Kevin Carter to Oakland (1 Viewer)

This isn't a huge signing, but he is a good run stopping DL. I know for a fact that he was house hunting in Oakland and had dinner with Art Shell.

Is this shtick? I mean, I am not saying it would not happen... I just am trying to figure out how having dinner with Art Shell figures into him signing? I think he has some left in him to be worthwhile and helpful plus he could provide some veteran leadership to a unit that is pretty young. Just confused on the Art Shell thing.

From Friday...

Just found out that Tampa Bay defensive end Kevin Carter is headed to Hawaii with his wife, Shima, and will decide on Friday which team to play for this season.

Carter is currently debating offers from Tampa Bay and Oakland. There are two other teams interested in Carter if he decides not to play for Tampa Bay or Oakland, but it will likely come down between those teams.

The hardest part about Carter’s decision is choosing between his love for Tampa Bay and guaranteed money from Oakland. Carter was released by Tampa Bay and scheduled to earn $3.8 million in base salary and a team-high $5.8 million cap value in 2008. He was offered a substantially lower contract by Tampa Bay, but apparently loves playing for Jon Gruden, and his family would prefer to stay in Tampa.

However, Oakland is prepared to offer Carter a better contract financially, leaving him torn between the team he loves and the money he believes he is worth.

Carter’s departure would be a big loss for Tampa Bay.

Every young player on Tampa Bay’s defensive line looks up to Carter, and he is highly respected in the Bucs’ locker room. It would be hard to immediately replace his emotional presence and leadership, but Carter will decide his future soon.
