Kendall Hunter (1 Viewer)

I did a lot of research on him prior to selecting him in my rookie draft at 1.09... seems kinda high for me at that spot as I originally viewed him as a future COP type back until i did my research on him. Couple things that stood out to me with him was his build... very similar to Ray Rice very "squatish" at only 5'7 but guy carries a load at 200lbs. Now throwing the Ray rice label on him is quite easy as its pretty much a copy cat name that i found the majority of people casting on him, as well as Westbrook. The physical appearance seems like a fit however does the talent? After seeing a few preseason games i am quite surprised at his burst through small holes and able to maintain speed at a shift of direction. His 53 yard scamper in game two was an example of fine blocking however he really showed that nifty shifting ability against Houston that showed off his speed while doing so. He clearly looks like a superior RB compared to Dixon this off season... i really didn't think it's even close.

Now here is the couple questions i see myself asking on him that i am still hoping to get an answer with. His pass blocking needs big time improvement. I find myself saying that a lot with many rookie RB's however does anyone believe he will be passable since his height is limited? And how did his stock fall to the 4th round in the NFL? He was projected as a 2/3 on many analysts from online research i did but never really found an answer why he slid to the 4th?

Can anyone throw out a projected line for the season yet at this moment? or should we wait to see what happens with gore contract wise and go fourth from there? I really see a bright future with this kid if he can improve in pass protect/blitz pick up and it looks as if Bloom does as well, any other thoughts on Kendall as a prospect in general?

I like him, but his situation is fluid with Frank Gore's contact situation. I would consult Matt Waldman's Rookie Scouting Portfolio for a very good assessment of what Kendall can do.

Throwing a projection on him is to difficult at this time since it is not a shared situation. Gore has not proven to be a 300 carry back but we really don't know what to expect from the 49ers at this point.

If I were to choose between spending a 1st on Gore or a 10th on Hunter, I would much prefer to nab Hunter for the low cost and high upside.

If he sits behind Gore and along side Dixon, 300-500 total yards may be in the cards. If he lands a full time role for whatever reasons, he could easily put up top tier numbers based on how productive he has been so far.

This year, there's no way he starts unless there's an injury. Of course, when we talk about Gore, there's a pretty good shot that he'll miss a few games here or there. The other concern this year is that it really does seem like it's setting up to be a "transition" year for the niners. The offense has looked terrible, and that might be expected given the lack of personnel change from last year combined with a complete coaching overhaul. Gore is also in the last year of his contract, so the opportunity could be ripe for hunter if Gore doesn't get an extension. The front office is supposedly meeting with Gore this Monday, and that will make a big difference in Hunter's future opportunity. I think he's a great buy for dynasty, and a decent stash for redraft given Gore's injury history.

I haven't found any real reason as to why he feel to the 49ers in the 4th but hey our gift for sure. I nabbed him in a couple of 1st yr. dynasty draft and I have Gorein another but the guy won't get off Hunter for no less than a 2012 first rounder. I still may jump on that. Jst finished a 12 team redraftPPR with RB's getting.4pts per reception. My pick rolled around at 17.07 and I took him.I have Charles,Best,De.Williams and Snelling so it's not like I have to start Hunter.

Don't get me wrong I love Gore being a 9er fan but he is showing signs of wear & tear and injury. If he misses time I say it's going to be Hunter who shines not Dixon. Even if Gore stays relatively healthy I see Hunter spelling him and getting good production. Good enough production that they'll find ways to get him on the field more. Yes and a big YES he needs work on pass protection but I'm tellin' ya the kid's got talent. Some refer to him like Rice, I say a little more like Wstbrook and we all know what kind of a career he had. I am a believer the Hunter will be Gore's successor and 3 yrs. from now there'll be no doubt. Don't have a lot of facts or going into big ramblings why I think so. All I can tell you is I have a very strong hunch about this kid, we've all had them if you'd played any amount of FF, and my gut hunch tells me even with things a mess in San Fran right now Hunter's going to be a bright spot. Yes, bad teams do occassionally have some good stud players. Hunter will be one of them.

Watched him at several games in Stillwater. He had an injury in 2009 (ankle IIRC) that hampered him. He could be stellar in Holgorsen's offense while he was at OSU. Not sure if he could carry the load in the NFL but he is a talented runner - fun to watch in college for sure.
