Kelvin Benjamin - WR - FSU [UPDATE PAGE 1, 7/3] (2 Viewers)

Oof. Yeah that's ugly.

I was about to say that if he can be healthy, he is one of the most undervalued WRs in redraft right now. Buffalo offense looks less than desirable, but who else are they gonna throw to?  Sure seems like he'll get a boatload of targets. What would be a good over/under on that? I'll say 110.

 
Cam has had some accuracy issues, for sure.  But to blame the organization and his QB for his lack of development in the league is a whole lot of BS.  He often showed up in the spring overweight and it was always a concern/mild distraction for the team.  And he had his drops as well.  

When Benjamin was out with the ACL in 2015, Cam was MVP of the league and the team went to the superbowl.  

Over the last four years, Carolina was 21-3 in the regular season without Benjamin. With him they were 18-21-1.  But it's all Cam's fault that Benjamin isn't among the best WR in the league?   :shrug:

 
Cam has a career completion percentage of 58.5% which is to my knowledge the worst of all experienced starters in the NFL. Obviously it is possible that some of Benjamin's struggles can be attributed to Cam's inaccuracy. But to place all of the blame solely on Cam and the team is laughable and is not conducive to him improving as a WR.

I'd like to go ahead and retract this post at this time. Haha. Oh well. Guess Coleman could make the Bills offense better in general. But I'm crossing them both off my list now.

 
Looking at what Daboll did as the OC in CLE in 09/10, MIA in 11 and KC in 12 some obvious #### sticks out. Daboll doesn't like to pass daboll very much and his teams usually rank near the bottom in play volume - so those saying BUF will continue with it's general game plan this year are likely correct despite the question marks surrounding McCoy and the downgrade of the OL. What I also did see, however, was that Brandon Marshall commanded a ~31% market share with MIA in 2011 which was good for 141 targets and a 81/1,214/6 stat line. Bowe in 2012 commanded a ~24% market share in 13 games which was good for a 57/793/3 stat line (prorated to 71/976/4). Benjamin at the very least fits a similar mold to Marshall/Bowe and even if I was only expecting let's say ~500 pass attempts, with a Marshall or even Bowe like market share he could still see some pretty decent volume. I'm obviously not in love with him but I'm just looking for possible value. The QB situation is still pretty bad which is hard to discount but Marshall and Bowe were dealing with pretty poor QBs (Moore, Cassel) as well. It's always hard to get around volume even if everything else sucks.

I would expect a different market share with Coleman alongside. I'd put the number in the range 22%-24%, still a hefty 110+ targets on 500 pass attempts. But like you mention about the quarterback, what kind of ypt will you get out of him, or tds? It's going to be bad. 

 
Big body Benjamin looked like a guy ready to eat with something to prove. This year I think his Floor is 60/900/5 (180 PPR), ceiling 75/1050/10 (240 PPR), midpoint 210 PPR. Pretty reasonable for cost.

Benjamin tore the meniscus in his right knee last November and had surgery after the season. He also had left knee soreness early last season. Benjamin told me earlier in camp his knees weren’t bothering him. “No pain, no aching,” he said July 28. Seems that has changed.

ice can be prophylactic.

 
He's going so late, I don't think it's wrong to take a chance on him.  He's shown the talent in the past.  ADP of 110 for PPR.  

I'm probably targetting Aghlor around that time.  As someone else mentioned, I like a lot of the QB's in that area too.  Sterling Sheperd is going off the board in that area.  

I think he's essentially a WR 4 at that point, and you're looking for someone that can reasonably hit 800-5 with the upside for more.  Crabtree fits the bill, but I think others have more upside, and you can get similar guys even later.

Also, I just don't trust the bills.  Rookie QB, RB with a groin injury and suspension concerns.  I think the offense could be a train wreck this year.

Josh Allen in.

Is this good or bad for Kelvin? Guy in my league dropped him after week one and I lost Baldwin for the near term. I remember the year he had with Cam and Josh Allen has draw comps to Cam Newton (and Jake Locker).  Chemistry is a funny thing, and I figure a roll of the dice here wouldn't hurt just to see what happens if the cost is a free pickup.

 Thank goodness John Brown & Godwin  are working out for me in that league, because with that quarterback, no one in Buffalo is start-able.  :X

 
 I just looked at the bill schedule… For those of you doing the weekly elimination leagues, what week do you have the balls to take the bills?

I think you may regret this one. If Kelvin would have not dropped an easy TD pass this whole thread would sound different. He is going to be fed targets and lots of garbage time. That is a good combination.

 That was my thought process when I picked him with the second last pick of my draft. Saying that awful quarterback play I want no part of that buffalo offense. If things change, I can always pick him up later. I don’t think he will be in high demand regardless.

Kelvin Benjamin caught 1-of-6 targets for 34 yards in the Bills' Week 4 loss to the Packers.

As inefficient as you've come to expect. Benjamin was also checked for a concussion but thankfully cleared the protocol. On pace for just 368 yards in the Bills' dysfunctional offense, Benjamin is miles from fantasy relevance.

To further clarify, It was about an hour and half before the game. Benjamin remained on the field afterwards while the other WR's ran routes for Allen. I was not the only reporter to hear the conversation.

Without the benefit of context here, players have their own pre-game routines, receivers included, but a "No" response by Kelvin Benjamin never would have been acceptable to, say, Peyton Manning. There should come a time when a QB isn't asking but demanding.

 
According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Cowboys are "monitoring" Kelvin Benjamin ahead of next week's trade deadline.

The Cowboys have also checked in on DeVante Parker and continue to do their "due diligence" on Amari Cooper. Dallas is in desperate need of receiving weapons and it's likely the Cowboys address that issue by adding a pass-catcher at the trade deadline. Hopefully the Cowboys can do a bit better than Benjamin, who has been a non-factor in Buffalo this year. Meanwhile Parker can't even get on the field in Miami.

Kelvin Benjamin - WR -  Bills

Kelvin Benjamin caught 2-of-7 targets for 45 yards in the Week 8 loss to the Patriots.

A supposed jump-ball specialist, Benjamin routinely loses contested catch situations. His one big play was a 40-yarder down the left side. Benjamin would be best-suited for a change of scenery outside of Buffalo.

Interesting, Benjamin is gone and Cam is at 66% completion percentage and playing like his MVP year which Benjamin missed.

 
Wow this guy was just dropped in dynasty. Plan on putting in a bid but can't help but feel he'll just be a roster clogger. I mercifully have not seen many Bills games this year,  is he just wasting space out there? Does he really look that bad? I remember him in Carolina looking like he'd be the next big bodied stud WR but is that just a mirage at this point?

Yes to all of the above. He runs lazy bad routes. His hands are terrible. He's slow and can't get open. And the one thing he is supposed to be good at, using his body and winning balls, he doesn't do well because he doesn't come back to the ball, doesn't fight for the ball, and can't jump very high.

I think it's a combo of injuries sapping any athleticism he previously had and laziness/disinterest doing the rest.

I will be dropping him at the end of the season too. He’s just not lived up to expectations.

Bills waived WR Kelvin Benjamin.

It was an overdue move. A complete liability on the field, Benjamin notoriously refused to work on routes with rookie QB Josh Allen before a game earlier this season. Sunday, Benjamin at one point appeared surprised to be targeted. As the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero pointed out, it was an unusual reaction for, you know, a wide receiver. A one-dimensional player who has not been good at his dimension for some time, Benjamin scored two touchdowns in 18 games as a Bill. Going on 28, his phone is not going to be ringing off the hook.
