Stay tuned.

I remember the time when people laughed anytime PFT was cited. Now it's become the best internet site for breaking news, hands down.

Solid player, but he's always getting hurt. He needs a LOOONG rest.

Detroit will almost certainly draft a tailback in the first three rounds if this is true.

Wth Florio, you take the good with the bad. I think he's getting to be like some of the other "wired in" columnists in the traditional media where get gets used by certain NFL front office folks to further certain agendas with partial stories and misinformation.

good posting, both of them..........never understood the hate for PFT :lmao: you had to understand what they were, a rumor site, they never have claimed to be anything but that. they broke a lot of stories, and they missed a lot, typical of a rumors site.......seems that they are starting to become more and more legitimate

Unlike ESPN PFT at least list a Rumor as a Rumor, ESPN will say Rumor with a wink, wink. If I had to have one source for NFL news between just those two I would take PFT hands down.

Please come to Chicago if this is true...

I'm thinking Detroit would end up with Stewart at 16... I think Medenhall will be gone by then.

Great news for KJ owners imo. :lmao:
Not sure how anyone could come to any conclusion. If you can't stay on the field, you can't stay on the field. Any other organization, he would of been tossed aside long ago. He's not going to be looked as 'the guy' anywhere but Detroit at this point. The guy hasn't broke 700 yards in 4 years. (3.7ish clip). I don't see him suddenly becoming a 4+ ypc suddenly ages 26-30. (Especially after numerous injuries). Maybe he'll land somewhere nice as a backup RB. It was long ago, but he did show he can be a solid RB for a short period of time (just not a full season). Stating the obvious for fantasy purposes, but being a backup elsewhere < starting anywhere. If anything, it's good news for anyone looking to acquire him for next to nothing if you believe in him.

Way to keep those draft plans close to the vest Matt Millen & Co........... :goodposting:

Does anyone really think it's going to be that easy for the Lions to get Mendenhall at #15 now? This is like exposing a suited Big Slick when you're on the verge of elimination and one step from getting to the final table. ........What morons are running things in DET? Oh, yeah, the same ones who have been screwing up that franchise for a half-decade and yet still gets a yearly pay increase........

But really, are we that surprised at such a gaffe leading up to the draft.....Try trading him for anything now.

I like his chances running for a team that knows how to run block and committed to running the ball. Injuries you cant control much, They happen.

They've added another snippet with a seperate source. Rumor's growing legs...

JONES OUT IN MOTOWNPosted by Mike Florio on March 13, 2008, 4:02 p.m. We’ve gotten confirmation from another source that running back Kevin Jones has been informed by the Detroit Lions that he will be released. It’s not known whether the move has been made official.Jones was a first-round pick of the Lions in 2004. A serious foot injury suffered during the 2006 season marred much of the 2007 campaign for him, and we’re told that there was concern that he might not be healthy for the start of the 2007 regular season. The only other running backs currently on the roster are Brian Calhoun, Aveion Cason, and Tatum Bell.

Agreed. I don't see how his #'s could be any worse per carry. His chances though are going to be a heck of lot harder to find. (i.e. he was looked as 'the RB future' of the Lions....he'll just be viewed as a replacement level (backup) RB elsewhere).

Watching him not get carries in the 2nd quarter when detroit got down by 3 points because they were in panic mode was difficult to watch. KJ is young and a very good RB when healthy. Im glad he is getting a fresh start somewhere else. He wont be out of work long. I feel bad for the rookie that they draft to replace him, what a waste.

I think he would look real good in an Eagles uniform. Plus it would be a home coming fo him.

Pretty stunned by this move. Hope he gets a shot on another team. Guy runs hard behind lame O-lines.

Why? He was only due to make $2.37 million. That's not so much for a backup RB.

What's the big incentive to cut him?

The problem with your logic is that you're assuming they want Mendenhall. That might not be the case. For all we know they're targeting Kevin Smith or Matt Forte in round two. You can't look at this move and call them morons because it seemingly decreases their chances at a player they might not even like.

Coming into the league i had high hopes for Jones, but once in the NFL he had to completely change his playing style and was never that good. He had one decent year in 04' and has been a huge dissappointment since then and is a complete gimp.

For those that didn't see him in college he was much more of a finesse runner and his style was electric, once in the NFL he became more of a power back and never really excelled in that role.

No one is going to hand him a starting job, the best he can hope for is to go somewhere and be allowed to compete.

Kevin Jones dynasty value just went down the drain.

Maybe just the Homer in me, but I really think He would be a nice fit in Chicago.

You must've missed last years game against dallas. That guy ran the ball angry and down dallas's throat all game. As far as his fantasy value that remains to be seen, I dont think he will be out of work long.

that is a spot where he could be given a chance to compete, but i would be shocked if any team handed him the starting job.The past 3 years he's averaged under 4 YPC, he really isn't anything more than an average NFL RB (i do think he was a dynamite college RB though), and those kind of guys aren't given the keys to a starting gig.

Hmmm...something smells in ol Detriot. First Roy Williams talks about wanting out. Things kind of settle down and then BAM KJ is released. Of course, there is still talk that Roy Williams can be had...the PR move...if it's an overwhelming offer. :deadhorse:

All the top players are leaving DET one way or another can't be a good sign. No matter how you cut and slice it IMO.
