KJ already took and passed a physical in Pittsburgh, so it is not agent leak. LinkChicago Trib reports KJ is at Halas Hall today for a physical and if he passes, he'll get a contract. If not, he goes to Pit. I still think Pit is agent leak for leverage. Det and TB still seem like more likely destinations over Pit.
If he signs with the Bears, it s/b an open competition. Turner seems pretty high (so far) on Forte as an every-down back, so as opposed to one being a third-down back, I could see it more with the RB2 getting sets of series each game, like Jones and Benson in 2006. Probably 66/33 type of split...unless Jones' health or Forte's progression change things.

It appears the Detroit Lions are going to see Kevin Jones again.
Jones, the former Lions running back, flew to Chicago last night and is taking a physical today. According to a source close to the situation, he's leaning very strongly toward signing with the Bears and a deal could be done as early as today.
Jones turned down more money and a longer term deal from at least one team, preferring to sign a one-year contract. While the Bucs and Steelers were interested in signing Jones, he believes the Bears give him the best opportunity to get some playing time. Jones is expected to sign for the league minimum (or close to it) and then become an unrestricted free agent in 2009.
The Lions, saying it was a health and contract issue, released Jones earlier in the off-season. He had one year left on his deal worth $2.4 million and suffered a knee injury late last season. Jones, though, has had a speedy recovery and has already passed a physical with the Steelers.
While the Lions did attend Jones' workout in late June, they never made an effort to re-sign him. Detroit, which already has Brian Calhoun on the roster, re-signed former players Tatum Bell and Artose Pinner and also drafted Kevin Smith in the third round.
If Jones signs with Chicago, he'll face the Lions twice this season -- the first meeting will be in Detroit on Oct. 5.
I know KJ has been working out a bit but I'm suprised he is actually able to pass a physical for any team this early?KJ already took and passed a physical in Pittsburgh, so it is not agent leak. Well, if KJ signs with the bears, this will be the first FA move in two years that has made any sense at all. Even for a team as unconcerned with winning as the Bears, going into the season with Forte-AP-Wolfe is as close to team suicide as it gets, especially since reupping with Worse and Worser at QB. I still fully expect Forte to start the season and hopefully finish the season as the starter. KJ will get somewhere between 100-150 carries this season which should be enough to rehab his value with the league and get an offer next offseason, so a win-win IMO. We need more depth, and he needs another shot. PITT is too crowded and talented. With the Bears he will get a chance to show off what he can do and have a better shot at starting than probably anywhere else (except, ironically, Detroit).
Just reported on Sirius NFL radio that he signed with the Bears.
Bears sign Jones
Jul 15, 12:55 PM The NFL Network reports that running back Kevin Jones has agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears on a one-year deal that he will sign this afternoon.
Fantasy Spin: Jones will compete with Matt Forte to start, with Forte the favorite. Expect Jones to steal carries if he's healthy even as a backup. Meanwhile Garrett Wolfe and Adrian Peterson are now virtually worthless for fantasy owners.
That is going to be the key......will Jones be Healthy....I agree if he is healthy he will beat out Forte. If healthy, you have to thnk Jones will beat out Forte. At least I think so.
