Kerry Colbert signs with Denver (1 Viewer)

If he couldn't open things up for Steve Smith, what does Denver think he is going to do for Marshall. Brutal signing.

$2.5 mil signing bonus. Likely to start opposite Marshall. Not a bad gig for a guy it looked like was going to have a hard time finding a roster.

I know Stokley works better out of the slot, but I can't see Colbert having more production than him next year.

really? Assuming due to lack of options or something you've heard?
From this Denver Post article. And I don't think Stokley leaves the slot.http://origin.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_8421884

Broncos sign WR Colbert

The Broncos made their first out-of-house free-agent agreement in the form of receiver Keary Colbert.

The Carolina receiver agreed to terms on a three-year contract Saturday. Colbert, 25, had 32 catches last season. His best season was in 2004, his rookie season when he was a second-round pick form USC. He had 47 catches that season.

Colbert will compete with Brandon Stokley for the No. 2 starting job opposite blooming star Brandon Marshall. The Broncos have an opening in wake of the release of Javon Walker on Friday.

I agree with Rad. Stokely should be the guy to have, not Colbert. Marshall owners should be hoping for the Broncos to acquire another receiver.

Yep, there's a big difference between competing with Stokley for WR2 and being expected to start opposite Marshall. I'd take this signing as this... Colbert cashed in, good job by his agent, questionable signing and if he doesn't win the WR2 job then he'll be WR4 at best, cuz Stokley is likely going into the slot and the Broncos aren't done signing/drafting WRs.

yeah this signing did not make much sense to me either. Colbert showed a lot of promise as a rook but never amounted to much after that. He'll be lucky to wind up as a WR3ETA: contract details from Rotoworld

Broncos signed Keary Colbert to a three-year, $7.2 million contract, including a $2.5 million signing bonus.

A surprising move by Denver, and a dream second chance for Colbert to turn his career around. The Broncos loved Colbert coming out of USC, but he's had a crisis of confidence the last few years. Denver will add talent, but Colbert will compete to start. Mar. 1 - 8:51 pm et
