wr's have much overwhelming value this year.

What is his draft position? Like 20th round of a 16 team draft? He has no upside at all. At least with Benjamin, there is a chance he becomes a red zone threat and a big play guy.

 
Avant could be a nice ppr flex option during the heavy bye weeks 9 & 10. Carolina plays NO home Thur night & @Philly week 10.

 
I love Avant as a person and a teammate but he has no upside. He is what he is. About 3-5 catches for 50-60 yards. Rarely a TD and once every season he will have a 100 yd game. Good luck guessing which one.

Excellent on 3rd downs though. Guy always seems to catch for first downs.

If you're drafting KB in the 15th round or higher, there's not too much risk. At best you got a #1 wr for a good young QB on a team with few options. At worst you drop him for the WW flavor of the week.

If you're drafting KB in the 15th round or higher, there's not too much risk. At best you got a #1 wr for a good young QB on a team with few options. At worst you drop him for the WW flavor of the week.

Agree. I just don't think he is fantasy relevant this year. I would rather take a flyer on a running back in that range.

 
As a Saints fan it pains me to say he's going to work out for the Panthers, though I am still pleased as punch that Steve Smith is gone. However I have him marked to draft in every league I can.

Maybe in dynasty I just dont think he has the skillset (yet) or the experience to make a fantasy impact this year.

I think he eventually will turn out to be a great NFL and fantasy player. Its hard for me to get excited about these types of wr's in fantasy for their rookie season.

I know you're guarding yourself as a fan. I get that. However, someone has to get the targets in that offense and Avant and Olsen will not be getting 120+ looks. KB may not be a top10 wr this year but he will be top20 almost by default due to the situation there at wr. Just my opinion of course. I think the volume will make up for rookie-ness.

Having nothing also is a detriment to Benjamin because it means he will see double teams or teams rolling coverage his way. For a rookie that has been scouted as not being able to create separation, that is worrisome.

 
I don't think defenses will have much success vs. Carolina double teaming Kelvin Benjamin. If this happens they are just going to run all over you.

Defenses can double team and roll coverage AS WELL as have a priority of stopping the run.

The top Carolina WR was ranked around 40th last year. Granted, Steve Smith is not a big red zone threat, but at the same time Steve Smith wasn't a rookie. I think many are just taking a glance at the WRs on Carolina and because they don't have many options that means Kelvin Benjamin must be good statistically by default. That isn't the case though.

He has gotten over the top on two pretty good defenses. He has shown the ability to make catches in traffic. He blocks well. He is going to get a ton of opportunities. He is going to get chances in the red zone. He has to have 47 yards and .25 TDs a game to replace Smith. In fact to replace Smith and Lafell he needs .55 touchdowns a game and 80 yards. People act like he is coming in behind some combination of Rice and Megatron. He isn't and he is going to get plenty of chances to beat those numbers.

Cam said the ankle injury has actually been a factor since college.

I'm an FSU fan so I have loved him for his actual play making. I remember watching him in college thinking he was going to be a beast in the NFL.

roughly Wes Welker was the 20th WR with 70 catches, 700 yards and 10 tds.There is such a small percentage chance that KB hits that its ridiculous. its not a good habit to start betting on rookies breaking records.

No, but he has a real shot to have a Mike Williams rookie year. If he falls well short, you can still get good value at his ADP.
