Kelvin Benjamin - WR - FSU [UPDATE PAGE 1, 7/3] (2 Viewers)

As a Saints fan it pains me to say he's going to work out for the Panthers, though I am still pleased as punch that Steve Smith is gone. However I have him marked to draft in every league I can.
Maybe in dynasty I just dont think he has the skillset (yet) or the experience to make a fantasy impact this year. I think he eventually will turn out to be a great NFL and fantasy player. Its hard for me to get excited about these types of wr's in fantasy for their rookie season.
I know you're guarding yourself as a fan. I get that. However, someone has to get the targets in that offense and Avant and Olsen will not be getting 120+ looks. KB may not be a top10 wr this year but he will be top20 almost by default due to the situation there at wr. Just my opinion of course. I think the volume will make up for rookie-ness.
Well this guy had his ups and downs and he definitely wasn't the best rookie WR this year but the volume definitely made up for it.

127 targets for 67-952-9 through 14 games.

Dynasty question:

How do people feel about KB for next year?

Would you bump him down if the Panthers took another WR in the 1st round of the draft? (I expect the real pick will be OL but I'm wondering about this.)

I am honestly thinking about selling him in the off season. I know he has more talent than Mike Williams, or Michael Clayton, but this feels like those type of situations again. I might try to package him and something to go get Evans or OBJ

So does Haden blanket Benjamin this week making him a non factor. ?

PPR, etc.

I could play J. Hill over him. Just don't know how much Carolina will have to pass this week.

Haden was forced out of last weeks game with an injury, and did not practice Wednesday.

May be something to monitor... I am rolling with KB either way.

Imagine if he had landed with GB or Baltimore like many speculated before the draft.

Not sure he'd have better numbers in Baltimore. Playing with Rogers may have pushed his numbers up but they already have so many good guys would he have gotten the chances and would he be the number one option from day one?

I thought about the same but in a Dynasty with a rookie WR you have to be patient.

I'm going after OBJ but I'm doing so with Draft picks or something else.

Benjamin is a good kid, i believe that he will figure it out. I'm holding!

Would he have 140 targets on those teams?
No he wouldn't. He fell in a perfect place for first year numbers. I actually think he will naturally regress if they sign or draft a competent WR.
Depends if he fixes his dropsies. If he's in an Offense that is in the RZ more, he may end up with even more TDs than this year.

Might be a buy low, it will be a situation to watch.

just curious but how in the hell could KB be a buy low candidate?

Guy had maybe the best year he'll have in his career. Buy Low!

I am not so sure they will be bringing in much in the way of receivers. I think you look at the numbers and they have competent receivers. Philly Brown is looking like a great find. Bersin is coming on and makes a nice option. Pretty sure Cotchery got a two year deal. And Olsen will still be here. They may churn the bottom a bit but those guys are going to be your main players next season I think.

I'm not sure I see the reason to imply this was his career year, but given that some people would say that...that's the very reason he can be seen as a buy low.

He could be viewed as a buy low if you feel that Newton's play this year held back his #'s and that they should improve together.

He could be viewed as a buy low due to the expectation of near term focused owners that don't think he can improve upon his rookie year.

He could be viewed as a buy low as other rookies such as OBJ & Mike Evans have come on more strongly, making Benjamins year less impressive by comparison (which would be a poor way to evaluate Benjamin's rookie year).

This guy corners my thoughts pretty well, lol. Simply put, you think this will be his career year. I think he can get even better. Hence, you'll sell him thinking he can't do better than this and I will buy him thinking he can do better than this.

I am a huge fan of KB but how do you explain the high percentage of dropped passes? I hope he gets back on track against Arizona.

Always been a problem with Benjamin. He should have caught at least two yesterday that he dropped. Hoping that a full offseason in a pro program will help with all that,

I don't think KB has a big ceiling. I think his size makes him a potential elite RZ target, but I don't see the all around skills that a Watkins or Beckham has. Plaxico 2.0. He should be a consistent lock for about 1000 and 10, but I'm not sure he can be much more. I see him as a WR2 moving forward.

Can you imagine how good he'll be when they get a legit #2 out there with him?
i don't think this has been an issue whenever I have watched them this year.
Cotchery is a fair #3, Olsen is one of the better TEs in the game. Sure Cam could use another OW, but the line needs to be addressed first.

Rotoworld:

Kelvin Benjamin admitted he got mentally fatigued during his rookie year.

It's not a surprise. Benjamin was one of last year's more raw wideout prospects, yet was tasked with the job of being his team's No. 1 target right away. There were some downs but a plenty of ups and the Panthers wisely stuck with him for the whole journey. When the dust settled, Benjamin overcame the fatigue to finish with 73-1,008-9 as fantasy's No. 17 WR. He should have more stamina in Year 2.

Re-drafting the 2014 wide receiver class

Excerpt:

Kelvin Benjamin, Carolina PanthersIt's no coincidence that general manager Dave Gettleman targeted a monstrous receiver after unceremoniously dumping undersized franchise icon Steve Smith last offseason. Upon drafting Benjamin in the first round, Gettleman pointed to the Florida State star's "big strike zone," ability to make catches when he's pressured and red-zone impact. "You can't coach 6-5, 240 with a 34-inch arm length and 10-inch hands," Gettleman added.

What the Panthers didn't publicly acknowledge is that those traits take on an even higher priority under Cam Newton, who tends to be wild high when he's off the mark. A massive human being with big paws, an abnormally large catch radius and the physicality to wall off defenders, Benjamin is the ideal target for Newton's high and wide fastballs.

Assuming the No. 1 role from the get-go, Benjamin quickly earned his quarterback's trust -- even on plays when he wasn't open. Defenses showed respect by shadowing him with top cornerbacks, such as Patrick Peterson, Keenan Lewis, Desmond Trufant, Jimmy Smith and Xavier Rhodes. The Seahawks even broke with tradition, allowing Richard Sherman to trail Benjamin around the field in Week 8. The rookie promptly beat the Sherman-Earl Thomas All-Pro tag-team on a pair of plays.

Benjamin is nearly three full years older than Evans. He's never going to match Evans' run-after-catch prowess, but he's a prototypical third-down chain mover and red-zone threat with the proven ability to beat top cornerbacks.

The Question: Are the drops curable?

Benjamin has a knack for making easy plays look difficult and difficult plays look easy. He was among the league leaders in dropped passes, many of which were easily catchable. The concern is that it's a problem that dogged him in college as well.

Comparison: Evolutionary Plaxico Burress

Rotoworld:

Kelvin Benjamin is missing some OTAs sessions with a strained hamstring.

Benjamin dealt with a concussion and minor knee issue last season, but appeared in all 16 games. He should be 100 percent for next month's minicamp. His durability isn't a concern for 2015.

Rotoworld:

Panthers coach Ron Rivera expects Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) back at practice this week.

Benjamin has been battling a strained hamstring for close to a month. The 24-year-old was one of three rookies to go over 1,000 yards receiving last season. He'll be in play as a WR2 in most fantasy leagues.

a little worrisome
Seems like they are being cautious. It has also allowed Funchess to get a ton of snaps which has to be good.

sit him through OTA's, make sure he's following the proper procedures to rehab this "mild" injury, and hope he's ready to go next month at training camp w/o setbacks

The reports on Funchess have been really good. Catching some tough balls. The reports on Hill however have gone the other direction. Easy drops, running wrong routes etc. Black and Blue review has the recaps

Yeah I read somewhere about Ricky chewing on Hill for running the wrong route. I hope he can get it together so much potential there. But like you say all the reports on Funchess have been real good. So we got that.
