Ken Griffey Jr To Announce Retirement? (1 Viewer)

Player of the 90's

Too bad it's the freakin 'teens :excited:

Godspeed, Griff. The first name that will historically be dropped in the argument, Maybe they weren't ALL juicing??

His career went downhill once he got traded to the Reds. Too bad he got hurt. He was on his way to being a top 5-10 player of all time. He will still be in the HoF though.

Certainly not a stretch, but Griffey pulled off some awesome in the field too, and had a little more postseason play. Not worth arguing about though, Hurt was a machine

I'm going to pretend like his career ended in Seattle the first time around. He was worth the price of admission back in the day. Griff had the sweetest stroke and was a human highlight reel in CF. I'll have to thank my Dad tomorrow for taking me up to Cleveland a few times when the Mariners came in town.

Yea, he was amazing in his first tour in Seattle. So-so in Cincy when healthy and in his half a season for Chicago (people forget about that short stint) and then shoot the horse bad these past two years in Seattle.

First-ballot HOF'er though.

I wish he would have been the 1st the surpass Maris's record (i.e. 1994 strike shortened season)

Lost in the madness of the Galarraga stuff, one of my favorite players ever (yes even as a Yankee fan) retires. What a great bunch of memories.

I'll never forget when he shut up 57,000 of us and our ill-conceived "####-YOU-JUN-IOR" chants back in '95. Much as it hurt when he killed us, the guy was just too good to hate him.

He deserved a better send off than this, but it's probably more a product of him hanging on too long. What a limp to the finish.

Great career, and it could have been epic.

 Not to mention that Griffey played Centerfield and it played it damn well. Thomas was a below average defensive first-baseman/DH. This really isn't close.

One of the sweetest swings out there, made one of the greatest plays that I remember when he shattered his wrist? on the running jumping fence grab.

One of my favorites. Would loved to see what would have happened if he stayed healthy.

I'll give Thomas credit for being top-5 in most offensive categories (which surprised me). But even if they were equals offensively, Griffey's defensive skills give him the clear edge overall.
